ثُمَّ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلنُّطۡفَةَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡعَلَقَةَ مُضۡغَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمُضۡغَةَ عِظَـٰمࣰا فَكَسَوۡنَا ٱلۡعِظَـٰمَ لَحۡمࣰا ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَـٰهُ خَلۡقًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ ۝١٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Next, We fashioned the seed into a mass of blood, and then We fashioned the mass into a lump, [that looked like] something chewed [like chewing gum]. Next, We added bones and clothed the bones with flesh. We then developed all this as a new creation. Blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators!

thumma khalaqnā l-nuṭ'fata ʿalaqatan fakhalaqnā l-ʿalaqata muḍ'ghatan fakhalaqnā l-muḍ'ghata ʿiẓāman fakasawnā l-ʿiẓāma laḥman thumma anshanāhu khalqan ākhara fatabāraka l-lahu aḥsanu l-khāliqīn

23:15

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعۡدَ ذَ ٰلِكَ لَمَیِّتُونَ ۝١٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Eventually, you will die.

thumma innakum baʿda dhālika lamayyitūn

23:16

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ تُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Again, on the Day of Resurrection, you will be raised.

thumma innakum yawma l-qiyāmati tub'ʿathūn

23:17

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعَ طَرَاۤىِٕقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلۡخَلۡقِ غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

We have made above you seven layers [of sky], and We never neglect creation.

walaqad khalaqnā fawqakum sabʿa ṭarāiqa wamā kunnā ʿani l-khalqi ghāfilīn

23:18

وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءَۢ بِقَدَرࣲ فَأَسۡكَنَّـٰهُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابِۭ بِهِۦ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝١٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

We send down water from the sky according to measure. We cause it to soak into the soil. We certainly are able to drain it away.

wa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan biqadarin fa-askannāhu fī l-arḍi wa-innā ʿalā dhahābin bihi laqādirūn

23:19

فَأَنشَأۡنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣲ لَّكُمۡ فِیهَا فَوَ ٰكِهُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝١٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

With it, We grow for you gardens of date palms and vines. In them, you have abundant fruits. Of them, you eat.

fa-anshanā lakum bihi jannātin min nakhīlin wa-aʿnābin lakum fīhā fawākihu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

23:20

وَشَجَرَةࣰ تَخۡرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَیۡنَاۤءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهۡنِ وَصِبۡغࣲ لِّلۡءَاكِلِینَ ۝٢٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

A tree grows from Mount Sinai. It produces oil and relish for all to eat.

washajaratan takhruju min ṭūri saynāa tanbutu bil-duh'ni waṣib'ghin lil'ākilīn

23:21

وَإِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ لَعِبۡرَةࣰۖ نُّسۡقِیكُم مِّمَّا فِی بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٢١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, in cattle there is a lesson. We give you drink [milk] from what is in their bellies. In them are numerous benefits for you, and you eat of them.

wa-inna lakum fī l-anʿāmi laʿib'ratan nus'qīkum mimmā fī buṭūnihā walakum fīhā manāfiʿu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

23:22

وَعَلَیۡهَا وَعَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ تُحۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

On them, as well as on ships, you are carried.

waʿalayhā waʿalā l-ful'ki tuḥ'malūn

23:23

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٢٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, We sent Noah to his people. He said, “O my people, worship Allah. You have no god but Him. Will you not fear?”

walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

23:24

فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُرِیدُ أَن یَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ مَّا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِیۤ ءَابَاۤىِٕنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

The leaders of the unbelievers among his people said, “He is no more than a man like you. His wish is to assert his superiority over you. If Allah had wanted, He could have sent down angels. We never heard such a thing from our ancestors of old.

faqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yurīdu an yatafaḍḍala ʿalaykum walaw shāa l-lahu la-anzala malāikatan mā samiʿ'nā bihādhā fī ābāinā l-awalīn

23:25

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلُۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةࣱ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٢٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

“He is only a man possessed. Wait concerning him for a time.”

in huwa illā rajulun bihi jinnatun fatarabbaṣū bihi ḥattā ḥīni

23:26

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٢٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

(Noah) said, “My Lord, help me for they accuse me of lying.”

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

23:27

فَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ أَنِ ٱصۡنَعِ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ بِأَعۡیُنِنَا وَوَحۡیِنَا فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَمۡرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ فَٱسۡلُكۡ فِیهَا مِن كُلࣲّ زَوۡجَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ وَأَهۡلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبۡنِی فِی ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوۤا۟ إِنَّهُم مُّغۡرَقُونَ ۝٢٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

We inspired him, “Build an ark within Our sight and with Our guidance. When Our command comes and the fountains of the earth gush, take onboard mated pairs of every species. Take also your family, except those of (your family) against whom the Word has already gone forth. Do not address Me in favor of the sinners, for they certainly shall be drowned.

fa-awḥaynā ilayhi ani iṣ'naʿi l-ful'ka bi-aʿyuninā wawaḥyinā fa-idhā jāa amrunā wafāra l-tanūru fa-us'luk fīhā min kullin zawjayni ith'nayni wa-ahlaka illā man sabaqa ʿalayhi l-qawlu min'hum walā tukhāṭib'nī fī alladhīna ẓalamū innahum mugh'raqūn

23:28

فَإِذَا ٱسۡتَوَیۡتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ فَقُلِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

When you have boarded the ark, along with those with you, say, “Praise to Allah who has saved us from the people who sin.”

fa-idhā is'tawayta anta waman maʿaka ʿalā l-ful'ki faquli l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī najjānā mina l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:29

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلۡنِی مُنزَلࣰا مُّبَارَكࣰا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡمُنزِلِینَ ۝٢٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “My Lord, allow me to land at a blessed place to land. You are the best to allow the landing.”

waqul rabbi anzil'nī munzalan mubārakan wa-anta khayru l-munzilīn

23:30

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبۡتَلِینَ ۝٣٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, in this are signs by which We test. Truly, We are testing.

inna fī dhālika laāyātin wa-in kunnā lamub'talīn

23:31

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٣١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Afterward, We raised another generation.

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qarnan ākharīn

23:32

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا فِیهِمۡ رَسُولࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٣٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

We sent to them a messenger from among themselves. “Worship Allah. You have no god except Him. Will you not fear?”

fa-arsalnā fīhim rasūlan min'hum ani uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

23:33

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَاۤءِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَتۡرَفۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یَأۡكُلُ مِمَّا تَأۡكُلُونَ مِنۡهُ وَیَشۡرَبُ مِمَّا تَشۡرَبُونَ ۝٣٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

The leaders of his people did not believe, and they denied the meeting in the hereafter. We had bestowed on them good things of this life. They said, “He is no more than a man like you. He eats like you eat. He drinks like you drink.

waqāla l-mala-u min qawmihi alladhīna kafarū wakadhabū biliqāi l-ākhirati wa-atrafnāhum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yakulu mimmā takulūna min'hu wayashrabu mimmā tashrabūn

23:34

وَلَىِٕنۡ أَطَعۡتُم بَشَرࣰا مِّثۡلَكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٣٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

If you obey a man like yourselves, you will certainly be lost.

wala-in aṭaʿtum basharan mith'lakum innakum idhan lakhāsirūn

23:35

أَیَعِدُكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ إِذَا مِتُّمۡ وَكُنتُمۡ تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخۡرَجُونَ ۝٣٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Does he promise that, when you die and become dust and bones, you will be resurrected?

ayaʿidukum annakum idhā mittum wakuntum turāban waʿiẓāman annakum mukh'rajūn

23:36

۞ هَیۡهَاتَ هَیۡهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ ۝٣٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Farfetched! Farfetched is what you are promised!

hayhāta hayhāta limā tūʿadūn

23:37

إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا حَیَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡیَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡیَا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَبۡعُوثِینَ ۝٣٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

There is nothing but the life of this world. We die and we live, but we will never be resurrected.

in hiya illā ḥayātunā l-dun'yā namūtu wanaḥyā wamā naḥnu bimabʿūthīn

23:38

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا وَمَا نَحۡنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٣٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah. We are not going to believe him.”

in huwa illā rajulun if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban wamā naḥnu lahu bimu'minīn

23:39

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٣٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

(The prophet) said, “My Lord, help me for they accuse me of lying.”

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

23:40

قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِیلࣲ لَّیُصۡبِحُنَّ نَـٰدِمِینَ ۝٤٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

(Allah) said, “In only a little while, they will be sorry.”

qāla ʿammā qalīlin layuṣ'biḥunna nādimīn

23:41

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ غُثَاۤءࣰۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Then the blast overwhelmed them with justice. We made them as a pile of dead leaves. Away with the people who sin!

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu bil-ḥaqi fajaʿalnāhum ghuthāan fabuʿ'dan lil'qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:42

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٤٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

We raised other generations after them.

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qurūnan ākharīn

23:43

مَا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ ۝٤٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

No people can hasten their term, and they cannot delay it.

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūn

23:44

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتۡرَاۖ كُلَّ مَا جَاۤءَ أُمَّةࣰ رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُۖ فَأَتۡبَعۡنَا بَعۡضَهُم بَعۡضࣰا وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَحَادِیثَۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّقَوۡمࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٤٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time a messenger came to a people, they accused him of lying, so We made them follow each other [in punishment]. We made them like just a story. Away with people who will not believe!

thumma arsalnā rusulanā tatrā kulla mā jāa ummatan rasūluhā kadhabūhu fa-atbaʿnā baʿḍahum baʿḍan wajaʿalnāhum aḥādītha fabuʿ'dan liqawmin lā yu'minūn

23:45

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٤٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and apparent authority.

thumma arsalnā mūsā wa-akhāhu hārūna biāyātinā wasul'ṭānin mubīni

23:46

إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمًا عَالِینَ ۝٤٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

[We sent them] to Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they behaved arrogantly. They were a haughty people.

ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi fa-is'takbarū wakānū qawman ʿālīn

23:47

فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لِبَشَرَیۡنِ مِثۡلِنَا وَقَوۡمُهُمَا لَنَا عَـٰبِدُونَ ۝٤٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

They said, “Shall we believe in two men like us? Their people are servants to us!”

faqālū anu'minu libasharayni mith'linā waqawmuhumā lanā ʿābidūn

23:48

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡلَكِینَ ۝٤٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

They accused them of lies. They became among those who were destroyed.

fakadhabūhumā fakānū mina l-muh'lakīn

23:49

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَهۡتَدُونَ ۝٤٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

We gave Moses the Book [of Torah] so that they [the Hebrew nation] may receive guidance.

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba laʿallahum yahtadūn

23:50

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱبۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥۤ ءَایَةࣰ وَءَاوَیۡنَـٰهُمَاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبۡوَةࣲ ذَاتِ قَرَارࣲ وَمَعِینࣲ ۝٥٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Also, We made the son of Mary and his mother as a sign. We gave them both shelter on high ground, providing security and having springs.

wajaʿalnā ib'na maryama wa-ummahu āyatan waāwaynāhumā ilā rabwatin dhāti qarārin wamaʿīni

23:51

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ وَٱعۡمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّی بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٥١

Linda "iLham" Barto

O Messengers, eat of the fine things, and live righteously. Truly, I [the Lord] am well aware of all that you do.

yāayyuhā l-rusulu kulū mina l-ṭayibāti wa-iʿ'malū ṣāliḥan innī bimā taʿmalūna ʿalīmu

23:52

وَإِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦۤ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱتَّقُونِ ۝٥٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, your faith community is one faith community, and I am your Lord and Cherisher; therefore, fear Me.

wa-inna hādhihi ummatukum ummatan wāḥidatan wa-anā rabbukum fa-ittaqūn

23:53

فَتَقَطَّعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَهُم بَیۡنَهُمۡ زُبُرࣰاۖ كُلُّ حِزۡبِۭ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٥٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

(People), however, have terminated their situation [of unity] and divided into sects. Each sect rejoices in its own (doctrine).

fataqaṭṭaʿū amrahum baynahum zuburan kullu ḥiz'bin bimā ladayhim fariḥūn

23:54

فَذَرۡهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَتِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینٍ ۝٥٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Allow them their ignorance for the time being.

fadharhum fī ghamratihim ḥattā ḥīni

23:55

أَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالࣲ وَبَنِینَ ۝٥٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do they really think that, just because We have blessed them with wealth and children,…

ayaḥsabūna annamā numidduhum bihi min mālin wabanīn

23:56

نُسَارِعُ لَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِۚ بَل لَّا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٥٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

…We would hasten upon them every good thing. Certainly not, but they do not understand.

nusāriʿu lahum fī l-khayrāti bal lā yashʿurūn

23:57

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ هُم مِّنۡ خَشۡیَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ ۝٥٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Indeed, those who live in awe for fear of their Lord,…

inna alladhīna hum min khashyati rabbihim mush'fiqūn

23:58

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

…who believe in the verses of their Lord,…

wa-alladhīna hum biāyāti rabbihim yu'minūn

23:59

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ لَا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٥٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

…who do not assign partners with their Lord,…

wa-alladhīna hum birabbihim lā yush'rikūn

23:60

وَٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡتُونَ مَاۤ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمۡ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ رَ ٰجِعُونَ ۝٦٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

…and who dispense heart-felt charity out of reverence, knowing they will return to their Lord,…

wa-alladhīna yu'tūna mā ātaw waqulūbuhum wajilatun annahum ilā rabbihim rājiʿūn

23:61

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِ وَهُمۡ لَهَا سَـٰبِقُونَ ۝٦١

Linda "iLham" Barto

…are they who hasten to do every good deed and who are exemplary in doing so.

ulāika yusāriʿūna fī l-khayrāti wahum lahā sābiqūn

23:62

وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۚ وَلَدَیۡنَا كِتَـٰبࣱ یَنطِقُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

We do not burden a soul beyond its endurance. Before Us is a record speaking the truth. They will never be wronged.

walā nukallifu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā waladaynā kitābun yanṭiqu bil-ḥaqi wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

23:63

بَلۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلࣱ مِّن دُونِ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُمۡ لَهَا عَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٦٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

But their hearts are confused about this. In addition, they perform [sinful] deeds.

bal qulūbuhum fī ghamratin min hādhā walahum aʿmālun min dūni dhālika hum lahā ʿāmilūn

23:64

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَخَذۡنَا مُتۡرَفِیهِم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمۡ یَجۡءَرُونَ ۝٦٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will sin] until We punish their affluent ones. They will groan in begging.

ḥattā idhā akhadhnā mut'rafīhim bil-ʿadhābi idhā hum yajarūn

23:65

لَا تَجۡءَرُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ ۝٦٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do not groan for help on this day. You will certainly not be helped by Us.

lā tajarū l-yawma innakum minnā lā tunṣarūn

23:66

قَدۡ كَانَتۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡقَـٰبِكُمۡ تَنكِصُونَ ۝٦٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

My Signs used to be recited to you, but you used to turn away on your heels.

qad kānat āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum ʿalā aʿqābikum tankiṣūn

23:67

مُسۡتَكۡبِرِینَ بِهِۦ سَـٰمِرࣰا تَهۡجُرُونَ ۝٦٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

[You turned] in arrogance. You spoke nonsense about (the Qur’an), talking wickedly.

mus'takbirīna bihi sāmiran tahjurūn

23:68

أَفَلَمۡ یَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ أَمۡ جَاۤءَهُم مَّا لَمۡ یَأۡتِ ءَابَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٦٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do they not ponder the Word? Has anything come to them that did not come to their forefathers?

afalam yaddabbarū l-qawla am jāahum mā lam yati ābāahumu l-awalīn

23:69

أَمۡ لَمۡ یَعۡرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ ۝٦٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do they not recognize their messenger so that they deny him?

am lam yaʿrifū rasūlahum fahum lahu munkirūn

23:70

أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةُۢۚ بَلۡ جَاۤءَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لِلۡحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٧٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do they say, “He is possessed”? Nonsense! He has brought them the truth, but most of them hate the truth.

am yaqūlūna bihi jinnatun bal jāahum bil-ḥaqi wa-aktharuhum lil'ḥaqqi kārihūn

23:71

وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهِنَّۚ بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِذِكۡرِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٧١

Linda "iLham" Barto

If the truth had been in accordance with their desires, truly the skies and the earth and all beings of them would have been corrupted. Nonsense! We have sent them their reminder, but they turn from their reminder.

walawi ittabaʿa l-ḥaqu ahwāahum lafasadati l-samāwātu wal-arḍu waman fīhinna bal ataynāhum bidhik'rihim fahum ʿan dhik'rihim muʿ'riḍūn

23:72

أَمۡ تَسۡءَلُهُمۡ خَرۡجࣰا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَیۡرࣱۖ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٧٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you ask them for some payment? The payment of your Lord is best. He is the best of the providers.

am tasaluhum kharjan fakharāju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru l-rāziqīn

23:73

وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٧٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, you call them to the Straight Way.

wa-innaka latadʿūhum ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

23:74

وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطِ لَنَـٰكِبُونَ ۝٧٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, those who do not believe in the hereafter are deviating from that way.

wa-inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati ʿani l-ṣirāṭi lanākibūn

23:75

۞ وَلَوۡ رَحِمۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرࣲّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝٧٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

If We had mercy on them and removed the distress that is on them, they would still persist in their sin. They would wander blindly.

walaw raḥim'nāhum wakashafnā mā bihim min ḍurrin lalajjū fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

23:76

وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسۡتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَمَا یَتَضَرَّعُونَ ۝٧٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

We inflicted punishment on them, but they did not humble themselves before their Lord. They do not address Him in submission.

walaqad akhadhnāhum bil-ʿadhābi famā is'takānū lirabbihim wamā yataḍarraʿūn

23:77

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَابࣰا ذَا عَذَابࣲ شَدِیدٍ إِذَا هُمۡ فِیهِ مُبۡلِسُونَ ۝٧٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Finally, We will open for them a gate that leads to a severe punishment. At that time, they will be plunged into despair.

ḥattā idhā fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban dhā ʿadhābin shadīdin idhā hum fīhi mub'lisūn

23:78

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

It is He who has created for you hearing, sight, and hearts [for feeling and understanding]; yet, little thanks you give.

wahuwa alladhī ansha-a lakumu l-samʿa wal-abṣāra wal-afidata qalīlan mā tashkurūn

23:79

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی ذَرَأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٧٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

He populated you throughout the earth, and to Him you will reassemble.

wahuwa alladhī dhara-akum fī l-arḍi wa-ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn

23:80

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُ وَلَهُ ٱخۡتِلَـٰفُ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٨٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

It is He who gives life and death, and the alternation of night and day is His. Will you not understand?

wahuwa alladhī yuḥ'yī wayumītu walahu ikh'tilāfu al-layli wal-nahāri afalā taʿqilūn

23:81

بَلۡ قَالُوا۟ مِثۡلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝٨١

Linda "iLham" Barto

In contradiction, they say things similar to what the people of old said.

bal qālū mith'la mā qāla l-awalūn

23:82

قَالُوۤا۟ أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝٨٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

They say, “Huh? When we die and become dust and bones, can we expect to be restored?

qālū a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn

23:83

لَقَدۡ وُعِدۡنَا نَحۡنُ وَءَابَاۤؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبۡلُ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٨٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Such things were promised to us and to our parents before us. They are nothing but ancient tales!”

laqad wuʿid'nā naḥnu waābāunā hādhā min qablu in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awalīn

23:84

قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “To whom belong Earth and all beings of this [planet]? [Tell me] if you know.”

qul limani l-arḍu waman fīhā in kuntum taʿlamūn

23:85

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٨٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will say, “To Allah!” Then say, “So won’t you remember [Him]?”

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tadhakkarūn

23:86

قُلۡ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ ٱلسَّبۡعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٨٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “Who is the Lord of the seven skies? Who is the Lord of the Supreme Throne [of Heaven]?”

qul man rabbu l-samāwāti l-sabʿi warabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm

23:87

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٨٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will say, “God!” Then say, “Will you not then be filled with awe?”

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tattaqūn

23:88

قُلۡ مَنۢ بِیَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُوَ یُجِیرُ وَلَا یُجَارُ عَلَیۡهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “In whose hands is the dominion of all things? Who protects, but is not protected? [Tell me] if you know.”

qul man biyadihi malakūtu kulli shayin wahuwa yujīru walā yujāru ʿalayhi in kuntum taʿlamūn

23:89

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسۡحَرُونَ ۝٨٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will say, “Allah!” Then say, “Then why are you so delusional?”

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul fa-annā tus'ḥarūn

23:90

بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝٩٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

We have sent them the truth, but certainly they prefer deception.

bal ataynāhum bil-ḥaqi wa-innahum lakādhibūn

23:91

مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدࣲ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنۡ إِلَـٰهٍۚ إِذࣰا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَـٰهِۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Allah did not beget a son. There is no god along with Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what he created, and some [gods] would have overcome others. Glory to Allah above what they attribute!

mā ittakhadha l-lahu min waladin wamā kāna maʿahu min ilāhin idhan ladhahaba kullu ilāhin bimā khalaqa walaʿalā baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yaṣifūn

23:92

عَـٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٩٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

He knows what is secret and what is publicized. Exalted is He above what they associate!

qul rabbi immā turiyannī mā yūʿadūn

23:93

قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِیَنِّی مَا یُوعَدُونَ ۝٩٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “My Lord, perhaps You could show me what they are assured.

Qul rabbi imma turiyannee ma yooAAadoona

23:94

رَبِّ فَلَا تَجۡعَلۡنِی فِی ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٩٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

“My Lord, do not put me among sinners.”

rabbi falā tajʿalnī fī l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:95

وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّرِیَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمۡ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝٩٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

We are certainly able to show you what they are assured.

wa-innā ʿalā an nuriyaka mā naʿiduhum laqādirūn

23:96

ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلسَّیِّئَةَۚ نَحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Repel evil with what is best. We know best what they attribute.

id'faʿ bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu l-sayi-ata naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaṣifūn

23:97

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنۡ هَمَزَ ٰتِ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ ۝٩٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “My Lord, I seek refuge with You from the suggestions of the devils.

waqul rabbi aʿūdhu bika min hamazāti l-shayāṭīn

23:98

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن یَحۡضُرُونِ ۝٩٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

“I seek refuge with You if they even come near me.”

wa-aʿūdhu bika rabbi an yaḥḍurūn

23:99

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرۡجِعُونِ ۝٩٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Finally, when death comes to one of them, he/she will say, “My Lord, send me back…

ḥattā idhā jāa aḥadahumu l-mawtu qāla rabbi ir'jiʿūn

23:100

لَعَلِّیۤ أَعۡمَلُ صَـٰلِحࣰا فِیمَا تَرَكۡتُۚ كَلَّاۤۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَاۤىِٕلُهَاۖ وَمِن وَرَاۤىِٕهِم بَرۡزَخٌ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٠٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

“…so that I may work righteously in the things I neglected.” Nonsense! Truly, it is only a vow he/she says. Before them is a partition until the day they are resurrected.

laʿallī aʿmalu ṣāliḥan fīmā taraktu kallā innahā kalimatun huwa qāiluhā wamin warāihim barzakhun ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

23:101

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَلَاۤ أَنسَابَ بَیۡنَهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ وَلَا یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝١٠١

Linda "iLham" Barto

When the trumpet is blown, no more relationships will be among them that day. They will not even ask about one another.

fa-idhā nufikha fī l-ṣūri falā ansāba baynahum yawma-idhin walā yatasāalūn

23:102

فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٠٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Those whose balance [of good deeds] is heavy will attain salvation.

faman thaqulat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

23:103

وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فِی جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١٠٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Those whose balance [of good deeds] is light will be those who have lost their souls. They will abide in Hell.

waman khaffat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fī jahannama khālidūn

23:104

تَلۡفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمۡ فِیهَا كَـٰلِحُونَ ۝١٠٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

The fire will burn their faces. They will [seem to] grin because their lips will be displaced.

talfaḥu wujūhahumu l-nāru wahum fīhā kāliḥūn

23:105

أَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٠٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Were My signs not recited to you while you only treated them as lies?

alam takun āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum bihā tukadhibūn

23:106

قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتۡ عَلَیۡنَا شِقۡوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوۡمࣰا ضَاۤلِّینَ ۝١٠٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will say, “Our Lord, our misery was too much for us, and we became a people gone astray.

qālū rabbanā ghalabat ʿalaynā shiq'watunā wakunnā qawman ḍāllīn

23:107

رَبَّنَاۤ أَخۡرِجۡنَا مِنۡهَا فَإِنۡ عُدۡنَا فَإِنَّا ظَـٰلِمُونَ ۝١٠٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Our Lord, bring us out of this. If we return [to sin], then we will certainly be [lost] sinners.”

rabbanā akhrij'nā min'hā fa-in ʿud'nā fa-innā ẓālimūn

23:108

قَالَ ٱخۡسَءُوا۟ فِیهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ ۝١٠٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

He will say, “Be humiliated in (Hell). Don’t even speak to Me.

qāla ikh'saū fīhā walā tukallimūn

23:109

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡ عِبَادِی یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَاۤ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١٠٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Indeed, some of My servants said, ‘Our Lord, we believe. Forgive us and have mercy on us. You are the best of those who show mercy.’

innahu kāna farīqun min ʿibādī yaqūlūna rabbanā āmannā fa-igh'fir lanā wa-ir'ḥamnā wa-anta khayru l-rāḥimīn

23:110

فَٱتَّخَذۡتُمُوهُمۡ سِخۡرِیًّا حَتَّىٰۤ أَنسَوۡكُمۡ ذِكۡرِی وَكُنتُم مِّنۡهُمۡ تَضۡحَكُونَ ۝١١٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

“But you treated them with ridicule. You did so until it made you forget My message while you were laughing at them.

fa-ittakhadhtumūhum sikh'riyyan ḥattā ansawkum dhik'rī wakuntum min'hum taḍḥakūn

23:111

إِنِّی جَزَیۡتُهُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡفَاۤىِٕزُونَ ۝١١١

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Indeed, I have rewarded them this day for their patience. They are truly the successful ones.”

innī jazaytuhumu l-yawma bimā ṣabarū annahum humu l-fāizūn

23:112

قَـٰلَ كَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ عَدَدَ سِنِینَ ۝١١٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

He will say, “How many years did you stay on earth?”

qāla kam labith'tum fī l-arḍi ʿadada sinīn

23:113

قَالُوا۟ لَبِثۡنَا یَوۡمًا أَوۡ بَعۡضَ یَوۡمࣲ فَسۡءَلِ ٱلۡعَاۤدِّینَ ۝١١٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will say, “[It seems that] we stayed a day or part of a day, but ask those who keep account.”

qālū labith'nā yawman aw baʿḍa yawmin fasali l-ʿādīn

23:114

قَـٰلَ إِن لَّبِثۡتُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰاۖ لَّوۡ أَنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١١٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

He will say, “You stayed only a little, if you only realized it.

qāla in labith'tum illā qalīlan law annakum kuntum taʿlamūn

23:115

أَفَحَسِبۡتُمۡ أَنَّمَا خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ عَبَثࣰا وَأَنَّكُمۡ إِلَیۡنَا لَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝١١٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Did you think that We created you only for sport? [Did you think that] you would not be brought back to Us?”

afaḥasib'tum annamā khalaqnākum ʿabathan wa-annakum ilaynā lā tur'jaʿūn

23:116

فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡكَرِیمِ ۝١١٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Exalted is Allah, the King, the Reality! No god is there except Him, the Lord of the throne and of honor.

fataʿālā l-lahu l-maliku l-ḥaqu lā ilāha illā huwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-karīm

23:117

وَمَن یَدۡعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرۡهَـٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١١٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

If anyone invokes, besides Allah, any other god, he/she has no authority for it. His/her judgment will be only with his/her Lord. Truly, the unbelievers will fail to succeed.

23:118

وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ وَٱرۡحَمۡ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١١٨
