The Letter Qaf — Musharraf Hussain Translation

بَلۡ عَجِبُوۤا۟ أَن جَاۤءَهُم مُّنذِرࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَقَالَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَیۡءٌ عَجِیبٌ ۝٢

How is it that they are surprised that a warner has come from among them? The disbelievers say, “This is a strange thing!

bal ʿajibū an jāahum mundhirun min'hum faqāla l-kāfirūna hādhā shayon ʿajību

50:3

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰاۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ رَجۡعُۢ بَعِیدࣱ ۝٣

Musharraf Hussain

When we are dead and turned into dust will we be returned; a far-fetched idea.”

a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban dhālika rajʿun baʿīdu

50:4

قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِیظُۢ ۝٤

Musharraf Hussain

Indeed, We know what the Earth consumes of their bodies. We have a Book in which everything is carefully recorded.

qad ʿalim'nā mā tanquṣu l-arḍu min'hum waʿindanā kitābun ḥafīẓu

50:5

بَلۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِیۤ أَمۡرࣲ مَّرِیجٍ ۝٥

Musharraf Hussain

In fact, they denied the truth when it came to them because they are confused

bal kadhabū bil-ḥaqi lammā jāahum fahum fī amrin marīji

50:6

أَفَلَمۡ یَنظُرُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَیۡفَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجࣲ ۝٦

Musharraf Hussain

Haven’t they looked at the sky above them, how We made it beautiful and flawless,

afalam yanẓurū ilā l-samāi fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wazayyannāhā wamā lahā min furūji

50:7

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِیجࣲ ۝٧

Musharraf Hussain

and the earth how We spread it out and firmly set mountains on it, and produced all kinds of beneficial plants there?

wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin bahīji

50:8

تَبۡصِرَةࣰ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِیبࣲ ۝٨

Musharraf Hussain

They offer an insightful lesson and a reminder for every human being who willingly turns to Allah.

tabṣiratan wadhik'rā likulli ʿabdin munībi

50:9

وَنَزَّلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ مُّبَـٰرَكࣰا فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَحَبَّ ٱلۡحَصِیدِ ۝٩

Musharraf Hussain

And how We sent down blessed water from the sky, and with it We grow gardens and crops that are harvested,

wanazzalnā mina l-samāi māan mubārakan fa-anbatnā bihi jannātin waḥabba l-ḥaṣīd

50:10

وَٱلنَّخۡلَ بَاسِقَـٰتࣲ لَّهَا طَلۡعࣱ نَّضِیدࣱ ۝١٠

Musharraf Hussain

and tall palm trees loaded with clusters of dates –

wal-nakhla bāsiqātin lahā ṭalʿun naḍīdu

50:11

رِّزۡقࣰا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ ۝١١

Musharraf Hussain

a sustenance for people, and that is how We bring a dead place back to life with rain. The coming out of graves will be like that too

riz'qan lil'ʿibādi wa-aḥyaynā bihi baldatan maytan kadhālika l-khurūj

50:12

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ ۝١٢

Musharraf Hussain

Previously the truth was denied by the people of Nuh, the Rass, Thamud,

kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-aṣḥābu l-rasi wathamūd

50:13

وَعَادࣱ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُ لُوطࣲ ۝١٣

Musharraf Hussain

Ad, Pharaoh and the brothers of Lut,

waʿādun wafir'ʿawnu wa-ikh'wānu lūṭi

50:14

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ وَقَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲۚ كُلࣱّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِیدِ ۝١٤

Musharraf Hussain

the people of Iekah and Tubba. All of them denied the messengers, and so what they were threatened with actually happened to them.

wa-aṣḥābu l-aykati waqawmu tubbaʿin kullun kadhaba l-rusula faḥaqqa waʿīd

50:15

أَفَعَیِینَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی لَبۡسࣲ مِّنۡ خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٥

Musharraf Hussain

Has the first creation tired Us out? Not at all, but they are doubtful about the possibility of a new creation

afaʿayīnā bil-khalqi l-awali bal hum fī labsin min khalqin jadīdi

50:16

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِیدِ ۝١٦

Musharraf Hussain

We created humans, and know exactly what their desires urge them to do; in fact, We are nearer to them than their jugular vein.

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna wanaʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli l-warīd

50:17

إِذۡ یَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّیَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِیدࣱ ۝١٧

Musharraf Hussain

When the two recording angels, one sitting on their right and the other on their left, record.

idh yatalaqqā l-mutalaqiyāni ʿani l-yamīni waʿani l-shimāli qaʿīdu

50:18

مَّا یَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَیۡهِ رَقِیبٌ عَتِیدࣱ ۝١٨

Musharraf Hussain

Not a word they speak goes unrecorded by a vigilant observer.

mā yalfiẓu min qawlin illā ladayhi raqībun ʿatīdu

50:19

وَجَاۤءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِیدُ ۝١٩

Musharraf Hussain

Death throes will bring the truth with it: “This is what you tried to escape.”

wajāat sakratu l-mawti bil-ḥaqi dhālika mā kunta min'hu taḥīd

50:20

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٠

Musharraf Hussain

The Trumpet will be blown; that is the Day you were warned about.

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri dhālika yawmu l-waʿīd

50:21

وَجَاۤءَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّعَهَا سَاۤىِٕقࣱ وَشَهِیدࣱ ۝٢١

Musharraf Hussain

Everyone will be escorted by an angel and a witness.

wajāat kullu nafsin maʿahā sāiqun washahīdu

50:22

لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَاۤءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ حَدِیدࣱ ۝٢٢

Musharraf Hussain

They will be told: “You paid no attention to this Day, and We removed your veil, so today your sight is razor-sharp.”

laqad kunta fī ghaflatin min hādhā fakashafnā ʿanka ghiṭāaka fabaṣaruka l-yawma ḥadīdu

50:23

وَقَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَیَّ عَتِیدٌ ۝٢٣

Musharraf Hussain

Their lifelong companion will say, “I prepared, this file of yours.

waqāla qarīnuhu hādhā mā ladayya ʿatīdu

50:24

أَلۡقِیَا فِی جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِیدࣲ ۝٢٤

Musharraf Hussain

“Throw him into Hell, every rebellious disbeliever,

alqiyā fī jahannama kulla kaffārin ʿanīdi

50:25

مَّنَّاعࣲ لِّلۡخَیۡرِ مُعۡتَدࣲ مُّرِیبٍ ۝٢٥

Musharraf Hussain

everyone who obstructed others from good, every aggressor, every doubter

mannāʿin lil'khayri muʿ'tadin murībi

50:26

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلۡقِیَاهُ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِیدِ ۝٢٦

Musharraf Hussain

who had set up other gods with Allah. So throw him into the terrible punishment.”

alladhī jaʿala maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fa-alqiyāhu fī l-ʿadhābi l-shadīd

50:27

۞ قَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَاۤ أَطۡغَیۡتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِی ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٢٧

Musharraf Hussain

His devil companion will say, “Our Lord, I didn’t lead him to evil; he had already gone far astray.”

qāla qarīnuhu rabbanā mā aṭghaytuhu walākin kāna fī ḍalālin baʿīdi

50:28

قَالَ لَا تَخۡتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَیَّ وَقَدۡ قَدَّمۡتُ إِلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٨

Musharraf Hussain

Allah will say to them, “Do not squabble in My presence; I sent you a warning.

qāla lā takhtaṣimū ladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bil-waʿīd

50:29

مَا یُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ لَدَیَّ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٢٩

Musharraf Hussain

My Word does not change, and I am not unjust to any creature.”

mā yubaddalu l-qawlu ladayya wamā anā biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

50:30

یَوۡمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمۡتَلَأۡتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلۡ مِن مَّزِیدࣲ ۝٣٠

Musharraf Hussain

Remember the Day I shall ask Hell, “Are you full?” It will reply, “Are there more?

yawma naqūlu lijahannama hali im'talati wataqūlu hal min mazīdi

50:31

وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ غَیۡرَ بَعِیدٍ ۝٣١

Musharraf Hussain

Paradise will be brought near the righteous; it won’t be far away from them.

wa-uz'lifati l-janatu lil'muttaqīna ghayra baʿīdi

50:32

هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِیظࣲ ۝٣٢

Musharraf Hussain

This is what you were promised; it is for the one who turned to Allah, and was ever mindful of Him.

hādhā mā tūʿadūna likulli awwābin ḥafīẓi

50:33

مَّنۡ خَشِیَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَجَاۤءَ بِقَلۡبࣲ مُّنِیبٍ ۝٣٣

Musharraf Hussain

The one who feared Al-Rahman without ever seeing Him and came with a devout heart,

man khashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi wajāa biqalbin munībi

50:34

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمࣲۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُلُودِ ۝٣٤

Musharraf Hussain

he shall be told: “Enter Paradise peacefully, for this is the Everlasting Day.”

ud'khulūhā bisalāmin dhālika yawmu l-khulūd

50:35

لَهُم مَّا یَشَاۤءُونَ فِیهَا وَلَدَیۡنَا مَزِیدࣱ ۝٣٥

Musharraf Hussain

They will have anything they want there, and We will have much more for them

lahum mā yashāūna fīhā waladaynā mazīdu

50:36

وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡنٍ هُمۡ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ هَلۡ مِن مَّحِیصٍ ۝٣٦

Musharraf Hussain

We destroyed people in the past who were far stronger than them; they used to travel everywhere – did they escape?

wakam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu min'hum baṭshan fanaqqabū fī l-bilādi hal min maḥīṣi

50:37

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَذِكۡرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلۡبٌ أَوۡ أَلۡقَى ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَهُوَ شَهِیدࣱ ۝٣٧

Musharraf Hussain

In this is a reminder for anyone who has a heart, or listens attentively.

inna fī dhālika ladhik'rā liman kāna lahu qalbun aw alqā l-samʿa wahuwa shahīdu

50:38

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبࣲ ۝٣٨

Musharraf Hussain

We created the Heavens and the Earth and what lies between them in six days only, and We were not tired.

walaqad khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā fī sittati ayyāmin wamā massanā min lughūbi

50:39

فَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا یَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ قَبۡلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَقَبۡلَ ٱلۡغُرُوبِ ۝٣٩

Musharraf Hussain

So bear patiently what they say. Glorify and praise your Lord before the sunrise and sunset,

fa-iṣ'bir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulūʿi l-shamsi waqabla l-ghurūb

50:40

وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ ۝٤٠

Musharraf Hussain

and during the night, and glorify him after the set prayers too

wamina al-layli fasabbiḥ'hu wa-adbāra l-sujūd

50:41

وَٱسۡتَمِعۡ یَوۡمَ یُنَادِ ٱلۡمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانࣲ قَرِیبࣲ ۝٤١

Musharraf Hussain

Listen carefully about the Day when the caller from nearby will call out,

wa-is'tamiʿ yawma yunādi l-munādi min makānin qarībi

50:42

یَوۡمَ یَسۡمَعُونَ ٱلصَّیۡحَةَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُرُوجِ ۝٤٢

Musharraf Hussain

when people hear a Blast. That shall be the Day of the coming out of graves.

yawma yasmaʿūna l-ṣayḥata bil-ḥaqi dhālika yawmu l-khurūj

50:43

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِۦ وَنُمِیتُ وَإِلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٤٣

Musharraf Hussain

We give life and death, and the Final Return will be to Us.

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wa-ilaynā l-maṣīr

50:44

یَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡهُمۡ سِرَاعࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَیۡنَا یَسِیرࣱ ۝٤٤

Musharraf Hussain

The Day when the Earth will split open, letting them rush out, that gathering will be easy for Us.

yawma tashaqqaqu l-arḍu ʿanhum sirāʿan dhālika ḥashrun ʿalaynā yasīru

50:45

نَّحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَقُولُونَۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ عَلَیۡهِم بِجَبَّارࣲۖ فَذَكِّرۡ بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَن یَخَافُ وَعِیدِ ۝٤٥

Musharraf Hussain

We know well what they say, and you can’t force them to believe. So keep reminding through the Quran anyone who fears My Warning

naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaqūlūna wamā anta ʿalayhim bijabbārin fadhakkir bil-qur'āni man yakhāfu waʿīd
