1 The Resurrection

قۤۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡمَجِیدِ ۝١

Qaaf. By the glorious Quran.

qaf wal-qur'āni l-majīd

بَلۡ عَجِبُوۤا۟ أَن جَاۤءَهُم مُّنذِرࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَقَالَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَیۡءٌ عَجِیبٌ ۝٢

No, they wonder that a warner has come to them from among themselves, so the infidels say, “This is a wonderful thing.

bal ʿajibū an jāahum mundhirun min'hum faqāla l-kāfirūna hādhā shayon ʿajību

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰاۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ رَجۡعُۢ بَعِیدࣱ ۝٣

What! when we are dead and become (part of the)soil, (will we then be raised to life again)? That is a return far (from probable).”

a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban dhālika rajʿun baʿīdu

قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِیظُۢ ۝٤

We indeed know that which the earth reduces from them and with Us is a protected record.

qad ʿalim'nā mā tanquṣu l-arḍu min'hum waʿindanā kitābun ḥafīẓu

بَلۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِیۤ أَمۡرࣲ مَّرِیجٍ ۝٥

No, they denied the truth when it came to them, so they are left confused in the affair.

bal kadhabū bil-ḥaqi lammā jāahum fahum fī amrin marīji

أَفَلَمۡ یَنظُرُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَیۡفَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجࣲ ۝٦

Did they not then look at the sky above them, how We have constructed it and adorned it and (that) there are no openings in it,

afalam yanẓurū ilā l-samāi fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wazayyannāhā wamā lahā min furūji

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِیجࣲ ۝٧

and the earth, (how) We have stretched it and (how) We have put mountains in it and (how) We have caused to grow every kind of beautiful thing in it?

wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin bahīji

تَبۡصِرَةࣰ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِیبࣲ ۝٨

(These are sources of) insight and a reminder for every servant who turns (to Allah).

tabṣiratan wadhik'rā likulli ʿabdin munībi

وَنَزَّلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ مُّبَـٰرَكࣰا فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَحَبَّ ٱلۡحَصِیدِ ۝٩

And We send down blessed water from the sky, then We cause to grow through it gardens and grain that is reaped,

wanazzalnā mina l-samāi māan mubārakan fa-anbatnā bihi jannātin waḥabba l-ḥaṣīd

وَٱلنَّخۡلَ بَاسِقَـٰتࣲ لَّهَا طَلۡعࣱ نَّضِیدࣱ ۝١٠

and tall date palms, the produce of which is layered,

wal-nakhla bāsiqātin lahā ṭalʿun naḍīdu

رِّزۡقࣰا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ ۝١١

a provision for (Our) servants, and We give life through it to a dead land, thus will be the coming out (on the day of resurrection).

riz'qan lil'ʿibādi wa-aḥyaynā bihi baldatan maytan kadhālika l-khurūj

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ ۝١٢

(Those who) denied before them (were): people of Nuh and the inhabitants of Ar Raas and Samood

kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-aṣḥābu l-rasi wathamūd

وَعَادࣱ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُ لُوطࣲ ۝١٣

and Aad and Firawn and the brothers of Lut

waʿādun wafir'ʿawnu wa-ikh'wānu lūṭi

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ وَقَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲۚ كُلࣱّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِیدِ ۝١٤

and the inhabitants of the jungle and the people of Tubba, all denied the messengers so My threat became incumbent.

wa-aṣḥābu l-aykati waqawmu tubbaʿin kullun kadhaba l-rusula faḥaqqa waʿīd

أَفَعَیِینَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی لَبۡسࣲ مِّنۡ خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٥

Were We then tired due to the first creation? No, they are in confusion about the new creation.

afaʿayīnā bil-khalqi l-awali bal hum fī labsin min khalqin jadīdi

2 The Resurrection

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِیدِ ۝١٦

And We have created man and We know what his soul (mind) whispers to him, and We are nearer to him than his life vein,

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna wanaʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli l-warīd

إِذۡ یَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّیَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِیدࣱ ۝١٧

when the two receivers (while) sitting, receive from the right and from the left,

idh yatalaqqā l-mutalaqiyāni ʿani l-yamīni waʿani l-shimāli qaʿīdu

مَّا یَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَیۡهِ رَقِیبٌ عَتِیدࣱ ۝١٨

he does not utter a word but one vigilant near him is ready.

mā yalfiẓu min qawlin illā ladayhi raqībun ʿatīdu

وَجَاۤءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِیدُ ۝١٩

And the intoxication of death will really come, (when it will be said), “That is what you used to run away from.”

wajāat sakratu l-mawti bil-ḥaqi dhālika mā kunta min'hu taḥīd

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٠

And it will be blown into the trumpet (structure of the universe), that will be the threatened day.

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri dhālika yawmu l-waʿīd

وَجَاۤءَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّعَهَا سَاۤىِٕقࣱ وَشَهِیدࣱ ۝٢١

And every soul will come, with it will be a driver and a witness.

wajāat kullu nafsin maʿahā sāiqun washahīdu

لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَاۤءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ حَدِیدࣱ ۝٢٢

(It will be said), “You were heedless of this, but We have removed from you your covering, so this day your sight is sharp.”

laqad kunta fī ghaflatin min hādhā fakashafnā ʿanka ghiṭāaka fabaṣaruka l-yawma ḥadīdu

وَقَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَیَّ عَتِیدٌ ۝٢٣

And his comrade will say, “This (record) which is with me is ready.”

waqāla qarīnuhu hādhā mā ladayya ʿatīdu

أَلۡقِیَا فِی جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِیدࣲ ۝٢٤

(It will be ordered), “Both of you (driver and witness or the two angels on the right and the left of each person), put into hell, every ungrateful transgressor,

alqiyā fī jahannama kulla kaffārin ʿanīdi

مَّنَّاعࣲ لِّلۡخَیۡرِ مُعۡتَدࣲ مُّرِیبٍ ۝٢٥

forbidder of good, exceeder of limits, doubter,

mannāʿin lil'khayri muʿ'tadin murībi

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلۡقِیَاهُ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِیدِ ۝٢٦

he who sets up another god with Allah, so both of you put him into the severe punishment.”

alladhī jaʿala maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fa-alqiyāhu fī l-ʿadhābi l-shadīd

۞ قَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَاۤ أَطۡغَیۡتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِی ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٢٧

His comrade will say, “Our Fosterer! I did not cause him to rebel but he was (himself) far away in error.”

qāla qarīnuhu rabbanā mā aṭghaytuhu walākin kāna fī ḍalālin baʿīdi

قَالَ لَا تَخۡتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَیَّ وَقَدۡ قَدَّمۡتُ إِلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٨

He will say, “Do not dispute in My presence, and I had indeed (informed you about) the threatening in advance,

qāla lā takhtaṣimū ladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bil-waʿīd

مَا یُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ لَدَیَّ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٢٩

(therefore) the statement from Me will not be changed and I am not unjust to My servants.”

mā yubaddalu l-qawlu ladayya wamā anā biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

3 The Resurrection

یَوۡمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمۡتَلَأۡتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلۡ مِن مَّزِیدࣲ ۝٣٠

The day We will say to hell, “Are you filled?” And it will say, “Are there any more?”

yawma naqūlu lijahannama hali im'talati wataqūlu hal min mazīdi

وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ غَیۡرَ بَعِیدٍ ۝٣١

And the garden will be brought near to those who had guarded (against evil), not being far away.

wa-uz'lifati l-janatu lil'muttaqīna ghayra baʿīdi

هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِیظࣲ ۝٣٢

This is what you were promised, (it is) for every one who turns (to Allah, being a) protector (of His religion),

hādhā mā tūʿadūna likulli awwābin ḥafīẓi

مَّنۡ خَشِیَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَجَاۤءَ بِقَلۡبࣲ مُّنِیبٍ ۝٣٣

who fears the Beneficent (Allah) without having seen (Him), and comes with a heart turning in repentance.

man khashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi wajāa biqalbin munībi

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمࣲۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُلُودِ ۝٣٤

(It will be said to him): “Enter it in peace, that is the eternal day.”* * Period

ud'khulūhā bisalāmin dhālika yawmu l-khulūd

لَهُم مَّا یَشَاۤءُونَ فِیهَا وَلَدَیۡنَا مَزِیدࣱ ۝٣٥

For them therein, there will be what they will for, and more from Us.

lahum mā yashāūna fīhā waladaynā mazīdu

وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡنٍ هُمۡ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ هَلۡ مِن مَّحِیصٍ ۝٣٦

And how many a generation did We destroy before them, who were stronger than them in taking hold (of others), but We made them to wander (from place to place) in the lands (asking), “Is there (a place of) refuge?”

wakam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu min'hum baṭshan fanaqqabū fī l-bilādi hal min maḥīṣi

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَذِكۡرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلۡبٌ أَوۡ أَلۡقَى ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَهُوَ شَهِیدࣱ ۝٣٧

There is certainly a reminder in that for him who has a heart or gives ear (i.e. hears) and he is one who witnesses.

inna fī dhālika ladhik'rā liman kāna lahu qalbun aw alqā l-samʿa wahuwa shahīdu

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبࣲ ۝٣٨

And We created the skies and the earth and that which is between them in six periods, and weariness did not (even) touch Us.

walaqad khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā fī sittati ayyāmin wamā massanā min lughūbi

فَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا یَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ قَبۡلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَقَبۡلَ ٱلۡغُرُوبِ ۝٣٩

So be patient over what they say, and glorify by praising your Fosterer before the rising of the sun and before its setting,

fa-iṣ'bir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulūʿi l-shamsi waqabla l-ghurūb

وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ ۝٤٠

and (during parts) of the night glorify Him and after the prostrations (of salat).

wamina al-layli fasabbiḥ'hu wa-adbāra l-sujūd

وَٱسۡتَمِعۡ یَوۡمَ یُنَادِ ٱلۡمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانࣲ قَرِیبࣲ ۝٤١

And listen ! on the day when the announcer will announce from a near place,

wa-is'tamiʿ yawma yunādi l-munādi min makānin qarībi

یَوۡمَ یَسۡمَعُونَ ٱلصَّیۡحَةَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُرُوجِ ۝٤٢

the day when they will hear the loud cry in reality, that will be the day of coming out (from the earth).

yawma yasmaʿūna l-ṣayḥata bil-ḥaqi dhālika yawmu l-khurūj

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِۦ وَنُمِیتُ وَإِلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٤٣

(It is) certainly We (Who) give life and cause to die and towards Us is the destination.

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wa-ilaynā l-maṣīr

یَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡهُمۡ سِرَاعࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَیۡنَا یَسِیرࣱ ۝٤٤

The day the earth will split from (above) them, (they will come out) fast, that is an easy gathering together for Us.

yawma tashaqqaqu l-arḍu ʿanhum sirāʿan dhālika ḥashrun ʿalaynā yasīru

نَّحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَقُولُونَۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ عَلَیۡهِم بِجَبَّارࣲۖ فَذَكِّرۡ بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَن یَخَافُ وَعِیدِ ۝٤٥

We know best about that which they say, and you are not a compiler over them, therefore remind through the Quran, him who fears My threat.

naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaqūlūna wamā anta ʿalayhim bijabbārin fadhakkir bil-qur'āni man yakhāfu waʿīd
