1 The Resurrection

قۤۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡمَجِیدِ ۝١

Qaf. By the Glorious Qur'aan, [We swear its authenticity]

qaf wal-qur'āni l-majīd

بَلۡ عَجِبُوۤا۟ أَن جَاۤءَهُم مُّنذِرࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَقَالَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَیۡءٌ عَجِیبٌ ۝٢

But they wonder that there has come to them a Warner [from Allah] from among themselves. So the suppressors of the Truth say, "This is a strange thing!"

bal ʿajibū an jāahum mundhirun min'hum faqāla l-kāfirūna hādhā shayon ʿajību

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰاۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ رَجۡعُۢ بَعِیدࣱ ۝٣

"What! When we die and have become dust, (shall we rise again to life?) That is a return far [from being ever possible]!"

a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban dhālika rajʿun baʿīdu

قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِیظُۢ ۝٤

We do know what the earth takes away from them. And with Us is a record protected

qad ʿalim'nā mā tanquṣu l-arḍu min'hum waʿindanā kitābun ḥafīẓu

بَلۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِیۤ أَمۡرࣲ مَّرِیجٍ ۝٥

But they deny the Truth when it comes to them. And so they are in a confused state of mind

bal kadhabū bil-ḥaqi lammā jāahum fahum fī amrin marīji

أَفَلَمۡ یَنظُرُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَیۡفَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجࣲ ۝٦

Do they not look at the sky above them — how We have made it and adorned it, and see that there are no cracks in it

afalam yanẓurū ilā l-samāi fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wazayyannāhā wamā lahā min furūji

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِیجࣲ ۝٧

And We have spread out the earth and cast mountains into it. And We have caused every kind of beautiful spouse of herbage grow in it

wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin bahīji

تَبۡصِرَةࣰ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِیبࣲ ۝٨

To be observed and commemorated by every devotee turning to Allah

tabṣiratan wadhik'rā likulli ʿabdin munībi

وَنَزَّلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ مُّبَـٰرَكࣰا فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَحَبَّ ٱلۡحَصِیدِ ۝٩

And We send down from the sky rain as a blessing, and We produce therewith gardens and seed for the harves

wanazzalnā mina l-samāi māan mubārakan fa-anbatnā bihi jannātin waḥabba l-ḥaṣīd

وَٱلنَّخۡلَ بَاسِقَـٰتࣲ لَّهَا طَلۡعࣱ نَّضِیدࣱ ۝١٠

And tall palm-trees, with shoots of fruit-stalks, piled one over anothe

wal-nakhla bāsiqātin lahā ṭalʿun naḍīdu

رِّزۡقࣰا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ ۝١١

A provision for (Allah's) subjects. And We give life therewith [with rain] to land that is dead. Thus will the coming out of the dead from their graves [Resurrection] be

riz'qan lil'ʿibādi wa-aḥyaynā bihi baldatan maytan kadhālika l-khurūj

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ ۝١٢

[Resurrection] was denied before them by the People of Noah, the Companions of the Rass, and the Thamood

kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-aṣḥābu l-rasi wathamūd

وَعَادࣱ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُ لُوطࣲ ۝١٣

And of AAad, of Pharaoh, the brethren of Lot

waʿādun wafir'ʿawnu wa-ikh'wānu lūṭi

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ وَقَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲۚ كُلࣱّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِیدِ ۝١٤

The Companions of the Wood, and the People of Tubba' (an ancient tribe) — all of them rejected the Messengers, and My warning (to them) was duly fulfilled

wa-aṣḥābu l-aykati waqawmu tubbaʿin kullun kadhaba l-rusula faḥaqqa waʿīd

أَفَعَیِینَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی لَبۡسࣲ مِّنۡ خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٥

Were We then weary with the first Creation that they should be in such a confused state of mind about a new Creation!

afaʿayīnā bil-khalqi l-awali bal hum fī labsin min khalqin jadīdi

2 The Resurrection

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِیدِ ۝١٦

And We did create man, and We know the promptings of his own self. And We are closer to him than any bodily channel having access into his brain

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna wanaʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli l-warīd

إِذۡ یَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّیَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِیدࣱ ۝١٧

When the two frequently confronting voices, one located on the right and one on the left, confront each othe

idh yatalaqqā l-mutalaqiyāni ʿani l-yamīni waʿani l-shimāli qaʿīdu

مَّا یَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَیۡهِ رَقِیبٌ عَتِیدࣱ ۝١٨

He utters not a word but is there a sentinel by him, ready [to record it]

mā yalfiẓu min qawlin illā ladayhi raqībun ʿatīdu

وَجَاۤءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِیدُ ۝١٩

And the pangs of death will bring the Truth home to him. "This was the thing you kept away from!"

wajāat sakratu l-mawti bil-ḥaqi dhālika mā kunta min'hu taḥīd

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٠

And then the Trumpet is blown — there then is the Day promised

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri dhālika yawmu l-waʿīd

وَجَاۤءَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّعَهَا سَاۤىِٕقࣱ وَشَهِیدࣱ ۝٢١

And every soul comes forth accompanied by a driver and a witness

wajāat kullu nafsin maʿahā sāiqun washahīdu

لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَاۤءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ حَدِیدࣱ ۝٢٢

"You were careless about this. Now that We have taken off your cover from you, strong is your eyesight this Day!"

laqad kunta fī ghaflatin min hādhā fakashafnā ʿanka ghiṭāaka fabaṣaruka l-yawma ḥadīdu

وَقَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَیَّ عَتِیدٌ ۝٢٣

And his Companion [witness] says, "It's ready here — what in my hand is [man's record]!"

waqāla qarīnuhu hādhā mā ladayya ʿatīdu

أَلۡقِیَا فِی جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِیدࣲ ۝٢٤

"Throw into Hell every stubborn suppressor of evidence proving existence of Allah [with attributes as given in the Qur'aan]!"

alqiyā fī jahannama kulla kaffārin ʿanīdi

مَّنَّاعࣲ لِّلۡخَیۡرِ مُعۡتَدࣲ مُّرِیبٍ ۝٢٥

"Who was forbidding what was good, transgressing all bounds, and casting doubts and suspicions."

mannāʿin lil'khayri muʿ'tadin murībi

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلۡقِیَاهُ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِیدِ ۝٢٦

"Who had set up other god/s besides Allah! So throw him into the severe punishment."

alladhī jaʿala maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fa-alqiyāhu fī l-ʿadhābi l-shadīd

۞ قَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَاۤ أَطۡغَیۡتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِی ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٢٧

His Companion says, "Our Lord! I did not make him transgress, but he was (himself) gone far astray."

qāla qarīnuhu rabbanā mā aṭghaytuhu walākin kāna fī ḍalālin baʿīdi

قَالَ لَا تَخۡتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَیَّ وَقَدۡ قَدَّمۡتُ إِلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٨

He [Allah] says, "Quarrel not in My Presence; and I did send you the warning in advance."

qāla lā takhtaṣimū ladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bil-waʿīd

مَا یُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ لَدَیَّ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٢٩

"No alteration in the Word with Me, and I am never unjust to My subjects."

mā yubaddalu l-qawlu ladayya wamā anā biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

3 The Resurrection

یَوۡمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمۡتَلَأۡتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلۡ مِن مَّزِیدࣲ ۝٣٠

That Day We ask Hell, "Are you full?" And it asks, "Are there any more?"

yawma naqūlu lijahannama hali im'talati wataqūlu hal min mazīdi

وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ غَیۡرَ بَعِیدٍ ۝٣١

And the Garden [of Paradise] is brought near for the pious and righteous, and it is no longer a distant objective [for them.

wa-uz'lifati l-janatu lil'muttaqīna ghayra baʿīdi

هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِیظࣲ ۝٣٢

"This is what you were promised. [And this is what was promised] to every one who turned (to Allah in sincere repentance) and protected (himself against satanic influence.

hādhā mā tūʿadūna likulli awwābin ḥafīẓi

مَّنۡ خَشِیَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَجَاۤءَ بِقَلۡبࣲ مُّنِیبٍ ۝٣٣

Who feared the Gracious One without physically seeing Him with worldly eyes, and has come with a mind turned in devotion (to Him)

man khashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi wajāa biqalbin munībi

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمࣲۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُلُودِ ۝٣٤

"Enter therein [in Paradise] in Peace and Security; this is time of eternal life!"

ud'khulūhā bisalāmin dhālika yawmu l-khulūd

لَهُم مَّا یَشَاۤءُونَ فِیهَا وَلَدَیۡنَا مَزِیدࣱ ۝٣٥

There is for them therein all that they desire. And [there is besides] much more with Us

lahum mā yashāūna fīhā waladaynā mazīdu

وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡنٍ هُمۡ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ هَلۡ مِن مَّحِیصٍ ۝٣٦

And how many a generation before them, stronger in power than they, did We destroy! They had wandered through the lands in search of a place of escape!

wakam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu min'hum baṭshan fanaqqabū fī l-bilādi hal min maḥīṣi

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَذِكۡرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلۡبٌ أَوۡ أَلۡقَى ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَهُوَ شَهِیدࣱ ۝٣٧

Certainly indeed in this is a lesson to learn for any who has an understanding mind or who lends an insightful ear

inna fī dhālika ladhik'rā liman kāna lahu qalbun aw alqā l-samʿa wahuwa shahīdu

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبࣲ ۝٣٨

We created the heavens and the earth and all things in between in six periods of time. And weariness did not even touch Us

walaqad khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā fī sittati ayyāmin wamā massanā min lughūbi

فَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا یَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ قَبۡلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَقَبۡلَ ٱلۡغُرُوبِ ۝٣٩

Have patience, then, over what they say, and glorify your Lord with praise, before the rising of the sun and before its setting

fa-iṣ'bir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulūʿi l-shamsi waqabla l-ghurūb

وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ ۝٤٠

And glorify Him during parts of the night, and post prostrations

wamina al-layli fasabbiḥ'hu wa-adbāra l-sujūd

وَٱسۡتَمِعۡ یَوۡمَ یُنَادِ ٱلۡمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانࣲ قَرِیبࣲ ۝٤١

And listen the Day when the Caller calls out from a place quite near, —

wa-is'tamiʿ yawma yunādi l-munādi min makānin qarībi

یَوۡمَ یَسۡمَعُونَ ٱلصَّیۡحَةَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُرُوجِ ۝٤٢

The Day when they hear a real mighty Blast — that is the Day of Resurrection

yawma yasmaʿūna l-ṣayḥata bil-ḥaqi dhālika yawmu l-khurūj

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِۦ وَنُمِیتُ وَإِلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٤٣

It is indeed We Who give life and cause death; and to Us is the final destination

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wa-ilaynā l-maṣīr

یَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡهُمۡ سِرَاعࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَیۡنَا یَسِیرࣱ ۝٤٤

That Day the earth swiftly separates from them. That gathering — it is easy for Us

yawma tashaqqaqu l-arḍu ʿanhum sirāʿan dhālika ḥashrun ʿalaynā yasīru

نَّحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَقُولُونَۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ عَلَیۡهِم بِجَبَّارࣲۖ فَذَكِّرۡ بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَن یَخَافُ وَعِیدِ ۝٤٥

We know what they say! And you are not to be coercive on them. So admonish with the Qur'an such as fear My Warning

naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaqūlūna wamā anta ʿalayhim bijabbārin fadhakkir bil-qur'āni man yakhāfu waʿīd
