وَنَـَٔا wanaā
and distances himself V
بِجَانِبِهِۦ bijānibihi

وَإِذَا wa-idhā
but when Noun
مَسَّهُ massahu
touches him V
ٱلشَّرُّ l-sharu

فَذُو fadhū
then (he is) full Noun
دُعَآءٍ duʿāin
(of) supplication Noun
عَرِيضٍ ʿarīḍin
lengthy Noun

Whenever We are gracious to man, he goes away haughtily, but, as soon as evil touches him, he turns to prolonged prayer

وَإِذَاۤ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنِ أَعۡرَضَ وَنَءَا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَاۤءٍ عَرِیضࣲ ۝٥١

wa-idhā anʿamnā ʿalā l-insāni aʿraḍa wanaā bijānibihi wa-idhā massahu l-sharu fadhū duʿāin ʿarīḍi
