1 Success of the Faithful

۞ قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١

Now are the true believers happy

qad aflaḥa l-mu'minūn

ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ فِی صَلَاتِهِمۡ خَـٰشِعُونَ ۝٢

Who humble themselves in their prayer

alladhīna hum fī ṣalātihim khāshiʿūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عَنِ ٱللَّغۡوِ مُعۡرِضُونَ ۝٣

and who eschew all vain discourse

wa-alladhīna hum ʿani l-laghwi muʿ'riḍūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَـٰعِلُونَ ۝٤

and who are doers of alms-deeds

wa-alladhīna hum lilzzakati fāʿilūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَـٰفِظُونَ ۝٥

and who keep themselves from carnal knowledge of any wome

wa-alladhīna hum lifurūjihim ḥāfiẓūn

إِلَّا عَلَىٰۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجِهِمۡ أَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُهُمۡ فَإِنَّهُمۡ غَیۡرُ مَلُومِینَ ۝٦

except their wives, or the captives which their right hands possess; -- for as to them they shall be blameless

illā ʿalā azwājihim aw mā malakat aymānuhum fa-innahum ghayru malūmīn

فَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَىٰ وَرَاۤءَ ذَ ٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡعَادُونَ ۝٧

But whoever coveteth any woman beyond these, they are transgressors: -

famani ib'taghā warāa dhālika fa-ulāika humu l-ʿādūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَ ٰعُونَ ۝٨

And who acquit themselves faithfully of their trust, and justly perform their covenant

wa-alladhīna hum li-amānātihim waʿahdihim rāʿūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَ ٰتِهِمۡ یُحَافِظُونَ ۝٩

and who observe their appointed times of prayer

wa-alladhīna hum ʿalā ṣalawātihim yuḥāfiẓūn

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡوَ ٰرِثُونَ ۝١٠

These shall be the heirs

ulāika humu l-wārithūn

ٱلَّذِینَ یَرِثُونَ ٱلۡفِرۡدَوۡسَ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١١

who shall inherit paradise; they shall continue therein for ever

alladhīna yarithūna l-fir'dawsa hum fīhā khālidūn

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن سُلَـٰلَةࣲ مِّن طِینࣲ ۝١٢

We formerly created man of a finer sort of clay

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna min sulālatin min ṭīni

ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ نُطۡفَةࣰ فِی قَرَارࣲ مَّكِینࣲ ۝١٣

afterwards We placed him in the form of seed in a sure receptacle

thumma jaʿalnāhu nuṭ'fatan fī qarārin makīni

ثُمَّ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلنُّطۡفَةَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡعَلَقَةَ مُضۡغَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمُضۡغَةَ عِظَـٰمࣰا فَكَسَوۡنَا ٱلۡعِظَـٰمَ لَحۡمࣰا ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَـٰهُ خَلۡقًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ ۝١٤

Afterwards We made the seed coagulated blood; and We formed the coagulated blood into a piece of flesh: Then We formed the piece of flesh into bones; and We cloathed those bones with flesh: Then We produced the same by another creation. Wherefore blessed be God, the most excellent creator

thumma khalaqnā l-nuṭ'fata ʿalaqatan fakhalaqnā l-ʿalaqata muḍ'ghatan fakhalaqnā l-muḍ'ghata ʿiẓāman fakasawnā l-ʿiẓāma laḥman thumma anshanāhu khalqan ākhara fatabāraka l-lahu aḥsanu l-khāliqīn

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعۡدَ ذَ ٰلِكَ لَمَیِّتُونَ ۝١٥

After this shall ye die

thumma innakum baʿda dhālika lamayyitūn

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ تُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٦

And afterwards shall ye be restored to life, on the day of resurrection

thumma innakum yawma l-qiyāmati tub'ʿathūn

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعَ طَرَاۤىِٕقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلۡخَلۡقِ غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٧

And We have created over you seven heavens: And We are not negligent of what We have created

walaqad khalaqnā fawqakum sabʿa ṭarāiqa wamā kunnā ʿani l-khalqi ghāfilīn

وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءَۢ بِقَدَرࣲ فَأَسۡكَنَّـٰهُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابِۭ بِهِۦ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝١٨

And We send down rain from heaven, by measure; and We cause it to remain on the earth: We are also certainly able to deprive you of the same

wa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan biqadarin fa-askannāhu fī l-arḍi wa-innā ʿalā dhahābin bihi laqādirūn

فَأَنشَأۡنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣲ لَّكُمۡ فِیهَا فَوَ ٰكِهُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝١٩

And We cause gardens of palm-trees, and vineyards, to spring forth for you by means thereof; wherein ye have many fruits, and whereof ye eat

fa-anshanā lakum bihi jannātin min nakhīlin wa-aʿnābin lakum fīhā fawākihu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

وَشَجَرَةࣰ تَخۡرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَیۡنَاۤءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهۡنِ وَصِبۡغࣲ لِّلۡءَاكِلِینَ ۝٢٠

And We also raise for you a tree springing from mount Sinai; which produceth oil, and a sauce for those who eat

washajaratan takhruju min ṭūri saynāa tanbutu bil-duh'ni waṣib'ghin lil'ākilīn

وَإِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ لَعِبۡرَةࣰۖ نُّسۡقِیكُم مِّمَّا فِی بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٢١

Ye have likewise an instruction in the cattle: We give you to drink of the milk which is in their bellies, and ye receive many advantages from them; and of them do ye eat

wa-inna lakum fī l-anʿāmi laʿib'ratan nus'qīkum mimmā fī buṭūnihā walakum fīhā manāfiʿu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

وَعَلَیۡهَا وَعَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ تُحۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٢

And on them, and on ships, are ye carried

waʿalayhā waʿalā l-ful'ki tuḥ'malūn

2 Noah

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٢٣

We sent Noah heretofore unto his people, and he said, O my people, serve God: Ye have no God besides Him; will ye not therefore fear the consequence of your worshipping other gods

walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُرِیدُ أَن یَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ مَّا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِیۤ ءَابَاۤىِٕنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٤

And the chiefs of his people, who believed not, said, this is no other than a man, as ye are: He seeketh to raise himself to a superiority over you. If God had pleased to have sent a messenger unto you, He would surely have sent angels: We have not heard this of our forefathers

faqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yurīdu an yatafaḍḍala ʿalaykum walaw shāa l-lahu la-anzala malāikatan mā samiʿ'nā bihādhā fī ābāinā l-awalīn

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلُۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةࣱ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٢٥

Verily he is no other than a man disturbed with frenzy: Wherefore wait concerning him for a time

in huwa illā rajulun bihi jinnatun fatarabbaṣū bihi ḥattā ḥīni

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٢٦

Noah said, O Lord, do thou protect me; for that they accuse me of falsehood

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

فَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ أَنِ ٱصۡنَعِ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ بِأَعۡیُنِنَا وَوَحۡیِنَا فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَمۡرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ فَٱسۡلُكۡ فِیهَا مِن كُلࣲّ زَوۡجَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ وَأَهۡلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبۡنِی فِی ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوۤا۟ إِنَّهُم مُّغۡرَقُونَ ۝٢٧

And We revealed our orders unto him, saying, make the ark in our sight; and according to our revelation. And when our decree cometh to be executed, and the oven shall boil and pour forth water, carry into it of every species of animals one pair; and also thy family, except such of them on whom a previous sentence of destruction hath passed: And speak not unto Me in behalf of those who have been unjust; for they shall be drowned

fa-awḥaynā ilayhi ani iṣ'naʿi l-ful'ka bi-aʿyuninā wawaḥyinā fa-idhā jāa amrunā wafāra l-tanūru fa-us'luk fīhā min kullin zawjayni ith'nayni wa-ahlaka illā man sabaqa ʿalayhi l-qawlu min'hum walā tukhāṭib'nī fī alladhīna ẓalamū innahum mugh'raqūn

فَإِذَا ٱسۡتَوَیۡتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ فَقُلِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢٨

And when thou and they who shall be with thee, shall go up into the ark, say, praise be unto God, who hath delivered us from the ungodly people

fa-idhā is'tawayta anta waman maʿaka ʿalā l-ful'ki faquli l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī najjānā mina l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلۡنِی مُنزَلࣰا مُّبَارَكࣰا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡمُنزِلِینَ ۝٢٩

And say, O Lord, cause me to come down from this ark with a blessed descent; for thou art best able to bring me down from the same with safety

waqul rabbi anzil'nī munzalan mubārakan wa-anta khayru l-munzilīn

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبۡتَلِینَ ۝٣٠

Verily herein were signs of our omnipotence; and We proved mankind thereby

inna fī dhālika laāyātin wa-in kunnā lamub'talīn

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٣١

Afterwards We raised up another generation after them

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qarnan ākharīn

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا فِیهِمۡ رَسُولࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٣٢

and We sent unto them an apostle from among them, who said, worship God: Ye have no God besides Him; will ye not therefore fear his vengeance

fa-arsalnā fīhim rasūlan min'hum ani uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

3 Prophets after Noah

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَاۤءِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَتۡرَفۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یَأۡكُلُ مِمَّا تَأۡكُلُونَ مِنۡهُ وَیَشۡرَبُ مِمَّا تَشۡرَبُونَ ۝٣٣

And the chiefs of his people, who believed not, and who denied the meeting of the life to come, and on whom We had bestowed affluence in this present life, said, this is not other than a man, as ye are; he eateth of that whereof ye eat, and he drinketh of that whereof ye drink

waqāla l-mala-u min qawmihi alladhīna kafarū wakadhabū biliqāi l-ākhirati wa-atrafnāhum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yakulu mimmā takulūna min'hu wayashrabu mimmā tashrabūn

وَلَىِٕنۡ أَطَعۡتُم بَشَرࣰا مِّثۡلَكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٣٤

And if ye obey a man like unto your selves, ye will surely be sufferers

wala-in aṭaʿtum basharan mith'lakum innakum idhan lakhāsirūn

أَیَعِدُكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ إِذَا مِتُّمۡ وَكُنتُمۡ تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخۡرَجُونَ ۝٣٥

Doth he threaten you that after ye shall be dead, and shall become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth alive from your graves

ayaʿidukum annakum idhā mittum wakuntum turāban waʿiẓāman annakum mukh'rajūn

۞ هَیۡهَاتَ هَیۡهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ ۝٣٦

Away, away with that ye are threatened with

hayhāta hayhāta limā tūʿadūn

إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا حَیَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡیَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡیَا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَبۡعُوثِینَ ۝٣٧

There is no other life besides our present life: We die, and we live; and we shall not be raised again

in hiya illā ḥayātunā l-dun'yā namūtu wanaḥyā wamā naḥnu bimabʿūthīn

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا وَمَا نَحۡنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٣٨

This is no other than a man, who deviseth a lie concerning God: But we will not believe him

in huwa illā rajulun if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban wamā naḥnu lahu bimu'minīn

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٣٩

Their apostle said, O Lord, defend me; for that they have accused me of imposture

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِیلࣲ لَّیُصۡبِحُنَّ نَـٰدِمِینَ ۝٤٠

God answered, after a little while they shall surely repent their obstinacy

qāla ʿammā qalīlin layuṣ'biḥunna nādimīn

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ غُثَاۤءࣰۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤١

Wherefore a severe punishment was justly inflicted on them, and We rendered them like the refuse which is carried down by a stream. Away therefore with the ungodly people

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu bil-ḥaqi fajaʿalnāhum ghuthāan fabuʿ'dan lil'qawmi l-ẓālimīn

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٤٢

Afterwards We raised up other generations after them

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qurūnan ākharīn

مَا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ ۝٤٣

No nation shall be punished before their determined time; neither shall they be respited after

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūn

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتۡرَاۖ كُلَّ مَا جَاۤءَ أُمَّةࣰ رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُۖ فَأَتۡبَعۡنَا بَعۡضَهُم بَعۡضࣰا وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَحَادِیثَۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّقَوۡمࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٤٤

Afterwards We sent our apostles, one after another. So often as their apostle came unto any nation, they charged him with imposture: And We caused them successively to follow one another to destruction; and We made them only subjects of traditional stories. Away therefore with the unbelieving nations

thumma arsalnā rusulanā tatrā kulla mā jāa ummatan rasūluhā kadhabūhu fa-atbaʿnā baʿḍahum baʿḍan wajaʿalnāhum aḥādītha fabuʿ'dan liqawmin lā yu'minūn

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٤٥

Afterwards We sent Moses, and Aaron his brother, with our signs and manifest power

thumma arsalnā mūsā wa-akhāhu hārūna biāyātinā wasul'ṭānin mubīni

إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمًا عَالِینَ ۝٤٦

unto Pharaoh and his princes: But they proudly refused to believe on him; for they were a haughty people

ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi fa-is'takbarū wakānū qawman ʿālīn

فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لِبَشَرَیۡنِ مِثۡلِنَا وَقَوۡمُهُمَا لَنَا عَـٰبِدُونَ ۝٤٧

And they said, shall we believe on two men like unto our selves; whose people are our servants

faqālū anu'minu libasharayni mith'linā waqawmuhumā lanā ʿābidūn

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡلَكِینَ ۝٤٨

And they accused them of imposture: Wherefore they became of the number of those who were destroyed

fakadhabūhumā fakānū mina l-muh'lakīn

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَهۡتَدُونَ ۝٤٩

And We heretofore gave the book of the law unto Moses, that the children of Israel might be directed thereby

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba laʿallahum yahtadūn

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱبۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥۤ ءَایَةࣰ وَءَاوَیۡنَـٰهُمَاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبۡوَةࣲ ذَاتِ قَرَارࣲ وَمَعِینࣲ ۝٥٠

And We appointed the son of Mary, and his mother, for a sign: And We prepared an abode for them in an elevated part of the earth, being a place of quiet and security, and watered with running springs

wajaʿalnā ib'na maryama wa-ummahu āyatan waāwaynāhumā ilā rabwatin dhāti qarārin wamaʿīni

4 Higher Values of Life

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ وَٱعۡمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّی بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٥١

O apostles eat of those things which are good; and work righteousness: for I well know that which ye do

yāayyuhā l-rusulu kulū mina l-ṭayibāti wa-iʿ'malū ṣāliḥan innī bimā taʿmalūna ʿalīmu

وَإِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦۤ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱتَّقُونِ ۝٥٢

This your religion is one religion; and I am your Lord: Wherefore fear Me

wa-inna hādhihi ummatukum ummatan wāḥidatan wa-anā rabbukum fa-ittaqūn

فَتَقَطَّعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَهُم بَیۡنَهُمۡ زُبُرࣰاۖ كُلُّ حِزۡبِۭ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٥٣

But men have rent the affair of their religion into various sects: Every party rejoiceth in that which they follow

fataqaṭṭaʿū amrahum baynahum zuburan kullu ḥiz'bin bimā ladayhim fariḥūn

فَذَرۡهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَتِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینٍ ۝٥٤

Wherefore leave them in their confusion, until a certain time

fadharhum fī ghamratihim ḥattā ḥīni

أَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالࣲ وَبَنِینَ ۝٥٥

Do they think that We hasten unto them the wealth and children, which We have abundantly bestowed on them

ayaḥsabūna annamā numidduhum bihi min mālin wabanīn

نُسَارِعُ لَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِۚ بَل لَّا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٥٦

for their good? But they do not understand

nusāriʿu lahum fī l-khayrāti bal lā yashʿurūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ هُم مِّنۡ خَشۡیَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ ۝٥٧

Verily they who stand in awe, for fear of their Lord

inna alladhīna hum min khashyati rabbihim mush'fiqūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٨

and who believe in the signs of their Lord

wa-alladhīna hum biāyāti rabbihim yu'minūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ لَا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٥٩

and who attribute not companions unto their Lord

wa-alladhīna hum birabbihim lā yush'rikūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡتُونَ مَاۤ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمۡ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ رَ ٰجِعُونَ ۝٦٠

and who give that which they give in alms, their hearts being struck with dread, for that they must return unto their Lord

wa-alladhīna yu'tūna mā ātaw waqulūbuhum wajilatun annahum ilā rabbihim rājiʿūn

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِ وَهُمۡ لَهَا سَـٰبِقُونَ ۝٦١

These hasten unto good, and are foremost to obtain the same

ulāika yusāriʿūna fī l-khayrāti wahum lahā sābiqūn

وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۚ وَلَدَیۡنَا كِتَـٰبࣱ یَنطِقُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٢

We will not impose any difficulty on a soul, except according to its ability; with us is a book, which speaketh the truth; and they shall not be injured

walā nukallifu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā waladaynā kitābun yanṭiqu bil-ḥaqi wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

بَلۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلࣱ مِّن دُونِ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُمۡ لَهَا عَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٦٣

But their hearts are drowned in negligence, as to this matter; and they have works different from those We have mentioned; which they will continue to do, until

bal qulūbuhum fī ghamratin min hādhā walahum aʿmālun min dūni dhālika hum lahā ʿāmilūn

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَخَذۡنَا مُتۡرَفِیهِم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمۡ یَجۡءَرُونَ ۝٦٤

when We chastise such of them as enjoy an affluence of fortune, by a severe punishment, behold, they cry aloud for help

ḥattā idhā akhadhnā mut'rafīhim bil-ʿadhābi idhā hum yajarūn

لَا تَجۡءَرُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ ۝٦٥

But it shall be answered them, cry not for help to day: For ye shall not be assisted by Us

lā tajarū l-yawma innakum minnā lā tunṣarūn

قَدۡ كَانَتۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡقَـٰبِكُمۡ تَنكِصُونَ ۝٦٦

My signs were read unto you, but ye turned back on your heels

qad kānat āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum ʿalā aʿqābikum tankiṣūn

مُسۡتَكۡبِرِینَ بِهِۦ سَـٰمِرࣰا تَهۡجُرُونَ ۝٦٧

Proudly elating your selves because of your possessing the holy temple; discoursing together by night, and talking foolishly

mus'takbirīna bihi sāmiran tahjurūn

أَفَلَمۡ یَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ أَمۡ جَاۤءَهُم مَّا لَمۡ یَأۡتِ ءَابَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٦٨

Do they not therefore attentively consider that which is spoken unto them; whether a revelation is come unto them which came not unto their forefathers

afalam yaddabbarū l-qawla am jāahum mā lam yati ābāahumu l-awalīn

أَمۡ لَمۡ یَعۡرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ ۝٦٩

Or do they not know their apostle; and therefore reject him

am lam yaʿrifū rasūlahum fahum lahu munkirūn

أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةُۢۚ بَلۡ جَاۤءَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لِلۡحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٧٠

Or do they say, he is a madman? Nay, he hath come unto them with the truth; but the greater part of them detest the truth

am yaqūlūna bihi jinnatun bal jāahum bil-ḥaqi wa-aktharuhum lil'ḥaqqi kārihūn

وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهِنَّۚ بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِذِكۡرِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٧١

If the truth had followed their desires, verily the heavens and the earth, and whoever therein is, had been corrupted. But We have brought them their admonition; and they turn aside from their admonition

walawi ittabaʿa l-ḥaqu ahwāahum lafasadati l-samāwātu wal-arḍu waman fīhinna bal ataynāhum bidhik'rihim fahum ʿan dhik'rihim muʿ'riḍūn

أَمۡ تَسۡءَلُهُمۡ خَرۡجࣰا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَیۡرࣱۖ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٧٢

Dost thou ask of them any maintenance for thy preaching? Since the maintenance of thy Lord is better; for He is the most bounteous provider

am tasaluhum kharjan fakharāju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru l-rāziqīn

وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٧٣

Thou certainly invitest them to the right way

wa-innaka latadʿūhum ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطِ لَنَـٰكِبُونَ ۝٧٤

And they who believe not in the life to come, do surely deviate from that way

wa-inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati ʿani l-ṣirāṭi lanākibūn

۞ وَلَوۡ رَحِمۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرࣲّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝٧٥

If we had had compassion on them, and had taken off from them the calamity which had befallen them, they would surely have more obstinately persisted in their error, wandering in confusion

walaw raḥim'nāhum wakashafnā mā bihim min ḍurrin lalajjū fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسۡتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَمَا یَتَضَرَّعُونَ ۝٧٦

We formerly chastised them with a punishment: Yet they did not humble themselves before their Lord, neither did they make supplications unto Him

walaqad akhadhnāhum bil-ʿadhābi famā is'takānū lirabbihim wamā yataḍarraʿūn

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَابࣰا ذَا عَذَابࣲ شَدِیدٍ إِذَا هُمۡ فِیهِ مُبۡلِسُونَ ۝٧٧

until, when We have opened upon them a door, from which a severe punishment hath issued, behold, they are driven to despair thereat

ḥattā idhā fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban dhā ʿadhābin shadīdin idhā hum fīhi mub'lisūn

5 Polytheism is self-condemned

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٨

It is God who hath created in you the senses of hearing and of sight, that ye may perceive our judgments, and hearts, that ye may seriously consider them: Yet how few of you give thanks

wahuwa alladhī ansha-a lakumu l-samʿa wal-abṣāra wal-afidata qalīlan mā tashkurūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی ذَرَأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٧٩

It is He who hath produced you in the earth; and before Him shall ye be assembled

wahuwa alladhī dhara-akum fī l-arḍi wa-ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُ وَلَهُ ٱخۡتِلَـٰفُ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٨٠

It is He who giveth life, and putteth to death; and to Him is to be attributed the vicissitude of night and day: Do ye not therefore understand

wahuwa alladhī yuḥ'yī wayumītu walahu ikh'tilāfu al-layli wal-nahāri afalā taʿqilūn

بَلۡ قَالُوا۟ مِثۡلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝٨١

But the unbelieving Meccans say as their predecessors said

bal qālū mith'la mā qāla l-awalūn

قَالُوۤا۟ أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝٨٢

They say, when we shall be dead, and shall have become dust and bones, shall we really be raised to life

qālū a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn

لَقَدۡ وُعِدۡنَا نَحۡنُ وَءَابَاۤؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبۡلُ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٨٣

We have already been threatened with this, and our fathers also heretofore: This is nothing but fables of the ancients

laqad wuʿid'nā naḥnu waābāunā hādhā min qablu in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awalīn

قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٤

Say, whose is the earth, and whoever therein is; if ye know

qul limani l-arḍu waman fīhā in kuntum taʿlamūn

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٨٥

They will answer, God's. Say, will ye not therefore consider

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tadhakkarūn

قُلۡ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ ٱلسَّبۡعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٨٦

Say, who is the Lord, of the seven heavens, and the Lord of the magnificent throne

qul man rabbu l-samāwāti l-sabʿi warabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٨٧

They will answer, they are God's. Say, will ye not therefore fear Him

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tattaqūn

قُلۡ مَنۢ بِیَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُوَ یُجِیرُ وَلَا یُجَارُ عَلَیۡهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٨

Say, in whose hand is the kingdom of all things; who protecteth whom He pleaseth, but is himself protected of none; if ye know

qul man biyadihi malakūtu kulli shayin wahuwa yujīru walā yujāru ʿalayhi in kuntum taʿlamūn

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسۡحَرُونَ ۝٨٩

They will answer, in God's. Say, how therefore are ye bewitched

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul fa-annā tus'ḥarūn

بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝٩٠

Yea, we have brought them the truth; and they are certainly liars in denying the same

bal ataynāhum bil-ḥaqi wa-innahum lakādhibūn

مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدࣲ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنۡ إِلَـٰهٍۚ إِذࣰا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَـٰهِۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩١

God hath not begotten issue; neither is there any other god with Him: Otherwise every god had surely taken away that which He had created; and some of them had exalted themselves above the others. Far be that from God, which they affirm of Him

mā ittakhadha l-lahu min waladin wamā kāna maʿahu min ilāhin idhan ladhahaba kullu ilāhin bimā khalaqa walaʿalā baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yaṣifūn

عَـٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٩٢

He knoweth that which is concealed, and that which is made public: Wherefore far be it from Him to have those sharers in his honour, which they attribute to Him

qul rabbi immā turiyannī mā yūʿadūn

6 Regrets of the Wicked

قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِیَنِّی مَا یُوعَدُونَ ۝٩٣

Say, O Lord, if thou wilt surely cause me to see the vengeance with which they have been threatened

Qul rabbi imma turiyannee ma yooAAadoona

رَبِّ فَلَا تَجۡعَلۡنِی فِی ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٩٤

O Lord, set me not among the ungodly people

rabbi falā tajʿalnī fī l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّرِیَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمۡ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝٩٥

For We are surely able to make thee to see that with which We have threatened them

wa-innā ʿalā an nuriyaka mā naʿiduhum laqādirūn

ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلسَّیِّئَةَۚ نَحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩٦

Turn aside evil with that which is better: We well know the calumnies which they utter against thee

id'faʿ bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu l-sayi-ata naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaṣifūn

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنۡ هَمَزَ ٰتِ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ ۝٩٧

And say, O Lord, I fly unto thee for refuge, against the suggestions of the devils

waqul rabbi aʿūdhu bika min hamazāti l-shayāṭīn

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن یَحۡضُرُونِ ۝٩٨

And I have recourse unto Thee, O Lord, to drive them away, that they be not present with me

wa-aʿūdhu bika rabbi an yaḥḍurūn

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرۡجِعُونِ ۝٩٩

The gainsaying of the unbelievers ceaseth not until, when death overtaketh any of them, he saith, O Lord, suffer me to return to life

ḥattā idhā jāa aḥadahumu l-mawtu qāla rabbi ir'jiʿūn

لَعَلِّیۤ أَعۡمَلُ صَـٰلِحࣰا فِیمَا تَرَكۡتُۚ كَلَّاۤۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَاۤىِٕلُهَاۖ وَمِن وَرَاۤىِٕهِم بَرۡزَخٌ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٠٠

that I may do that which is right; in professing the true faith which I have neglected. By no means. Verily these are the words which he shall speak: But behind them there shall be a bar, until the day of resurrection

laʿallī aʿmalu ṣāliḥan fīmā taraktu kallā innahā kalimatun huwa qāiluhā wamin warāihim barzakhun ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَلَاۤ أَنسَابَ بَیۡنَهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ وَلَا یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝١٠١

When therefore the trumpet shall be sounded, there shall be no relation between them which shall be regarded on that day; neither shall they ask assistance of each other

fa-idhā nufikha fī l-ṣūri falā ansāba baynahum yawma-idhin walā yatasāalūn

فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٠٢

They whose balances shall be heavy with good works shall be happy

faman thaqulat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فِی جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١٠٣

but they whose balances shall be light are those who shall lose their souls, and shall remain in hell for ever

waman khaffat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fī jahannama khālidūn

تَلۡفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمۡ فِیهَا كَـٰلِحُونَ ۝١٠٤

The fire shall scorch their faces, and they shall writhe their mouths therein for anguish

talfaḥu wujūhahumu l-nāru wahum fīhā kāliḥūn

أَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٠٥

and it shall be said unto them, Were not my signs rehearsed unto you; and did ye not charge them with falsehood

alam takun āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum bihā tukadhibūn

قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتۡ عَلَیۡنَا شِقۡوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوۡمࣰا ضَاۤلِّینَ ۝١٠٦

They shall answer, O LORD, our unhappiness prevailed over us, and we were people who sent astray

qālū rabbanā ghalabat ʿalaynā shiq'watunā wakunnā qawman ḍāllīn

رَبَّنَاۤ أَخۡرِجۡنَا مِنۡهَا فَإِنۡ عُدۡنَا فَإِنَّا ظَـٰلِمُونَ ۝١٠٧

O LORD, take us forth from this fire: if we return to our former wickedness, we shall surely be unjust

rabbanā akhrij'nā min'hā fa-in ʿud'nā fa-innā ẓālimūn

قَالَ ٱخۡسَءُوا۟ فِیهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ ۝١٠٨

God will say unto them, Be ye driven away with ignominy thereinto: and speak not unto me to deliver you

qāla ikh'saū fīhā walā tukallimūn

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡ عِبَادِی یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَاۤ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١٠٩

Verily there were a party of my servants, who said, O LORD, we believe: wherefore forgive us, and be merciful unto us; for thou art the best of those who show mercy

innahu kāna farīqun min ʿibādī yaqūlūna rabbanā āmannā fa-igh'fir lanā wa-ir'ḥamnā wa-anta khayru l-rāḥimīn

فَٱتَّخَذۡتُمُوهُمۡ سِخۡرِیًّا حَتَّىٰۤ أَنسَوۡكُمۡ ذِكۡرِی وَكُنتُم مِّنۡهُمۡ تَضۡحَكُونَ ۝١١٠

But ye received them with scoffs, so that they suffered you to forget my admonition, and ye laughed them to scorn

fa-ittakhadhtumūhum sikh'riyyan ḥattā ansawkum dhik'rī wakuntum min'hum taḍḥakūn

إِنِّی جَزَیۡتُهُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡفَاۤىِٕزُونَ ۝١١١

I have this day rewarded them, for that they suffered the injuries ye offered them with patience: verily they enjoy great felicity

innī jazaytuhumu l-yawma bimā ṣabarū annahum humu l-fāizūn

قَـٰلَ كَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ عَدَدَ سِنِینَ ۝١١٢

God will say, What number of years have ye continued on earth

qāla kam labith'tum fī l-arḍi ʿadada sinīn

قَالُوا۟ لَبِثۡنَا یَوۡمًا أَوۡ بَعۡضَ یَوۡمࣲ فَسۡءَلِ ٱلۡعَاۤدِّینَ ۝١١٣

They will answer, We have continued there a day, or part of a day: but ask those who keep account

qālū labith'nā yawman aw baʿḍa yawmin fasali l-ʿādīn

قَـٰلَ إِن لَّبِثۡتُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰاۖ لَّوۡ أَنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١١٤

God will say, Ye have tarried but a while, if ye knew it

qāla in labith'tum illā qalīlan law annakum kuntum taʿlamūn

أَفَحَسِبۡتُمۡ أَنَّمَا خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ عَبَثࣰا وَأَنَّكُمۡ إِلَیۡنَا لَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝١١٥

Did ye think that we had created you in sport, and that ye should not be brought again before us

afaḥasib'tum annamā khalaqnākum ʿabathan wa-annakum ilaynā lā tur'jaʿūn

فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡكَرِیمِ ۝١١٦

Wherefore let GOD be exalted, the King, the Truth! There is no GOD besides him, the LORD of the honourable throne

fataʿālā l-lahu l-maliku l-ḥaqu lā ilāha illā huwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-karīm

وَمَن یَدۡعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرۡهَـٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١١٧

Whoever together with the true GOD shall invoke another god, concerning whom he hath no demonstrative proof, shall surely be brought to an account for the same before his LORD. Verily the infidels shall not prosper

waman yadʿu maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara lā bur'hāna lahu bihi fa-innamā ḥisābuhu ʿinda rabbihi innahu lā yuf'liḥu l-kāfirūn

وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ وَٱرۡحَمۡ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١١٨

Say, O LORD, pardon, and show mercy; for thou art the best of those who show mercy

waqul rabbi igh'fir wa-ir'ḥam wa-anta khayru l-rāḥimīn
