The Believers — Bilal Muhammad 2018 Translation

ثُمَّ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلنُّطۡفَةَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡعَلَقَةَ مُضۡغَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمُضۡغَةَ عِظَـٰمࣰا فَكَسَوۡنَا ٱلۡعِظَـٰمَ لَحۡمࣰا ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَـٰهُ خَلۡقًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ ۝١٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then We made the zygote into an embryo, then of that embryo We made a fetus, then we made the fetus into bones and clothed the bones with flesh, then we developed out of it another creature. So blessed is God, the best of creators

thumma khalaqnā l-nuṭ'fata ʿalaqatan fakhalaqnā l-ʿalaqata muḍ'ghatan fakhalaqnā l-muḍ'ghata ʿiẓāman fakasawnā l-ʿiẓāma laḥman thumma anshanāhu khalqan ākhara fatabāraka l-lahu aḥsanu l-khāliqīn

23:15

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعۡدَ ذَ ٰلِكَ لَمَیِّتُونَ ۝١٥

After that, you will eventually die

thumma innakum baʿda dhālika lamayyitūn

23:16

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ تُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٦

Then on the Day of Accountability, you will be raised up

thumma innakum yawma l-qiyāmati tub'ʿathūn

23:17

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعَ طَرَاۤىِٕقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلۡخَلۡقِ غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٧

And We have made above you seven paths, and We are never unmindful of Our creation

walaqad khalaqnā fawqakum sabʿa ṭarāiqa wamā kunnā ʿani l-khalqi ghāfilīn

23:18

وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءَۢ بِقَدَرࣲ فَأَسۡكَنَّـٰهُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابِۭ بِهِۦ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝١٨

And We send down water from the sky by a certain measure, and We cause it to soak in the earth, and We certainly are able to make it disappear

wa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan biqadarin fa-askannāhu fī l-arḍi wa-innā ʿalā dhahābin bihi laqādirūn

23:19

فَأَنشَأۡنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣲ لَّكُمۡ فِیهَا فَوَ ٰكِهُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝١٩

With it We grow for you gardens of date palms and vines. In them you have abundant fruit, and from them you eat and enjoy

fa-anshanā lakum bihi jannātin min nakhīlin wa-aʿnābin lakum fīhā fawākihu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

23:20

وَشَجَرَةࣰ تَخۡرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَیۡنَاۤءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهۡنِ وَصِبۡغࣲ لِّلۡءَاكِلِینَ ۝٢٠

Also is a tree springing out of Mount Sinai which produces oil and relish for those who use it for food

washajaratan takhruju min ṭūri saynāa tanbutu bil-duh'ni waṣib'ghin lil'ākilīn

23:21

وَإِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ لَعِبۡرَةࣰۖ نُّسۡقِیكُم مِّمَّا فِی بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٢١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And in cattle too, you have an instructive similitude. From within their bodies We produce milk for you to drink. There are also in them numerous other benefits for you, and of their meat you eat

wa-inna lakum fī l-anʿāmi laʿib'ratan nus'qīkum mimmā fī buṭūnihā walakum fīhā manāfiʿu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

23:22

وَعَلَیۡهَا وَعَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ تُحۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٢

And on them as well as on ships you are carried

waʿalayhā waʿalā l-ful'ki tuḥ'malūn

23:23

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٢٣

Further, We sent a long line of prophets to instruct you. We sent Noah to his people. He said, “O my people, worship God, you have no other god but Him. Will you not fear Him?

walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

23:24

فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُرِیدُ أَن یَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ مَّا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِیۤ ءَابَاۤىِٕنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٤

The leaders of the unbelievers among his people said, “He is no more than a human like you. His wish is to assert his will over you. If God had wished to send messengers, He could have sent down angels, never did we hear of such a thing as he says, from even among our earliest ancestors

faqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yurīdu an yatafaḍḍala ʿalaykum walaw shāa l-lahu la-anzala malāikatan mā samiʿ'nā bihādhā fī ābāinā l-awalīn

23:25

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلُۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةࣱ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٢٥

“He is but a man possessed. Wait and have patience with him for a time.

in huwa illā rajulun bihi jinnatun fatarabbaṣū bihi ḥattā ḥīni

23:26

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٢٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Noah said, “O my Lord, help me, for they accuse me of lies.

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

23:27

فَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ أَنِ ٱصۡنَعِ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ بِأَعۡیُنِنَا وَوَحۡیِنَا فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَمۡرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ فَٱسۡلُكۡ فِیهَا مِن كُلࣲّ زَوۡجَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ وَأَهۡلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبۡنِی فِی ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوۤا۟ إِنَّهُم مُّغۡرَقُونَ ۝٢٧

So We inspired him with this message, “Construct the Ark within Our sight and under Our guidance. Then when Our command comes, and the fountains of the earth gush forth, take on-board pairs of every type, male and female, and your family, except those of them against whom the word has already gone forward, and do not address Me in favor of the wrongdoers, for they will be drowned

fa-awḥaynā ilayhi ani iṣ'naʿi l-ful'ka bi-aʿyuninā wawaḥyinā fa-idhā jāa amrunā wafāra l-tanūru fa-us'luk fīhā min kullin zawjayni ith'nayni wa-ahlaka illā man sabaqa ʿalayhi l-qawlu min'hum walā tukhāṭib'nī fī alladhīna ẓalamū innahum mugh'raqūn

23:28

فَإِذَا ٱسۡتَوَیۡتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ فَقُلِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And when you have embarked on the Ark, you and those with you say, “Praise God, He Who has saved us from the people who do wrong.

fa-idhā is'tawayta anta waman maʿaka ʿalā l-ful'ki faquli l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī najjānā mina l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:29

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلۡنِی مُنزَلࣰا مُّبَارَكࣰا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡمُنزِلِینَ ۝٢٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And say, “O my Lord, enable me to disembark with your blessing, for You are the best to enable us to disembark.

waqul rabbi anzil'nī munzalan mubārakan wa-anta khayru l-munzilīn

23:30

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبۡتَلِینَ ۝٣٠

Indeed in this are signs, and with this do We test people

inna fī dhālika laāyātin wa-in kunnā lamub'talīn

23:31

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٣١

Then We produced after them another generation

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qarnan ākharīn

23:32

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا فِیهِمۡ رَسُولࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٣٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We sent to them a messenger from among themselves saying, “Worship God, you have no other god but Him. Will you not fear Him?

fa-arsalnā fīhim rasūlan min'hum ani uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

23:33

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَاۤءِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَتۡرَفۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یَأۡكُلُ مِمَّا تَأۡكُلُونَ مِنۡهُ وَیَشۡرَبُ مِمَّا تَشۡرَبُونَ ۝٣٣

And the leaders of his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting in the hereafter, and he on whom We had bestowed the good things in the life of the present said, “He is no more than human like you. He eats of what you eat, and drinks of what you drink

waqāla l-mala-u min qawmihi alladhīna kafarū wakadhabū biliqāi l-ākhirati wa-atrafnāhum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yakulu mimmā takulūna min'hu wayashrabu mimmā tashrabūn

23:34

وَلَىِٕنۡ أَطَعۡتُم بَشَرࣰا مِّثۡلَكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٣٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“If you follow a human being like yourselves behold, it is certain you will be lost

wala-in aṭaʿtum basharan mith'lakum innakum idhan lakhāsirūn

23:35

أَیَعِدُكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ إِذَا مِتُّمۡ وَكُنتُمۡ تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخۡرَجُونَ ۝٣٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Does he promise that when you die and become dust and bones, you will be brought out

ayaʿidukum annakum idhā mittum wakuntum turāban waʿiẓāman annakum mukh'rajūn

23:36

۞ هَیۡهَاتَ هَیۡهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ ۝٣٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Far, very far is that which you are promised

hayhāta hayhāta limā tūʿadūn

23:37

إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا حَیَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡیَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡیَا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَبۡعُوثِینَ ۝٣٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“There is nothing but our life in the present. We die and we live, but we will never be raised up again

in hiya illā ḥayātunā l-dun'yā namūtu wanaḥyā wamā naḥnu bimabʿūthīn

23:38

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا وَمَا نَحۡنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٣٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“He is but one who invents a lie against God, but we are not ones to believe in him.

in huwa illā rajulun if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban wamā naḥnu lahu bimu'minīn

23:39

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٣٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He said, “Lord help me, for they accuse me of lying.

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

23:40

قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِیلࣲ لَّیُصۡبِحُنَّ نَـٰدِمِینَ ۝٤٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

God said, “In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry.

qāla ʿammā qalīlin layuṣ'biḥunna nādimīn

23:41

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ غُثَاۤءࣰۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then the blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as remains of dead leaves. So away with the people who do wrong

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu bil-ḥaqi fajaʿalnāhum ghuthāan fabuʿ'dan lil'qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:42

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٤٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then We produced after them other generations

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qurūnan ākharīn

23:43

مَا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ ۝٤٣

No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay it

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūn

23:44

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتۡرَاۖ كُلَّ مَا جَاۤءَ أُمَّةࣰ رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُۖ فَأَتۡبَعۡنَا بَعۡضَهُم بَعۡضࣰا وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَحَادِیثَۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّقَوۡمࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٤٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then We sent our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a people their messenger they accused him of falsehood. So We made them follow each other in punishment. We made them as a tale that is told. So away with a people who will not believe

thumma arsalnā rusulanā tatrā kulla mā jāa ummatan rasūluhā kadhabūhu fa-atbaʿnā baʿḍahum baʿḍan wajaʿalnāhum aḥādītha fabuʿ'dan liqawmin lā yu'minūn

23:45

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٤٥

Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and with clear authority

thumma arsalnā mūsā wa-akhāhu hārūna biāyātinā wasul'ṭānin mubīni

23:46

إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمًا عَالِینَ ۝٤٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And to Pharaoh and his nomarchs. But they behaved arrogantly. They were a people conceited

ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi fa-is'takbarū wakānū qawman ʿālīn

23:47

فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لِبَشَرَیۡنِ مِثۡلِنَا وَقَوۡمُهُمَا لَنَا عَـٰبِدُونَ ۝٤٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They said, “Shall we believe in two people like ourselves while their people are subject to us?

faqālū anu'minu libasharayni mith'linā waqawmuhumā lanā ʿābidūn

23:48

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡلَكِینَ ۝٤٨

So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those that were caused to perish

fakadhabūhumā fakānū mina l-muh'lakīn

23:49

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَهۡتَدُونَ ۝٤٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba laʿallahum yahtadūn

23:50

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱبۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥۤ ءَایَةࣰ وَءَاوَیۡنَـٰهُمَاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبۡوَةࣲ ذَاتِ قَرَارࣲ وَمَعِینࣲ ۝٥٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a sign. We gave them both shelter on a high ground of tranquility, and springs

wajaʿalnā ib'na maryama wa-ummahu āyatan waāwaynāhumā ilā rabwatin dhāti qarārin wamaʿīni

23:51

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ وَٱعۡمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّی بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٥١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

O you messengers, enjoy things good and refined, and work righteousness, for I am well acquainted with all that you do

yāayyuhā l-rusulu kulū mina l-ṭayibāti wa-iʿ'malū ṣāliḥan innī bimā taʿmalūna ʿalīmu

23:52

وَإِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦۤ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱتَّقُونِ ۝٥٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And indeed this community of yours is a single community, and I am your Lord. Therefore fear Me and no other

wa-inna hādhihi ummatukum ummatan wāḥidatan wa-anā rabbukum fa-ittaqūn

23:53

فَتَقَطَّعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَهُم بَیۡنَهُمۡ زُبُرࣰاۖ كُلُّ حِزۡبِۭ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٥٣

But the people cut off the events of unity between them into sects. Each group rejoices in that which is with it

fataqaṭṭaʿū amrahum baynahum zuburan kullu ḥiz'bin bimā ladayhim fariḥūn

23:54

فَذَرۡهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَتِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینٍ ۝٥٤

But leave them in their confused ignorance for now

fadharhum fī ghamratihim ḥattā ḥīni

23:55

أَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالࣲ وَبَنِینَ ۝٥٥

Do they think that because We have granted them abundance of wealth and sons

ayaḥsabūna annamā numidduhum bihi min mālin wabanīn

23:56

نُسَارِعُ لَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِۚ بَل لَّا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٥٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

That We would funnel them all the good. No, they do not understand

nusāriʿu lahum fī l-khayrāti bal lā yashʿurūn

23:57

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ هُم مِّنۡ خَشۡیَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ ۝٥٧

Indeed those who live in awe for fear of their Lord

inna alladhīna hum min khashyati rabbihim mush'fiqūn

23:58

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٨

Those who believe in the signs of their Lord

wa-alladhīna hum biāyāti rabbihim yu'minūn

23:59

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ لَا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٥٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Those who do not join in worship, partners with their Lord

wa-alladhīna hum birabbihim lā yush'rikūn

23:60

وَٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡتُونَ مَاۤ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمۡ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ رَ ٰجِعُونَ ۝٦٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And those who give their charity with their hearts full of awe, because they will return to their Lord

wa-alladhīna yu'tūna mā ātaw waqulūbuhum wajilatun annahum ilā rabbihim rājiʿūn

23:61

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِ وَهُمۡ لَهَا سَـٰبِقُونَ ۝٦١

It is these who hasten in every good work, and these are foremost in them

ulāika yusāriʿūna fī l-khayrāti wahum lahā sābiqūn

23:62

وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۚ وَلَدَیۡنَا كِتَـٰبࣱ یَنطِقُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٢

On no soul do We place a burden greater than she can bear. Before Us is a record that clearly shows the truth. They will never be wronged

walā nukallifu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā waladaynā kitābun yanṭiqu bil-ḥaqi wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

23:63

بَلۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلࣱ مِّن دُونِ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُمۡ لَهَا عَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٦٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But their hearts are in confused ignorance of this, and there are besides that, deeds of theirs that they will continue to do

bal qulūbuhum fī ghamratin min hādhā walahum aʿmālun min dūni dhālika hum lahā ʿāmilūn

23:64

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَخَذۡنَا مُتۡرَفِیهِم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمۡ یَجۡءَرُونَ ۝٦٤

Until We seize them in punishment. Those of them that received the good things of the present behold, they will cry in supplication

ḥattā idhā akhadhnā mut'rafīhim bil-ʿadhābi idhā hum yajarūn

23:65

لَا تَجۡءَرُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ ۝٦٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

It will be said, “Cry not in supplication this day, for you will certainly not be helped by Us

lā tajarū l-yawma innakum minnā lā tunṣarūn

23:66

قَدۡ كَانَتۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡقَـٰبِكُمۡ تَنكِصُونَ ۝٦٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“My signs used to be rehearsed to you, but you used to turn back on your heels

qad kānat āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum ʿalā aʿqābikum tankiṣūn

23:67

مُسۡتَكۡبِرِینَ بِهِۦ سَـٰمِرࣰا تَهۡجُرُونَ ۝٦٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“In arrogance. Speaking wrongfully about it by night.

mus'takbirīna bihi sāmiran tahjurūn

23:68

أَفَلَمۡ یَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ أَمۡ جَاۤءَهُم مَّا لَمۡ یَأۡتِ ءَابَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٦٨

Do they not ponder over the Word, or has anything new come to them that did not come to their ancestors

afalam yaddabbarū l-qawla am jāahum mā lam yati ābāahumu l-awalīn

23:69

أَمۡ لَمۡ یَعۡرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ ۝٦٩

Or do they not recognize their messenger, so they reject him

am lam yaʿrifū rasūlahum fahum lahu munkirūn

23:70

أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةُۢۚ بَلۡ جَاۤءَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لِلۡحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٧٠

Or do they say, “He is possessed?” No, he has brought them the truth, but most of them hate the truth

am yaqūlūna bihi jinnatun bal jāahum bil-ḥaqi wa-aktharuhum lil'ḥaqqi kārihūn

23:71

وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهِنَّۚ بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِذِكۡرِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٧١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

If the truth had been in accord with their desires, truly the heavens and the earth, and all beings therein would have been in chaos. No, We have sent them advice, but they turn away from the advice

walawi ittabaʿa l-ḥaqu ahwāahum lafasadati l-samāwātu wal-arḍu waman fīhinna bal ataynāhum bidhik'rihim fahum ʿan dhik'rihim muʿ'riḍūn

23:72

أَمۡ تَسۡءَلُهُمۡ خَرۡجࣰا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَیۡرࣱۖ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٧٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Or is it that you ask them for some reward? But the reward of your Lord is best. He is the best of those who give sustenance

am tasaluhum kharjan fakharāju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru l-rāziqīn

23:73

وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٧٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But indeed you call them to the straight way

wa-innaka latadʿūhum ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

23:74

وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطِ لَنَـٰكِبُونَ ۝٧٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And indeed those who do not believe in the hereafter are deviating from that way

wa-inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati ʿani l-ṣirāṭi lanākibūn

23:75

۞ وَلَوۡ رَحِمۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرࣲّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝٧٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

If We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction back and forth

walaw raḥim'nāhum wakashafnā mā bihim min ḍurrin lalajjū fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

23:76

وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسۡتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَمَا یَتَضَرَّعُونَ ۝٧٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

We inflicted punishment on them, but they did not humble themselves to their Lord, nor do they submissively supplicate to Him

walaqad akhadhnāhum bil-ʿadhābi famā is'takānū lirabbihim wamā yataḍarraʿūn

23:77

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَابࣰا ذَا عَذَابࣲ شَدِیدٍ إِذَا هُمۡ فِیهِ مُبۡلِسُونَ ۝٧٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Until We open on them a gate leading to a severe punishment. Then they will be plunged in despair

ḥattā idhā fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban dhā ʿadhābin shadīdin idhā hum fīhi mub'lisūn

23:78

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

It is He Who has created for you the faculties of hearing, sight, feeling, and understanding. Little thanks is it you give

wahuwa alladhī ansha-a lakumu l-samʿa wal-abṣāra wal-afidata qalīlan mā tashkurūn

23:79

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی ذَرَأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٧٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And He has multiplied you through the earth, and to Him will you be gathered back

wahuwa alladhī dhara-akum fī l-arḍi wa-ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn

23:80

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُ وَلَهُ ٱخۡتِلَـٰفُ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٨٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

It is He Who gives life and death, and to Him is due the alternation of night and day. Will you not then understand

wahuwa alladhī yuḥ'yī wayumītu walahu ikh'tilāfu al-layli wal-nahāri afalā taʿqilūn

23:81

بَلۡ قَالُوا۟ مِثۡلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝٨١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Instead, they say things similar to what the people in the past said

bal qālū mith'la mā qāla l-awalūn

23:82

قَالُوۤا۟ أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝٨٢

They say, “What, when we die and become dust and bones, could we really be raised up again

qālū a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn

23:83

لَقَدۡ وُعِدۡنَا نَحۡنُ وَءَابَاۤؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبۡلُ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٨٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Such things have been promised to us and to our ancestors before. They are nothing but tales of the ancient.

laqad wuʿid'nā naḥnu waābāunā hādhā min qablu in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awalīn

23:84

قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Say, “To whom belongs the earth and all beings therein? Speak, if you know.

qul limani l-arḍu waman fīhā in kuntum taʿlamūn

23:85

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٨٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will say, “To God.” Say, “Then will you not remember?

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tadhakkarūn

23:86

قُلۡ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ ٱلسَّبۡعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٨٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Say, “Who is the Lord of the seven heavens, and the Lord of the throne of glory supreme?

qul man rabbu l-samāwāti l-sabʿi warabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm

23:87

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٨٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will say, “They belong to God.” Say, “Will you not then be filled with awe?

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tattaqūn

23:88

قُلۡ مَنۢ بِیَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُوَ یُجِیرُ وَلَا یُجَارُ عَلَیۡهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Say, “Who is it in whose hands is the governance of all things, who protects all, but is not protected by any? Speak, if you know.

qul man biyadihi malakūtu kulli shayin wahuwa yujīru walā yujāru ʿalayhi in kuntum taʿlamūn

23:89

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسۡحَرُونَ ۝٨٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will say, “It belongs to God.” Say, “Then how are you deluded?

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul fa-annā tus'ḥarūn

23:90

بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝٩٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

We have sent them the truth, but they insist on practicing falsehood

bal ataynāhum bil-ḥaqi wa-innahum lakādhibūn

23:91

مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدࣲ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنۡ إِلَـٰهٍۚ إِذࣰا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَـٰهِۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

No son did God have, nor is there any god joined with Him. If there were many gods, behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded over others. Glory be to God. He is free from the sort of things they attribute to Him

mā ittakhadha l-lahu min waladin wamā kāna maʿahu min ilāhin idhan ladhahaba kullu ilāhin bimā khalaqa walaʿalā baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yaṣifūn

23:92

عَـٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٩٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He knows what is hidden and what is open. Exalted is He above the partners they attribute to Him

qul rabbi immā turiyannī mā yūʿadūn

23:93

قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِیَنِّی مَا یُوعَدُونَ ۝٩٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Say, “O my Lord, show me in my lifetime, that which they are warned against

Qul rabbi imma turiyannee ma yooAAadoona

23:94

رَبِّ فَلَا تَجۡعَلۡنِی فِی ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٩٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“But, O my Lord do not put me among the people who do wrong.

rabbi falā tajʿalnī fī l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:95

وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّرِیَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمۡ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝٩٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We are certainly able to show you that which they are warned against

wa-innā ʿalā an nuriyaka mā naʿiduhum laqādirūn

23:96

ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلسَّیِّئَةَۚ نَحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Repel evil with that which is best. We are well acquainted with the things they say

id'faʿ bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu l-sayi-ata naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaṣifūn

23:97

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنۡ هَمَزَ ٰتِ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ ۝٩٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And say, “O my Lord, I seek refuge with You from the suggestions of the devils

waqul rabbi aʿūdhu bika min hamazāti l-shayāṭīn

23:98

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن یَحۡضُرُونِ ۝٩٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“And I seek refuge with You, O my Lord, lest they should come near me.

wa-aʿūdhu bika rabbi an yaḥḍurūn

23:99

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرۡجِعُونِ ۝٩٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will be in falsehood, but when death comes to one of them he says, “O my Lord, send me back to life

ḥattā idhā jāa aḥadahumu l-mawtu qāla rabbi ir'jiʿūn

23:100

لَعَلِّیۤ أَعۡمَلُ صَـٰلِحࣰا فِیمَا تَرَكۡتُۚ كَلَّاۤۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَاۤىِٕلُهَاۖ وَمِن وَرَاۤىِٕهِم بَرۡزَخٌ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٠٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“In order that I may do right by the things I neglected.” By no means, it is only words he says. Before them is a partition until the day they are raised up

laʿallī aʿmalu ṣāliḥan fīmā taraktu kallā innahā kalimatun huwa qāiluhā wamin warāihim barzakhun ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

23:101

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَلَاۤ أَنسَابَ بَیۡنَهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ وَلَا یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝١٠١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then when the trumpet is blown, there will be no more relationships between them that day, nor will they ask about each other

fa-idhā nufikha fī l-ṣūri falā ansāba baynahum yawma-idhin walā yatasāalūn

23:102

فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٠٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then those whose balance of good deeds is heavy, they will attain salvation

faman thaqulat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

23:103

وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فِی جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١٠٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But those whose balance is light, they will have lost their souls, in hell will they live

waman khaffat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fī jahannama khālidūn

23:104

تَلۡفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمۡ فِیهَا كَـٰلِحُونَ ۝١٠٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

The fire will burn their faces, and they will grin therein, with their lips displaced

talfaḥu wujūhahumu l-nāru wahum fīhā kāliḥūn

23:105

أَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٠٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Were not My signs rehearsed to you, and did you not treat them as false?

alam takun āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum bihā tukadhibūn

23:106

قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتۡ عَلَیۡنَا شِقۡوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوۡمࣰا ضَاۤلِّینَ ۝١٠٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will say, “Our Lord, our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray

qālū rabbanā ghalabat ʿalaynā shiq'watunā wakunnā qawman ḍāllīn

23:107

رَبَّنَاۤ أَخۡرِجۡنَا مِنۡهَا فَإِنۡ عُدۡنَا فَإِنَّا ظَـٰلِمُونَ ۝١٠٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Our Lord, bring us out of this. If ever we return to evil, then will we be wrongdoers indeed.

rabbanā akhrij'nā min'hā fa-in ʿud'nā fa-innā ẓālimūn

23:108

قَالَ ٱخۡسَءُوا۟ فِیهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ ۝١٠٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He will say, “Remain in it disgraced, and speak not to Me

qāla ikh'saū fīhā walā tukallimūn

23:109

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡ عِبَادِی یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَاۤ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١٠٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Some of My servants used to pray ‘Our Lord, we believe, forgive us and have mercy upon us, for You are the best of those who show mercy.

innahu kāna farīqun min ʿibādī yaqūlūna rabbanā āmannā fa-igh'fir lanā wa-ir'ḥamnā wa-anta khayru l-rāḥimīn

23:110

فَٱتَّخَذۡتُمُوهُمۡ سِخۡرِیًّا حَتَّىٰۤ أَنسَوۡكُمۡ ذِكۡرِی وَكُنتُم مِّنۡهُمۡ تَضۡحَكُونَ ۝١١٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“But you treated them with ridicule, so much so, that your ridicule of them made you forget to remember Me, all because you were laughing at them

fa-ittakhadhtumūhum sikh'riyyan ḥattā ansawkum dhik'rī wakuntum min'hum taḍḥakūn

23:111

إِنِّی جَزَیۡتُهُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡفَاۤىِٕزُونَ ۝١١١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“I have rewarded them this day for their patience and constancy. They are indeed the ones who have achieved bliss.

innī jazaytuhumu l-yawma bimā ṣabarū annahum humu l-fāizūn

23:112

قَـٰلَ كَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ عَدَدَ سِنِینَ ۝١١٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He will say, “How long did you stay on earth? Has it been years?

qāla kam labith'tum fī l-arḍi ʿadada sinīn

23:113

قَالُوا۟ لَبِثۡنَا یَوۡمًا أَوۡ بَعۡضَ یَوۡمࣲ فَسۡءَلِ ٱلۡعَاۤدِّینَ ۝١١٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will say, “We stayed a day or part of a day, ask those who keep account.

qālū labith'nā yawman aw baʿḍa yawmin fasali l-ʿādīn

23:114

قَـٰلَ إِن لَّبِثۡتُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰاۖ لَّوۡ أَنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١١٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He will say, “You stayed not even close to that, if you only knew

qāla in labith'tum illā qalīlan law annakum kuntum taʿlamūn

23:115

أَفَحَسِبۡتُمۡ أَنَّمَا خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ عَبَثࣰا وَأَنَّكُمۡ إِلَیۡنَا لَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝١١٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Did you then think that We had created you without purpose, and that you would not be brought back to Us for account?

afaḥasib'tum annamā khalaqnākum ʿabathan wa-annakum ilaynā lā tur'jaʿūn

23:116

فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡكَرِیمِ ۝١١٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Therefore exalted is God, the King, and the Reality. There is no god but Him, the Lord of the throne of honor

fataʿālā l-lahu l-maliku l-ḥaqu lā ilāha illā huwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-karīm

23:117

وَمَن یَدۡعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرۡهَـٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١١٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Anyone who invokes besides God, any other god, he has no authority for that, and his reckoning will be exclusively with his Lord, and indeed the unbelievers will fail to succeed

waman yadʿu maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara lā bur'hāna lahu bihi fa-innamā ḥisābuhu ʿinda rabbihi innahu lā yuf'liḥu l-kāfirūn

23:118

وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ وَٱرۡحَمۡ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١١٨
