The Believers — Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Translation

ثُمَّ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلنُّطۡفَةَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡعَلَقَةَ مُضۡغَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمُضۡغَةَ عِظَـٰمࣰا فَكَسَوۡنَا ٱلۡعِظَـٰمَ لَحۡمࣰا ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَـٰهُ خَلۡقًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ ۝١٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, We created a clot from seminal fluids. Then, We created tissue from the clot. Then, We created bones from tissue. Then, We clothed the bones with flesh. Again, We caused another creation to grow. So blessed be God, the Fairer of the ones who are creators!

thumma khalaqnā l-nuṭ'fata ʿalaqatan fakhalaqnā l-ʿalaqata muḍ'ghatan fakhalaqnā l-muḍ'ghata ʿiẓāman fakasawnā l-ʿiẓāma laḥman thumma anshanāhu khalqan ākhara fatabāraka l-lahu aḥsanu l-khāliqīn

23:15

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعۡدَ ذَ ٰلِكَ لَمَیِّتُونَ ۝١٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, truly, after that, you will die.

thumma innakum baʿda dhālika lamayyitūn

23:16

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ تُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, truly, you will be raised up on the Day of Resurrection.

thumma innakum yawma l-qiyāmati tub'ʿathūn

23:17

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعَ طَرَاۤىِٕقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلۡخَلۡقِ غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Certainly, We created above you seven tiers. We had not been ones who are heedless of the creation.

walaqad khalaqnā fawqakum sabʿa ṭarāiqa wamā kunnā ʿani l-khalqi ghāfilīn

23:18

وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءَۢ بِقَدَرࣲ فَأَسۡكَنَّـٰهُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابِۭ بِهِۦ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝١٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

We caused water to descend from heaven in measure and We ceased it to dwell in the earth. And We certainly are ones who have power to take away.

wa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan biqadarin fa-askannāhu fī l-arḍi wa-innā ʿalā dhahābin bihi laqādirūn

23:19

فَأَنشَأۡنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِیلࣲ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣲ لَّكُمۡ فِیهَا فَوَ ٰكِهُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝١٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And We caused to grow for you gardens of date palm trees and grapevines where there is much sweet fruit for you and you eat of it

fa-anshanā lakum bihi jannātin min nakhīlin wa-aʿnābin lakum fīhā fawākihu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

23:20

وَشَجَرَةࣰ تَخۡرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَیۡنَاۤءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهۡنِ وَصِبۡغࣲ لِّلۡءَاكِلِینَ ۝٢٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

and a tree that goes forth from Mount Sinai that bears oil and a seasoning for the ones who eat it.

washajaratan takhruju min ṭūri saynāa tanbutu bil-duh'ni waṣib'ghin lil'ākilīn

23:21

وَإِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ لَعِبۡرَةࣰۖ نُّسۡقِیكُم مِّمَّا فِی بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ كَثِیرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٢١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, truly, for you in the flocks there is a lesson. We satiate you with what is in their bellies. In them are many profits and of them you eat

wa-inna lakum fī l-anʿāmi laʿib'ratan nus'qīkum mimmā fī buṭūnihā walakum fīhā manāfiʿu kathīratun wamin'hā takulūn

23:22

وَعَلَیۡهَا وَعَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ تُحۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

and on them and on boats you are carried.

waʿalayhā waʿalā l-ful'ki tuḥ'malūn

23:23

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٢٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, certainly, We sent Noah to his folk. And he said: O my folk! Worship God! You have no other god but Him. Will you not, then, be Godfearing?

walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

23:24

فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُرِیدُ أَن یَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ مَّا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِیۤ ءَابَاۤىِٕنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

But said the Council who were ungrateful among his folk: This is nothing but a mortal like you. He wants to gain superiority over you. If God willed He would have caused angels to descend. We heard not such a thing from our fathers, the ancient ones.

faqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yurīdu an yatafaḍḍala ʿalaykum walaw shāa l-lahu la-anzala malāikatan mā samiʿ'nā bihādhā fī ābāinā l-awalīn

23:25

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلُۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةࣱ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٢٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He is nothing but a man in whom there is madness. So watch him for a while.

in huwa illā rajulun bihi jinnatun fatarabbaṣū bihi ḥattā ḥīni

23:26

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٢٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He said: My Lord! Help me because they denied me.

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

23:27

فَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ أَنِ ٱصۡنَعِ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ بِأَعۡیُنِنَا وَوَحۡیِنَا فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَمۡرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ فَٱسۡلُكۡ فِیهَا مِن كُلࣲّ زَوۡجَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ وَأَهۡلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبۡنِی فِی ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوۤا۟ إِنَّهُم مُّغۡرَقُونَ ۝٢٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

So We revealed to him: Craft thou the boat under Our eyes and by Our revelation. Then, when Our command drew near and the oven boiled, then, insert two pairs of each kind and thy people, but whomever against whom the saying has preceded. And address Me not for those who did wrong. Truly, they are ones who are drowned.

fa-awḥaynā ilayhi ani iṣ'naʿi l-ful'ka bi-aʿyuninā wawaḥyinā fa-idhā jāa amrunā wafāra l-tanūru fa-us'luk fīhā min kullin zawjayni ith'nayni wa-ahlaka illā man sabaqa ʿalayhi l-qawlu min'hum walā tukhāṭib'nī fī alladhīna ẓalamū innahum mugh'raqūn

23:28

فَإِذَا ٱسۡتَوَیۡتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ فَقُلِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

When thou and whoever is with thee art seated in the boat, then, say: All Praise belongs to God Who delivered us from the folk, the ones who are unjust.

fa-idhā is'tawayta anta waman maʿaka ʿalā l-ful'ki faquli l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī najjānā mina l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:29

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلۡنِی مُنزَلࣰا مُّبَارَكࣰا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡمُنزِلِینَ ۝٢٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And say: My Lord! Land Thou me with a blessed landing for Thou art Best of the landing-places.

waqul rabbi anzil'nī munzalan mubārakan wa-anta khayru l-munzilīn

23:30

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبۡتَلِینَ ۝٣٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, in this there are signs and, truly, We had been ones who test.

inna fī dhālika laāyātin wa-in kunnā lamub'talīn

23:31

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٣١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, We caused to grow another generation after them.

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qarnan ākharīn

23:32

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا فِیهِمۡ رَسُولࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٣٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

We sent a Messenger to them from among them saying that: Worship God! You have no god other than Him. Will you, then, not be Godfearing?

fa-arsalnā fīhim rasūlan min'hum ani uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

23:33

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَاۤءِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَتۡرَفۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا مَا هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یَأۡكُلُ مِمَّا تَأۡكُلُونَ مِنۡهُ وَیَشۡرَبُ مِمَّا تَشۡرَبُونَ ۝٣٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And said the Council of his folk to those who were ungrateful and denied the meeting in the world to come, and to whom We gave ease in this present life: This is nothing but a mortal like you. He eats of what you eat and he drinks of what you drink.

waqāla l-mala-u min qawmihi alladhīna kafarū wakadhabū biliqāi l-ākhirati wa-atrafnāhum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā mā hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum yakulu mimmā takulūna min'hu wayashrabu mimmā tashrabūn

23:34

وَلَىِٕنۡ أَطَعۡتُم بَشَرࣰا مِّثۡلَكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٣٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if you obeyed a mortal like yourselves, truly, then, you are ones who are losers.

wala-in aṭaʿtum basharan mith'lakum innakum idhan lakhāsirūn

23:35

أَیَعِدُكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ إِذَا مِتُّمۡ وَكُنتُمۡ تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخۡرَجُونَ ۝٣٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Promises He that when you died and had been earth dust and bones, that you will be ones who are brought out?

ayaʿidukum annakum idhā mittum wakuntum turāban waʿiẓāman annakum mukh'rajūn

23:36

۞ هَیۡهَاتَ هَیۡهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ ۝٣٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Begone! Begone with what you are promised!

hayhāta hayhāta limā tūʿadūn

23:37

إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا حَیَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡیَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡیَا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَبۡعُوثِینَ ۝٣٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

There is nothing but this present life. We die and we live and we shall not be ones who are raised up.

in hiya illā ḥayātunā l-dun'yā namūtu wanaḥyā wamā naḥnu bimabʿūthīn

23:38

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا وَمَا نَحۡنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٣٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He is nothing but a man. He devised a lie against God and we are not ones who will believe in him.

in huwa illā rajulun if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban wamā naḥnu lahu bimu'minīn

23:39

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِی بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ۝٣٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He said: My Lord! Help me because they denied me.

qāla rabbi unṣur'nī bimā kadhabūn

23:40

قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِیلࣲ لَّیُصۡبِحُنَّ نَـٰدِمِینَ ۝٤٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He said: In a little while they will become ones who are remorseful.

qāla ʿammā qalīlin layuṣ'biḥunna nādimīn

23:41

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ غُثَاۤءࣰۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Then, a Cry duly took them so We made them into refuse. So away with the folk, the ones who are unjust!

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu bil-ḥaqi fajaʿalnāhum ghuthāan fabuʿ'dan lil'qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:42

ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٤٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, We caused to grow after them other generations.

thumma anshanā min baʿdihim qurūnan ākharīn

23:43

مَا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ ۝٤٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

No community precedes its term, nor delays it.

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūn

23:44

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتۡرَاۖ كُلَّ مَا جَاۤءَ أُمَّةࣰ رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُۖ فَأَتۡبَعۡنَا بَعۡضَهُم بَعۡضࣰا وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَحَادِیثَۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّقَوۡمࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٤٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, We sent Our Messengers one after another. Whenever drew near a community a Messenger to them, they denied him. So We caused some of them to pursue others and We made them tales. So away with the folk who believe not!

thumma arsalnā rusulanā tatrā kulla mā jāa ummatan rasūluhā kadhabūhu fa-atbaʿnā baʿḍahum baʿḍan wajaʿalnāhum aḥādītha fabuʿ'dan liqawmin lā yu'minūn

23:45

ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٤٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Again, We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority

thumma arsalnā mūsā wa-akhāhu hārūna biāyātinā wasul'ṭānin mubīni

23:46

إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمًا عَالِینَ ۝٤٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

to Pharaoh and his Council. Then, they grew arrogant and they had been a folk, ones who exalt themselves.

ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi fa-is'takbarū wakānū qawman ʿālīn

23:47

فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لِبَشَرَیۡنِ مِثۡلِنَا وَقَوۡمُهُمَا لَنَا عَـٰبِدُونَ ۝٤٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Then, they said: Will we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their folk are ones who worship us?

faqālū anu'minu libasharayni mith'linā waqawmuhumā lanā ʿābidūn

23:48

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡلَكِینَ ۝٤٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

So they denied both of them. They had been among the ones who are caused to perish.

fakadhabūhumā fakānū mina l-muh'lakīn

23:49

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَهۡتَدُونَ ۝٤٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, certainly, We gave Moses the Book so that perhaps they will be truly guided.

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba laʿallahum yahtadūn

23:50

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱبۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥۤ ءَایَةࣰ وَءَاوَیۡنَـٰهُمَاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبۡوَةࣲ ذَاتِ قَرَارࣲ وَمَعِینࣲ ۝٥٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and We gave them refuge on a hillside, a stopping place, and a spring of water.

wajaʿalnā ib'na maryama wa-ummahu āyatan waāwaynāhumā ilā rabwatin dhāti qarārin wamaʿīni

23:51

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ وَٱعۡمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّی بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٥١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

O you Messengers! Eat of what is good and do as one in accord with morality. Truly, I am Knowing of what you do.

yāayyuhā l-rusulu kulū mina l-ṭayibāti wa-iʿ'malū ṣāliḥan innī bimā taʿmalūna ʿalīmu

23:52

وَإِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦۤ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱتَّقُونِ ۝٥٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, truly, this, your community is one community and I am your Lord so be Godfearing.

wa-inna hādhihi ummatukum ummatan wāḥidatan wa-anā rabbukum fa-ittaqūn

23:53

فَتَقَطَّعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَهُم بَیۡنَهُمۡ زُبُرࣰاۖ كُلُّ حِزۡبِۭ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٥٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Then, they cut their affair of unity asunder into sects among them, each party glad with what was with them.

fataqaṭṭaʿū amrahum baynahum zuburan kullu ḥiz'bin bimā ladayhim fariḥūn

23:54

فَذَرۡهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَتِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینٍ ۝٥٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

So forsake thou them for a while in their obstinacy.

fadharhum fī ghamratihim ḥattā ḥīni

23:55

أَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالࣲ وَبَنِینَ ۝٥٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Assume they that with the relief We furnish them of wealth and children

ayaḥsabūna annamā numidduhum bihi min mālin wabanīn

23:56

نُسَارِعُ لَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِۚ بَل لَّا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٥٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

We compete for good deeds for them? Nay! They are not aware.

nusāriʿu lahum fī l-khayrāti bal lā yashʿurūn

23:57

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ هُم مِّنۡ خَشۡیَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ ۝٥٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, those, they are dreading their Lord, ones who are apprehensive.

inna alladhīna hum min khashyati rabbihim mush'fiqūn

23:58

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And those, they who believe in the signs of their Lord

wa-alladhīna hum biāyāti rabbihim yu'minūn

23:59

وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ لَا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٥٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

and those, they who ascribe nothing as partners with their Lord,

wa-alladhīna hum birabbihim lā yush'rikūn

23:60

وَٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡتُونَ مَاۤ ءَاتَوا۟ وَّقُلُوبُهُمۡ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ رَ ٰجِعُونَ ۝٦٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

and those who give what they gave with their hearts afraid because they are ones who will return to their Lord,

wa-alladhīna yu'tūna mā ātaw waqulūbuhum wajilatun annahum ilā rabbihim rājiʿūn

23:61

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِ وَهُمۡ لَهَا سَـٰبِقُونَ ۝٦١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

are those who compete with one another in good deeds and they, in them, are ones who take the lead.

ulāika yusāriʿūna fī l-khayrāti wahum lahā sābiqūn

23:62

وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۚ وَلَدَیۡنَا كِتَـٰبࣱ یَنطِقُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And We place not a burden on any soul but to its capacity. And from Us is a Book that speaks The Truth for itself. And they will not be wronged.

walā nukallifu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā waladaynā kitābun yanṭiqu bil-ḥaqi wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

23:63

بَلۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡمَـٰلࣱ مِّن دُونِ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُمۡ لَهَا عَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٦٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Nay! Their hearts are in obstinacy towards this Quran and they have other actions besides as they are ones who act

bal qulūbuhum fī ghamratin min hādhā walahum aʿmālun min dūni dhālika hum lahā ʿāmilūn

23:64

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَخَذۡنَا مُتۡرَفِیهِم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمۡ یَجۡءَرُونَ ۝٦٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

until, when We took ones who are given ease with the punishment. That is when they make entreaties.

ḥattā idhā akhadhnā mut'rafīhim bil-ʿadhābi idhā hum yajarūn

23:65

لَا تَجۡءَرُوا۟ ٱلۡیَوۡمَۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ ۝٦٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Make not entreaties this Day. Truly, you will not be helped from Us.

lā tajarū l-yawma innakum minnā lā tunṣarūn

23:66

قَدۡ كَانَتۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡقَـٰبِكُمۡ تَنكِصُونَ ۝٦٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Surely, My signs had been recounted to you, but you had been receding on your heels

qad kānat āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum ʿalā aʿqābikum tankiṣūn

23:67

مُسۡتَكۡبِرِینَ بِهِۦ سَـٰمِرࣰا تَهۡجُرُونَ ۝٦٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

as ones who grow arrogant regarding it and ones who nightly talk nonsense, talking foolishly.

mus'takbirīna bihi sāmiran tahjurūn

23:68

أَفَلَمۡ یَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ أَمۡ جَاۤءَهُم مَّا لَمۡ یَأۡتِ ءَابَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٦٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Meditate they not on the saying or drew not near them anything that approaches not their fathers, the ancient ones?

afalam yaddabbarū l-qawla am jāahum mā lam yati ābāahumu l-awalīn

23:69

أَمۡ لَمۡ یَعۡرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ ۝٦٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Or is it they recognize not their Messenger so that they are ones who reject him?

am lam yaʿrifū rasūlahum fahum lahu munkirūn

23:70

أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةُۢۚ بَلۡ جَاۤءَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لِلۡحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٧٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Or say they: There is madness in him? Nay! He drew near them with The Truth, but most of them are ones who dislike The Truth.

am yaqūlūna bihi jinnatun bal jāahum bil-ḥaqi wa-aktharuhum lil'ḥaqqi kārihūn

23:71

وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهِنَّۚ بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِذِكۡرِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٧١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And if The Truth followed their desires, the heavens and the earth would have gone to ruin and whoever is in it. Nay! We brought them their Remembrance, but they, from their Remembrance, are ones who turn aside.

walawi ittabaʿa l-ḥaqu ahwāahum lafasadati l-samāwātu wal-arḍu waman fīhinna bal ataynāhum bidhik'rihim fahum ʿan dhik'rihim muʿ'riḍūn

23:72

أَمۡ تَسۡءَلُهُمۡ خَرۡجࣰا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَیۡرࣱۖ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٧٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Or is it that thou hast asked them for payment? Yet the revenue from thy Lord is better. And He is Best of the ones who provide.

am tasaluhum kharjan fakharāju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru l-rāziqīn

23:73

وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٧٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, truly, thou hast called them to a straight path.

wa-innaka latadʿūhum ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

23:74

وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَ ٰطِ لَنَـٰكِبُونَ ۝٧٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, truly, those who believe not in the world to come are ones who move away from the path.

wa-inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati ʿani l-ṣirāṭi lanākibūn

23:75

۞ وَلَوۡ رَحِمۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرࣲّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝٧٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And even if We had mercy on them and removed the harm which is on them, they would still be resolute in their defiance, wandering unwilling to see.

walaw raḥim'nāhum wakashafnā mā bihim min ḍurrin lalajjū fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

23:76

وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسۡتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَمَا یَتَضَرَّعُونَ ۝٧٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, certainly, We took them with the punishment. Then, they gave not into their Lord nor lower themselves

walaqad akhadhnāhum bil-ʿadhābi famā is'takānū lirabbihim wamā yataḍarraʿūn

23:77

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَابࣰا ذَا عَذَابࣲ شَدِیدٍ إِذَا هُمۡ فِیهِ مُبۡلِسُونَ ۝٧٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

until, when we opened a door for them of a severe punishment. That is when they were ones who are seized with despair!

ḥattā idhā fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban dhā ʿadhābin shadīdin idhā hum fīhi mub'lisūn

23:78

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَۚ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And He it is Who caused you to grow, have the ability to hear and sight and mind. But you give little thanks!

wahuwa alladhī ansha-a lakumu l-samʿa wal-abṣāra wal-afidata qalīlan mā tashkurūn

23:79

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی ذَرَأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٧٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

It is He Who made you numerous on the earth and to Him you will be assembled.

wahuwa alladhī dhara-akum fī l-arḍi wa-ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn

23:80

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُ وَلَهُ ٱخۡتِلَـٰفُ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٨٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And it is He Who gives life and causes to die and His is the alteration of nighttime and daytime. Will you not, then, be reasonable?

wahuwa alladhī yuḥ'yī wayumītu walahu ikh'tilāfu al-layli wal-nahāri afalā taʿqilūn

23:81

بَلۡ قَالُوا۟ مِثۡلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝٨١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Nay! They said the like of what the ancient ones said.

bal qālū mith'la mā qāla l-awalūn

23:82

قَالُوۤا۟ أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝٨٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They said: When we are dead and had been earth dust and bones, will we be ones who are raised up?

qālū a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn

23:83

لَقَدۡ وُعِدۡنَا نَحۡنُ وَءَابَاۤؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبۡلُ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٨٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Certainly, we were promised this—we and our fathers—before this. This is nothing but the fables of the ancient ones.

laqad wuʿid'nā naḥnu waābāunā hādhā min qablu in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awalīn

23:84

قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِیهَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Say: To whom belongs the earth and whoever is in it if you had been knowing?

qul limani l-arḍu waman fīhā in kuntum taʿlamūn

23:85

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٨٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They will say: To God! Say: Then, will you not recollect?

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tadhakkarūn

23:86

قُلۡ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ ٱلسَّبۡعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٨٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Say: Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Sublime Throne?

qul man rabbu l-samāwāti l-sabʿi warabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm

23:87

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٨٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They will say: It belongs to God! Say: Then, will you not be Godfearing?

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul afalā tattaqūn

23:88

قُلۡ مَنۢ بِیَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُوَ یُجِیرُ وَلَا یُجَارُ عَلَیۡهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Say: In whose hand is the kingdom of everything and He grants protection? No one is granted protection against Him if you had been knowing.

qul man biyadihi malakūtu kulli shayin wahuwa yujīru walā yujāru ʿalayhi in kuntum taʿlamūn

23:89

سَیَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسۡحَرُونَ ۝٨٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They will say: It belongs to God! Say: How, then, are you under a spell!

sayaqūlūna lillahi qul fa-annā tus'ḥarūn

23:90

بَلۡ أَتَیۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝٩٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Nay! We brought them The Truth and, truly, they are ones who lie.

bal ataynāhum bil-ḥaqi wa-innahum lakādhibūn

23:91

مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدࣲ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنۡ إِلَـٰهٍۚ إِذࣰا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَـٰهِۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

God took not to Himself any son, nor had there been any god with Him. For, then, each god would have taken away what he created. And some of them would have ascended over some others. Glory be to God above all that they allege!

mā ittakhadha l-lahu min waladin wamā kāna maʿahu min ilāhin idhan ladhahaba kullu ilāhin bimā khalaqa walaʿalā baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yaṣifūn

23:92

عَـٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٩٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He is the One Who Knows the unseen and the visible. Exalted be He above partners they ascribe.

qul rabbi immā turiyannī mā yūʿadūn

23:93

قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِیَنِّی مَا یُوعَدُونَ ۝٩٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Say: My Lord! If Thou wilt cause me to see what they are promised,

Qul rabbi imma turiyannee ma yooAAadoona

23:94

رَبِّ فَلَا تَجۡعَلۡنِی فِی ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٩٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

then, assign me not, my Lord, to the folk, the ones who are unjust.

rabbi falā tajʿalnī fī l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

23:95

وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّرِیَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمۡ لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝٩٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And, truly, We cause thee to see what We promise them as certainly ones who have power.

wa-innā ʿalā an nuriyaka mā naʿiduhum laqādirūn

23:96

ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلسَّیِّئَةَۚ نَحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَصِفُونَ ۝٩٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Drive thou back evil deeds with what is fairer. We are greater in knowledge of what they allege.

id'faʿ bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu l-sayi-ata naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaṣifūn

23:97

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنۡ هَمَزَ ٰتِ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ ۝٩٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And say: My Lord! I take refuge with Thee from the evil suggestions of the satans.

waqul rabbi aʿūdhu bika min hamazāti l-shayāṭīn

23:98

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن یَحۡضُرُونِ ۝٩٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And my Lord, I take refuge with Thee so that they not attend me.

wa-aʿūdhu bika rabbi an yaḥḍurūn

23:99

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرۡجِعُونِ ۝٩٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Until when death drew near one of them, he said: My Lord! Return me

ḥattā idhā jāa aḥadahumu l-mawtu qāla rabbi ir'jiʿūn

23:100

لَعَلِّیۤ أَعۡمَلُ صَـٰلِحࣰا فِیمَا تَرَكۡتُۚ كَلَّاۤۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَاۤىِٕلُهَاۖ وَمِن وَرَاۤىِٕهِم بَرۡزَخٌ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٠٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

so that perhaps I will do as one in accord with morality in what I left behind. No indeed! Truly, it is only a word that one who converses says. And ahead of them is a barrier until the Day they are raised up.

laʿallī aʿmalu ṣāliḥan fīmā taraktu kallā innahā kalimatun huwa qāiluhā wamin warāihim barzakhun ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

23:101

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَلَاۤ أَنسَابَ بَیۡنَهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ وَلَا یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝١٠١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

When the trumpet will be blown, there will be no talk of kindred among them that Day nor will they demand anything of one another.

fa-idhā nufikha fī l-ṣūri falā ansāba baynahum yawma-idhin walā yatasāalūn

23:102

فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٠٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Then, whose balance was heavy with good deeds, those, they are the ones who prosper.

faman thaqulat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

23:103

وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فِی جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١٠٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And among ones whose balance was made light, then, those are those who lost themselves. They will be ones who will dwell in hell forever.

waman khaffat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fī jahannama khālidūn

23:104

تَلۡفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمۡ فِیهَا كَـٰلِحُونَ ۝١٠٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Their faces will fry in the fire. And they will be ones who are morose in it.

talfaḥu wujūhahumu l-nāru wahum fīhā kāliḥūn

23:105

أَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَایَـٰتِی تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٠٥

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Be not My signs recounted to you, yet you had been denying them?

alam takun āyātī tut'lā ʿalaykum fakuntum bihā tukadhibūn

23:106

قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتۡ عَلَیۡنَا شِقۡوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوۡمࣰا ضَاۤلِّینَ ۝١٠٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They will say: Our Lord! Our misgiving prevailed over us. We had been a folk, ones who go astray.

qālū rabbanā ghalabat ʿalaynā shiq'watunā wakunnā qawman ḍāllīn

23:107

رَبَّنَاۤ أَخۡرِجۡنَا مِنۡهَا فَإِنۡ عُدۡنَا فَإِنَّا ظَـٰلِمُونَ ۝١٠٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Our Lord! Bring us out of this. Then, if ever we reverted, truly, we will be ones who are unjust.

rabbanā akhrij'nā min'hā fa-in ʿud'nā fa-innā ẓālimūn

23:108

قَالَ ٱخۡسَءُوا۟ فِیهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ ۝١٠٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He would say: Be driven away in it and speak not to Me.

qāla ikh'saū fīhā walā tukallimūn

23:109

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡ عِبَادِی یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَاۤ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١٠٩

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, there had been a group of people of My servants who say: Our Lord! We believed, so forgive us and have mercy on us for Thou art Best of the ones who are most merciful.

innahu kāna farīqun min ʿibādī yaqūlūna rabbanā āmannā fa-igh'fir lanā wa-ir'ḥamnā wa-anta khayru l-rāḥimīn

23:110

فَٱتَّخَذۡتُمُوهُمۡ سِخۡرِیًّا حَتَّىٰۤ أَنسَوۡكُمۡ ذِكۡرِی وَكُنتُم مِّنۡهُمۡ تَضۡحَكُونَ ۝١١٠

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

But you took them to yourselves as a laughing-stock until they caused you to forget My Remembrance and you had been laughing at them.

fa-ittakhadhtumūhum sikh'riyyan ḥattā ansawkum dhik'rī wakuntum min'hum taḍḥakūn

23:111

إِنِّی جَزَیۡتُهُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡفَاۤىِٕزُونَ ۝١١١

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

Truly, I gave recompense this Day for what they endured patiently. Truly, they, they are the ones who are victorious!

innī jazaytuhumu l-yawma bimā ṣabarū annahum humu l-fāizūn

23:112

قَـٰلَ كَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ عَدَدَ سِنِینَ ۝١١٢

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He said: Lingered you in expectation on the earth for what number of years?

qāla kam labith'tum fī l-arḍi ʿadada sinīn

23:113

قَالُوا۟ لَبِثۡنَا یَوۡمًا أَوۡ بَعۡضَ یَوۡمࣲ فَسۡءَلِ ٱلۡعَاۤدِّینَ ۝١١٣

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

They said: We lingered in expectation a day or some of a day. So ask the ones who count.

qālū labith'nā yawman aw baʿḍa yawmin fasali l-ʿādīn

23:114

قَـٰلَ إِن لَّبِثۡتُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰاۖ لَّوۡ أَنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١١٤

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

He said: You lingered in expectation not but a little. If you had but been knowing.

qāla in labith'tum illā qalīlan law annakum kuntum taʿlamūn

23:115

أَفَحَسِبۡتُمۡ أَنَّمَا خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ عَبَثࣰا وَأَنَّكُمۡ إِلَیۡنَا لَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝١١٥

Assumed you that We created you in amusement and that to Us you would not be returned?

afaḥasib'tum annamā khalaqnākum ʿabathan wa-annakum ilaynā lā tur'jaʿūn

23:116

فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡكَرِیمِ ۝١١٦

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

So exalted be God! The King, The Truth. There is no god but He, the Lord of the Generous Throne!

fataʿālā l-lahu l-maliku l-ḥaqu lā ilāha illā huwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-karīm

23:117

وَمَن یَدۡعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرۡهَـٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١١٧

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And whoever calls to another god with God of which he has no proof, then, truly, his reckoning is with his Lord. Truly, the ones who are ungrateful will not prosper.

waman yadʿu maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara lā bur'hāna lahu bihi fa-innamā ḥisābuhu ʿinda rabbihi innahu lā yuf'liḥu l-kāfirūn

23:118

وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ وَٱرۡحَمۡ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١١٨

Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar

And say: My Lord! Forgive and have mercy and Thou art Best of the ones who are most merciful.

waqul rabbi igh'fir wa-ir'ḥam wa-anta khayru l-rāḥimīn
