The Letter Qaf — Dr Munir Munshey Translation

In fact, they are surprised because one of their own, (a mortal like themselves), came to them as a warner. The unbelievers said, "That is really odd!"

bal ʿajibū an jāahum mundhirun min'hum faqāla l-kāfirūna hādhā shayon ʿajību

50:3

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰاۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ رَجۡعُۢ بَعِیدࣱ ۝٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

"(Would we live again) after we die and become dust? Such a return (to life) is far-fetched, (a fantasy)!"

a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban dhālika rajʿun baʿīdu

50:4

قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِیظُۢ ۝٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

(Really)? We know very well everything that the earth consumes from their (dead decomposing) bodies. With Us is the book that (records and) preserves (every event)

qad ʿalim'nā mā tanquṣu l-arḍu min'hum waʿindanā kitābun ḥafīẓu

50:5

بَلۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِیۤ أَمۡرࣲ مَّرِیجٍ ۝٥

Dr. Munir Munshey

No! In fact they rejected the truth (about the hereafter) just as soon as it came to them. So now they are perturbed and perplexed

bal kadhabū bil-ḥaqi lammā jāahum fahum fī amrin marīji

50:6

أَفَلَمۡ یَنظُرُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَیۡفَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجࣲ ۝٦

Dr. Munir Munshey

(Isn´t life after death likely)? Did they not ever look at the sky above them? (Did they not wonder) how We made and adorned it? Lapses it does lack; it is free of flaws

afalam yanẓurū ilā l-samāi fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wazayyannāhā wamā lahā min furūji

50:7

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِیجࣲ ۝٧

Dr. Munir Munshey

And (what about) the earth? We laid out the earth, placed mountains firmly upon it, and caused all sorts of delightful plant life to proliferate on it

wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin bahīji

50:8

تَبۡصِرَةࣰ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِیبࣲ ۝٨

Dr. Munir Munshey

These are the (clues), insights and reminders for every human being, anyone turning (to Allah) in repentance

tabṣiratan wadhik'rā likulli ʿabdin munībi

50:9

وَنَزَّلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ مُّبَـٰرَكࣰا فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَحَبَّ ٱلۡحَصِیدِ ۝٩

Dr. Munir Munshey

From the sky We sent down the water as (Our) blessing; and with it, We produced the gardens and the harvested grain

wanazzalnā mina l-samāi māan mubārakan fa-anbatnā bihi jannātin waḥabba l-ḥaṣīd

50:10

وَٱلنَّخۡلَ بَاسِقَـٰتࣲ لَّهَا طَلۡعࣱ نَّضِیدࣱ ۝١٠

Dr. Munir Munshey

As also the tall date trees with their densely clustered dates

wal-nakhla bāsiqātin lahā ṭalʿun naḍīdu

50:11

رِّزۡقࣰا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ ۝١١

Dr. Munir Munshey

(Such is) the provision for My servants! With that water, We bring the dead land back to life. The emergence (of the dead back to life) shall happen in much the same manner

riz'qan lil'ʿibādi wa-aḥyaynā bihi baldatan maytan kadhālika l-khurūj

50:12

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ ۝١٢

Dr. Munir Munshey

Prior to them, ( the present day unbelievers), the nation of Nooh, the people of ´Russ´, and ´Samood´ had rejected (life-after-death)

kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-aṣḥābu l-rasi wathamūd

50:13

وَعَادࣱ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُ لُوطࣲ ۝١٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

And ´Aads´, the pharaohs and the brethren of Loot

waʿādun wafir'ʿawnu wa-ikh'wānu lūṭi

50:14

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ وَقَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲۚ كُلࣱّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِیدِ ۝١٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

The people of ´Aikah´, and the nation of ´Tubbah´. Each of them rejected the messengers. So (My) threat became a reality

wa-aṣḥābu l-aykati waqawmu tubbaʿin kullun kadhaba l-rusula faḥaqqa waʿīd

50:15

أَفَعَیِینَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی لَبۡسࣲ مِّنۡ خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٥

Dr. Munir Munshey

Were We not capable of bringing this creation into being the first time? Yet, they are uncertain about the new creation, ( the revival of creation)

afaʿayīnā bil-khalqi l-awali bal hum fī labsin min khalqin jadīdi

50:16

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِیدِ ۝١٦

Dr. Munir Munshey

Indeed, We have created man, and (so) We are surely aware of every thought that crosses his mind. We are closer to him than his jugular vein

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna wanaʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli l-warīd

50:17

إِذۡ یَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّیَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِیدࣱ ۝١٧

Dr. Munir Munshey

(Remember)! The two sentries, (the two angels responsible for recording deeds), _ one sitting on the right (shoulder), the other on the left _ are receiving (and recording everything)

idh yatalaqqā l-mutalaqiyāni ʿani l-yamīni waʿani l-shimāli qaʿīdu

50:18

مَّا یَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَیۡهِ رَقِیبٌ عَتِیدࣱ ۝١٨

Dr. Munir Munshey

Not a word uttered by any person, escapes (the attention of) the vigilant observers _ (the angels assigned over him)

mā yalfiẓu min qawlin illā ladayhi raqībun ʿatīdu

50:19

وَجَاۤءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِیدُ ۝١٩

Dr. Munir Munshey

The agony (and stupor) of death will bring about the truth, "This is the very thing you used to avoid and evade"

wajāat sakratu l-mawti bil-ḥaqi dhālika mā kunta min'hu taḥīd

50:20

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٠

Dr. Munir Munshey

Then the trumpet shall sound, "This is the promised day _ (the day of reckoning)!"

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri dhālika yawmu l-waʿīd

50:21

وَجَاۤءَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّعَهَا سَاۤىِٕقࣱ وَشَهِیدࣱ ۝٢١

Dr. Munir Munshey

Every soul will arrive accompanied by (two angels), a guard and a witness

wajāat kullu nafsin maʿahā sāiqun washahīdu

50:22

لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَاۤءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ حَدِیدࣱ ۝٢٢

Dr. Munir Munshey

"You had certainly been unmindful of this! We have lifted the scales off your eyes. So, very sharp is your vision today!"

laqad kunta fī ghaflatin min hādhā fakashafnā ʿanka ghiṭāaka fabaṣaruka l-yawma ḥadīdu

50:23

وَقَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَیَّ عَتِیدٌ ۝٢٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

And his companion, (the escorting Angel) would declare, "This one under my custody (and his record of deeds) is ready."

waqāla qarīnuhu hādhā mā ladayya ʿatīdu

50:24

أَلۡقِیَا فِی جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِیدࣲ ۝٢٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

"Hurl every stubborn unbeliever into hell!"

alqiyā fī jahannama kulla kaffārin ʿanīdi

50:25

مَّنَّاعࣲ لِّلۡخَیۡرِ مُعۡتَدࣲ مُّرِیبٍ ۝٢٥

Dr. Munir Munshey

"The one who forbade the good, the transgressor, the skeptic."

mannāʿin lil'khayri muʿ'tadin murībi

50:26

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلۡقِیَاهُ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِیدِ ۝٢٦

Dr. Munir Munshey

"The one who assigned a god (for worship), besides Allah. So toss him into the toughest of torment!"

alladhī jaʿala maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fa-alqiyāhu fī l-ʿadhābi l-shadīd

50:27

۞ قَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَاۤ أَطۡغَیۡتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِی ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٢٧

Dr. Munir Munshey

His comrade, (the Shaitan) would submit, "Our Lord, I did not force him to transgress and rebel. He was wayward himself; quite far astray!"

qāla qarīnuhu rabbanā mā aṭghaytuhu walākin kāna fī ḍalālin baʿīdi

50:28

قَالَ لَا تَخۡتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَیَّ وَقَدۡ قَدَّمۡتُ إِلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٨

Dr. Munir Munshey

(Allah) will say, "Refrain from quarrelling in My presence. I had certainly warned you in advance."

qāla lā takhtaṣimū ladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bil-waʿīd

50:29

مَا یُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ لَدَیَّ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٢٩

Dr. Munir Munshey

"The sentence rendered by Me shall not be reversed. I am not (at all) cruel to My servants!"

mā yubaddalu l-qawlu ladayya wamā anā biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

50:30

یَوۡمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمۡتَلَأۡتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلۡ مِن مَّزِیدࣲ ۝٣٠

Dr. Munir Munshey

That day, We shall ask the hell, "Are you full?" It will reply, "Are there more?"

yawma naqūlu lijahannama hali im'talati wataqūlu hal min mazīdi

50:31

وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ غَیۡرَ بَعِیدٍ ۝٣١

Dr. Munir Munshey

The paradise would move closer to the righteous; wouldn´t be far (at all)

wa-uz'lifati l-janatu lil'muttaqīna ghayra baʿīdi

50:32

هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِیظࣲ ۝٣٢

Dr. Munir Munshey

"This (is the coveted prize) you had been pledged! (It is) for all those who always turn to Allah in sincere repentance and (grudgingly) guard (their covenant with Allah)."

hādhā mā tūʿadūna likulli awwābin ḥafīẓi

50:33

مَّنۡ خَشِیَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَجَاۤءَ بِقَلۡبࣲ مُّنِیبٍ ۝٣٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

(It is) for the one who feared (Allah), the most Merciful, the Unseen; (for the one who) returned to Him with a repentant heart

man khashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi wajāa biqalbin munībi

50:34

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمࣲۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُلُودِ ۝٣٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

"In peace (and bliss), enter the paradise! This is the day of eternity!"

ud'khulūhā bisalāmin dhālika yawmu l-khulūd

50:35

لَهُم مَّا یَشَاۤءُونَ فِیهَا وَلَدَیۡنَا مَزِیدࣱ ۝٣٥

Dr. Munir Munshey

There, they shall have anything they want; and yet We have more (for them)

lahum mā yashāūna fīhā waladaynā mazīdu

50:36

وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡنٍ هُمۡ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ هَلۡ مِن مَّحِیصٍ ۝٣٦

Dr. Munir Munshey

Many nations have We destroyed (for their sins) prior to them _ nations that were stronger, (more developed) and mightier. They penetrated (and colonized many) other lands. But did they find any place to escape

wakam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu min'hum baṭshan fanaqqabū fī l-bilādi hal min maḥīṣi

50:37

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَذِكۡرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلۡبٌ أَوۡ أَلۡقَى ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَهُوَ شَهِیدࣱ ۝٣٧

Dr. Munir Munshey

Indeed, there is a lesson in it for anyone who possesses a heart (that feels); anyone who listens attentively and applies his mind

inna fī dhālika ladhik'rā liman kāna lahu qalbun aw alqā l-samʿa wahuwa shahīdu

50:38

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبࣲ ۝٣٨

Dr. Munir Munshey

We have certainly created the heavens and the earth, and everything else between them, in six periods of time. And that did not wear Us out, the least bit

walaqad khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā fī sittati ayyāmin wamā massanā min lughūbi

50:39

فَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا یَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ قَبۡلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَقَبۡلَ ٱلۡغُرُوبِ ۝٣٩

Dr. Munir Munshey

Have patience, and tolerate what they say. Chant the praises of your Lord (every day) before sunrise and before sunset

fa-iṣ'bir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulūʿi l-shamsi waqabla l-ghurūb

50:40

وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ ۝٤٠

Dr. Munir Munshey

Also, chant His praises at night; and (glorify Him again) at the end of prostration (during each prayer)

wamina al-layli fasabbiḥ'hu wa-adbāra l-sujūd

50:41

وَٱسۡتَمِعۡ یَوۡمَ یُنَادِ ٱلۡمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانࣲ قَرِیبࣲ ۝٤١

Dr. Munir Munshey

Listen! The day the trumpeter calls from a nearby place

wa-is'tamiʿ yawma yunādi l-munādi min makānin qarībi

50:42

یَوۡمَ یَسۡمَعُونَ ٱلصَّیۡحَةَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُرُوجِ ۝٤٢

Dr. Munir Munshey

Is the day they shall hear the blast, the call of truth! That will be the day of release (from the graves)

yawma yasmaʿūna l-ṣayḥata bil-ḥaqi dhālika yawmu l-khurūj

50:43

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِۦ وَنُمِیتُ وَإِلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٤٣

Dr. Munir Munshey

Indeed, We (alone) bestow life, and We give death. Towards Us, is the return trip (of every soul)

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wa-ilaynā l-maṣīr

50:44

یَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡهُمۡ سِرَاعࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَیۡنَا یَسِیرࣱ ۝٤٤

Dr. Munir Munshey

That day, the earth will split open, allowing them to emerge (from their graves) in a hurry. (Carrying out) such (a feat of) gathering (of all souls) is quite easy for Us

yawma tashaqqaqu l-arḍu ʿanhum sirāʿan dhālika ḥashrun ʿalaynā yasīru

50:45

نَّحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَقُولُونَۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ عَلَیۡهِم بِجَبَّارࣲۖ فَذَكِّرۡ بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَن یَخَافُ وَعِیدِ ۝٤٥

Dr. Munir Munshey

We know quite well what they say. (You may not compel them), and you are not (appointed) a tyrant over them. With (the help of) this Qur´an. remind the one who fears (and heeds) My warning

naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaqūlūna wamā anta ʿalayhim bijabbārin fadhakkir bil-qur'āni man yakhāfu waʿīd
