The Letter Qaf — Dr Mohammad Tahir Ul Qadri Translation

But (strange and far from understanding is this that) they denied the truth (i.e., the Messenger and the Qur’an) when it came to them. So they have themselves stepped into anxiety and confusion

bal kadhabū bil-ḥaqi lammā jāahum fahum fī amrin marīji

50:6

أَفَلَمۡ یَنظُرُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَیۡفَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجࣲ ۝٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Have they not looked at the sky above them how We made it and (how) We adorned it, and there is no crack in it

afalam yanẓurū ilā l-samāi fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wazayyannāhā wamā lahā min furūji

50:7

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِیجࣲ ۝٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And (in the same way) We spread out the earth and We placed in it heavy mountains and produced in it every kind of beautiful plants

wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin bahīji

50:8

تَبۡصِرَةࣰ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِیبࣲ ۝٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

All that is (a source of) insight, direction and guidance for every servant who turns (to Allah in repentance)

tabṣiratan wadhik'rā likulli ʿabdin munībi

50:9

وَنَزَّلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ مُّبَـٰرَكࣰا فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَحَبَّ ٱلۡحَصِیدِ ۝٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And We showered blessed water from the sky and then produced with it gardens and (also) the grain of harvests

wanazzalnā mina l-samāi māan mubārakan fa-anbatnā bihi jannātin waḥabba l-ḥaṣīd

50:10

وَٱلنَّخۡلَ بَاسِقَـٰتࣲ لَّهَا طَلۡعࣱ نَّضِیدࣱ ۝١٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And date-palms soaring high with layers of spathes

wal-nakhla bāsiqātin lahā ṭalʿun naḍīdu

50:11

رِّزۡقࣰا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡیَیۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ ۝١١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(This all is done as) sustenance for the servants, and We gave life with this (water) to the dead earth. In like manner is (your) coming forth from the graves

riz'qan lil'ʿibādi wa-aḥyaynā bihi baldatan maytan kadhālika l-khurūj

50:12

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ ۝١٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Before these (disbelievers of Mecca), the people of Nuh (Noah) and the people of the blind well (al-Rass in al-Yamama) and Thamud (the people of Salih, in the town of al-Hijr near Tabuk on the Medina-Syria road)

kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-aṣḥābu l-rasi wathamūd

50:13

وَعَادࣱ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُ لُوطࣲ ۝١٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And ‘Ad (the people of Hud in Ahqaf valley of Yemen situated between Oman and the al-Mahra) and Pharaoh (the ruler of Egypt) and the people of Lut [Lot] (living in Sodom and ‘Amura [Gomorrah] in Palestine)

waʿādun wafir'ʿawnu wa-ikh'wānu lūṭi

50:14

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ وَقَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲۚ كُلࣱّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِیدِ ۝١٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And the inhabitants of al-Ayka (the wood in Madyan, the people of Shu‘ayb), and the people of Tubba‘ (the people of As‘ad Abu Kurib al-Himyari, the King of Yemen)—(in sum) all (of them) rejected the Messengers. So My promise of punishment (against them) proved true

wa-aṣḥābu l-aykati waqawmu tubbaʿin kullun kadhaba l-rusula faḥaqqa waʿīd

50:15

أَفَعَیِینَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی لَبۡسࣲ مِّنۡ خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So are We tired by the first creation? (Nay!) In fact, it is they who are in doubt about the new creation

afaʿayīnā bil-khalqi l-awali bal hum fī labsin min khalqin jadīdi

50:16

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِیدِ ۝١٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And assuredly, We created man and We know (also) the doubts which his (ill-commanding) self puts (into his heart and mind). And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna wanaʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli l-warīd

50:17

إِذۡ یَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّیَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِیدࣱ ۝١٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

When the two receivers receive (the recording angels write down his every communication and work), sitting on the right and on the left

idh yatalaqqā l-mutalaqiyāni ʿani l-yamīni waʿani l-shimāli qaʿīdu

50:18

مَّا یَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَیۡهِ رَقِیبٌ عَتِیدࣱ ۝١٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Not a word does he utter but a watcher is there beside him ready (to write it)

mā yalfiẓu min qawlin illā ladayhi raqībun ʿatīdu

50:19

وَجَاۤءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِیدُ ۝١٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And the stupor of death comes with the truth. (O man,) that is what you were running away from

wajāat sakratu l-mawti bil-ḥaqi dhālika mā kunta min'hu taḥīd

50:20

وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And the Trumpet will be blown. It is (this torment) the Day of Warning

wanufikha fī l-ṣūri dhālika yawmu l-waʿīd

50:21

وَجَاۤءَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّعَهَا سَاۤىِٕقࣱ وَشَهِیدࣱ ۝٢١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And every soul will appear (before Our presence), one (angel) forcing it forward and (the other) a witness (to its actions)

wajāat kullu nafsin maʿahā sāiqun washahīdu

50:22

لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَاۤءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ حَدِیدࣱ ۝٢٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The truth is that you were negligent of this (Day), so We have removed your veil (of negligence) and Today your sight is sharp

laqad kunta fī ghaflatin min hādhā fakashafnā ʿanka ghiṭāaka fabaṣaruka l-yawma ḥadīdu

50:23

وَقَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَیَّ عَتِیدٌ ۝٢٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And his close companion (angel) will say: ‘That is what I have ready (for you).

waqāla qarīnuhu hādhā mā ladayya ʿatīdu

50:24

أَلۡقِیَا فِی جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِیدࣲ ۝٢٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(It will be commanded:) ‘Both of you hurl into Hell every (such) ungrateful rebel

alqiyā fī jahannama kulla kaffārin ʿanīdi

50:25

مَّنَّاعࣲ لِّلۡخَیۡرِ مُعۡتَدࣲ مُّرِیبٍ ۝٢٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

That hinders from good, exceeds the limits, doubts and puts into doubt

mannāʿin lil'khayri muʿ'tadin murībi

50:26

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلۡقِیَاهُ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِیدِ ۝٢٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

That had set up another god besides Allah. So hurl him into a fierce torment.

alladhī jaʿala maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fa-alqiyāhu fī l-ʿadhābi l-shadīd

50:27

۞ قَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَاۤ أَطۡغَیۡتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِی ضَلَـٰلِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٢٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(Now) his (other) companion (Satan) will say: ‘O our Lord, I did not misguide him. In fact, he was himself suffering from misguidance of extreme degree.

qāla qarīnuhu rabbanā mā aṭghaytuhu walākin kāna fī ḍalālin baʿīdi

50:28

قَالَ لَا تَخۡتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَیَّ وَقَدۡ قَدَّمۡتُ إِلَیۡكُم بِٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Allah will say: ‘Do not dispute in My presence whilst I have already sent you the warning (of punishment)

qāla lā takhtaṣimū ladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bil-waʿīd

50:29

مَا یُبَدَّلُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ لَدَیَّ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٢٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The command is never changed in My presence. Nor do I wrong the servants.

mā yubaddalu l-qawlu ladayya wamā anā biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

50:30

یَوۡمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمۡتَلَأۡتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلۡ مِن مَّزِیدࣲ ۝٣٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

That Day We shall ask Hell: ‘Are you filled up?’ And it will say: ‘Is there any more?

yawma naqūlu lijahannama hali im'talati wataqūlu hal min mazīdi

50:31

وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ غَیۡرَ بَعِیدٍ ۝٣١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And Paradise will be brought close to the pious; it will not be distant at all

wa-uz'lifati l-janatu lil'muttaqīna ghayra baʿīdi

50:32

هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِیظࣲ ۝٣٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(And it will be said to them:) ‘This is what you were promised; (it is meant) for everyone who turns to Allah in repentance and who guards (his Din [Religion] and faith)

hādhā mā tūʿadūna likulli awwābin ḥafīẓi

50:33

مَّنۡ خَشِیَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنَ بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَجَاۤءَ بِقَلۡبࣲ مُّنِیبٍ ۝٣٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Who fears the Most Kind (Lord) unseen, and comes (before the presence of Allah) with a heart turned in repentance

man khashiya l-raḥmāna bil-ghaybi wajāa biqalbin munībi

50:34

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمࣲۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُلُودِ ۝٣٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Enter it in peace; this is the Day of Eternity.

ud'khulūhā bisalāmin dhālika yawmu l-khulūd

50:35

لَهُم مَّا یَشَاۤءُونَ فِیهَا وَلَدَیۡنَا مَزِیدࣱ ۝٣٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

All those blessings which they will long for will be there for them in that (Paradise), and there is still another blessing with Us (or much more; so the lovers will be enchanted)

lahum mā yashāūna fīhā waladaynā mazīdu

50:36

وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡنٍ هُمۡ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡبِلَـٰدِ هَلۡ مِن مَّحِیصٍ ۝٣٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And how many generations We destroyed before them (the disbelievers and idolaters of Mecca) who were far stronger in power and might than they! So they searched the cities (of the world) to run away somewhere for refuge (from death or torment)

wakam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu min'hum baṭshan fanaqqabū fī l-bilādi hal min maḥīṣi

50:37

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَذِكۡرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلۡبٌ أَوۡ أَلۡقَى ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَهُوَ شَهِیدࣱ ۝٣٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

There is indeed sure warning and admonition in it for him who has a heart (vigilant and awake, far from negligence,) or listens with active attention (i.e., focuses attention having no contact with anyone other than Allah) and is in a state of (spiritual) vision (i.e., remains lost in the effulgent disclosures of Allah’s absolute beauty)

inna fī dhālika ladhik'rā liman kāna lahu qalbun aw alqā l-samʿa wahuwa shahīdu

50:38

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبࣲ ۝٣٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And surely, We have created the heavens and the earth and that (universe) which is between the two in six periods and no fatigue has touched Us

walaqad khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā fī sittati ayyāmin wamā massanā min lughūbi

50:39

فَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا یَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ قَبۡلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَقَبۡلَ ٱلۡغُرُوبِ ۝٣٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So be patient with what they say and glorify your Lord with praise before sunrise and before sunset

fa-iṣ'bir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulūʿi l-shamsi waqabla l-ghurūb

50:40

وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ ۝٤٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And also glorify Him during some hours of the night and after the Prayers as well

wamina al-layli fasabbiḥ'hu wa-adbāra l-sujūd

50:41

وَٱسۡتَمِعۡ یَوۡمَ یُنَادِ ٱلۡمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانࣲ قَرِیبࣲ ۝٤١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And listen attentively (of the Day) when a caller will call from a near place

wa-is'tamiʿ yawma yunādi l-munādi min makānin qarībi

50:42

یَوۡمَ یَسۡمَعُونَ ٱلصَّیۡحَةَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡخُرُوجِ ۝٤٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The Day when people will assuredly hear a mighty roar. That will be the Day of coming out from the graves

yawma yasmaʿūna l-ṣayḥata bil-ḥaqi dhālika yawmu l-khurūj

50:43

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِۦ وَنُمِیتُ وَإِلَیۡنَا ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝٤٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Surely, it is We Who give life, and it is We Who cause death, and to Us is the return

innā naḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wa-ilaynā l-maṣīr

50:44

یَوۡمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ عَنۡهُمۡ سِرَاعࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ حَشۡرٌ عَلَیۡنَا یَسِیرࣱ ۝٤٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The Day when the earth will split apart from above them, they will come out in haste. This raising them alive (i.e., gathering the people once again) is quite easy for Us

yawma tashaqqaqu l-arḍu ʿanhum sirāʿan dhālika ḥashrun ʿalaynā yasīru

50:45

نَّحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَقُولُونَۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ عَلَیۡهِم بِجَبَّارࣲۖ فَذَكِّرۡ بِٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَن یَخَافُ وَعِیدِ ۝٤٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

We know best what they say, and you are not the one to coerce them. So advise by means of the Qur’an anyone who fears My threat of punishment

naḥnu aʿlamu bimā yaqūlūna wamā anta ʿalayhim bijabbārin fadhakkir bil-qur'āni man yakhāfu waʿīd
