so that you will be V
شُهَدَآءَ shuhadāa

عَلَى ʿalā

ٱلنَّاسِ l-nāsi
the mankind Noun
وَيَكُونَ wayakūna
and will be V
ٱلرَّسُولُ l-rasūlu
the Messenger Noun
عَلَيْكُمْ ʿalaykum
on you Prep
شَهِيدًا shahīdan
a witness Noun
وَمَا wamā
And not Prep
جَعَلْنَا jaʿalnā
We made V
ٱلْقِبْلَةَ l-qib'lata
the direction of prayer Noun
ٱلَّتِى allatī
which Noun
كُنتَ kunta
you were used to V
عَلَيْهَآ ʿalayhā

إِلَّا illā
except Prep
لِنَعْلَمَ linaʿlama
that We make evident V

يَنقَلِبُ yanqalibu

كَانَتْ kānat

لَكَبِيرَةً lakabīratan
certainly a great (test) Noun
إِلَّا illā

عَلَى ʿalā
for Prep
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna
those whom Noun
هَدَى hadā
guided V
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu
(by) Allah Noun
وَمَا wamā
And not Prep
كَانَ kāna
will V
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu
Allah Noun
لِيُضِيعَ liyuḍīʿa
let go waste V
إِيمَٰنَكُمْ īmānakum
your faith Noun
إِنَّ inna
Indeed Prep
ٱللَّهَ l-laha
Allah Noun
بِٱلنَّاسِ bil-nāsi
(is) to [the] mankind Noun
لَرَءُوفٌ laraūfun
Full of Kindness Noun
رَّحِيمٌ raḥīmun
Most Merciful Noun

We have made you [believers] into a just community, so that you may bear witness [to the truth] before others and so that the Messenger may bear witness [to it] before you. We only made the direction the one you used to face [Prophet] in order to distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn on their heels: that test was hard, except for those God has guided. God would never let your faith go to waste [believers], for God is most compassionate and most merciful towards people

Arabic Text

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنَـٰكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَسَطࣰا لِّتَكُونُوا۟ شُهَدَاۤءَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَیَكُونَ ٱلرَّسُولُ عَلَیۡكُمۡ شَهِیدࣰاۗ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا ٱلۡقِبۡلَةَ ٱلَّتِی كُنتَ عَلَیۡهَاۤ إِلَّا لِنَعۡلَمَ مَن یَتَّبِعُ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِمَّن یَنقَلِبُ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَیۡهِۚ وَإِن كَانَتۡ لَكَبِیرَةً إِلَّا عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ هَدَى ٱللَّهُۗ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیُضِیعَ إِیمَـٰنَكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِٱلنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٤٣

wakadhālika jaʿalnākum ummatan wasaṭan litakūnū shuhadāa ʿalā l-nāsi wayakūna l-rasūlu ʿalaykum shahīdan wamā jaʿalnā l-qib'lata allatī kunta ʿalayhā illā linaʿlama man yattabiʿu l-rasūla mimman yanqalibu ʿalā ʿaqibayhi wa-in kānat lakabīratan illā ʿalā alladhīna hadā l-lahu wamā kāna l-lahu liyuḍīʿa īmānakum inna l-laha bil-nāsi laraūfun raḥīmu
