The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:167

وَلِيَعْلَمَ waliyaʿlama
And that He (might) make evident V
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna
those who Noun
نَافَقُوا۟ nāfaqū
(are) hypocrites V
وَقِيلَ waqīla
And it was said V
لَهُمْ lahum
to them Noun
تَعَالَوْا۟ taʿālaw
Come V
قَٰتِلُوا۟ qātilū
fight V
فِى fī
in Prep
سَبِيلِ sabīli
(the) way Noun
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi
(of) Allah Noun
أَوِ awi
or Prep
ٱدْفَعُوا۟ id'faʿū
defend V
قَالُوا۟ qālū
They said V
لَوْ law
If Prep
نَعْلَمُ naʿlamu
we knew V
قِتَالًا qitālan
fighting Noun
لَّٱتَّبَعْنَٰكُمْ la-ittabaʿnākum
certainly we (would have) followed you V
هُمْ hum
They Noun
لِلْكُفْرِ lil'kuf'ri
to disbelief Noun
يَوْمَئِذٍ yawma-idhin
that day Noun
أَقْرَبُ aqrabu
(were) nearer Noun
مِنْهُمْ min'hum
than [them] Prep
لِلْإِيمَٰنِ lil'īmāni
to the faith Noun
يَقُولُونَ yaqūlūna
saying V
بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم bi-afwāhihim
with their mouths Noun
مَّا mā
what Noun
لَيْسَ laysa
was not V
فِى fī
in Prep
قُلُوبِهِمْ qulūbihim
their hearts Noun
وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu
And Allah Noun
أَعْلَمُ aʿlamu
(is) Most Knowing Noun
بِمَا bimā
of what Noun
يَكْتُمُونَ yaktumūna
they conceal V

when it was said to them, ‘Come, fight for God’s cause, or at least defend yourselves,’ answered, ‘We would follow you if we knew there was going to be fighting.’ On that day they were closer to disbelief than belief. They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts: God knows exactly what they conceal

وَلِیَعۡلَمَ ٱلَّذِینَ نَافَقُوا۟ۚ وَقِیلَ لَهُمۡ تَعَالَوۡا۟ قَـٰتِلُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدۡفَعُوا۟ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَوۡ نَعۡلَمُ قِتَالࣰا لَّٱتَّبَعۡنَـٰكُمۡۗ هُمۡ لِلۡكُفۡرِ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ أَقۡرَبُ مِنۡهُمۡ لِلۡإِیمَـٰنِۚ یَقُولُونَ بِأَفۡوَ ٰهِهِم مَّا لَیۡسَ فِی قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَكۡتُمُونَ ۝١٦٧

waliyaʿlama alladhīna nāfaqū waqīla lahum taʿālaw qātilū fī sabīli l-lahi awi id'faʿū qālū law naʿlamu qitālan la-ittabaʿnākum hum lil'kuf'ri yawma-idhin aqrabu min'hum lil'īmāni yaqūlūna bi-afwāhihim mā laysa fī qulūbihim wal-lahu aʿlamu bimā yaktumūn
