وَإِذَاۤ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّاۤءَ مَسَّتۡهُمۡ إِذَا لَهُم مَّكۡرࣱ فِیۤ ءَایَاتِنَاۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَسۡرَعُ مَكۡرًاۚ إِنَّ رُسُلَنَا یَكۡتُبُونَ مَا تَمۡكُرُونَ ۝٢١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when We give the people a taste of mercy after adversity has touched them, at once they conspire against Our verses. Say, " Allah is swifter in strategy." Indeed, Our messengers record that which you conspir
Abdel Haleem: No sooner do We let people taste some mercy after some hardship has afflicted them, than they begin to scheme against Our revelations. Say, ‘God schemes even faster.’ Our messengersrecord all your scheming
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy after some adversity which had afflicted them, behold! they have some plot against Our revelations. Say: Allah is more swift in plotting. Lo! Our messengers write down that which ye plot
Jonah 10:52 Verb
ثُمَّ قِیلَ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخُلۡدِ هَلۡ تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٥٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then it will be said to those who had wronged, "Taste the punishment of eternity; are you being recompensed except for what you used to earn?"
Abdel Haleem: It will be said to the evildoers, ‘Taste lasting punishment. Why should you be rewarded for anything but what you did?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then will it be said unto those who dealt unjustly Taste the torment of eternity. Are ye requited aught save what ye used to earn
Jonah 10:70 Verb
مَتَـٰعࣱ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا ثُمَّ إِلَیۡنَا مَرۡجِعُهُمۡ ثُمَّ نُذِیقُهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلشَّدِیدَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٧٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [For them is brief] enjoyment in this world; then to Us is their return; then We will make them taste the severe punishment because they used to disbeliev
Abdel Haleem: They may have a little enjoyment in this world, but then they will return to Us. Then We shall make them taste severe punishment for persisting in blasphemy
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: This world's portion (will be theirs), then unto Us is their return. Then We make them taste a dreadful doom because they used to disbelieve
Hud 11:10 Verb
وَلَىِٕنۡ أَذَقۡنَـٰهُ نَعۡمَاۤءَ بَعۡدَ ضَرَّاۤءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَیَقُولَنَّ ذَهَبَ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتُ عَنِّیۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَفَرِحࣱ فَخُورٌ ۝١٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, "Bad times have left me." Indeed, he is exultant and boastful
Abdel Haleem: And if We let him taste mercy after some harm has touched him, he is sure to say, ‘Misfortune has gone away from me.’ He becomes exultant and boastful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And if We cause him to taste grace after some misfortune that had befallen him, he saith: The ills have gone from me. Lo! he is exultant, boastful
Hud 11:9 Verb
وَلَىِٕنۡ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ ثُمَّ نَزَعۡنَـٰهَا مِنۡهُ إِنَّهُۥ لَیَءُوسࣱ كَفُورࣱ ۝٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if We give man a taste of mercy from Us and then We withdraw it from him, indeed, he is despairing and ungrateful
Abdel Haleem: How desperate and ungrateful man becomes when We let him taste Our mercy and then withhold it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And if we cause man to taste some mercy from Us and afterward withdraw it from him, lo! he is despairing, thankless
The Bee 16:112 Verb
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلࣰا قَرۡیَةࣰ كَانَتۡ ءَامِنَةࣰ مُّطۡمَىِٕنَّةࣰ یَأۡتِیهَا رِزۡقُهَا رَغَدࣰا مِّن كُلِّ مَكَانࣲ فَكَفَرَتۡ بِأَنۡعُمِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَذَ ٰقَهَا ٱللَّهُ لِبَاسَ ٱلۡجُوعِ وَٱلۡخَوۡفِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَصۡنَعُونَ ۝١١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And Allah presents an example: a city which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allah . So Allah made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing
Abdel Haleem: God presents the example of a town that was secure and at ease, with provisions coming to it abundantly from all places. Then it became ungrateful for God’s blessings, so God afflicted it with the garment of famine and fear, for what its people had done
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Allah coineth a similitude: a township that dwelt secure and well content, its provision coming to it in abundance from every side, but it disbelieved in Allah's favours, so Allah made it experience the garb of dearth and fear because of what they used to do
The Bee 16:94 Verb
وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوۤا۟ أَیۡمَـٰنَكُمۡ دَخَلَۢا بَیۡنَكُمۡ فَتَزِلَّ قَدَمُۢ بَعۡدَ ثُبُوتِهَا وَتَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلسُّوۤءَ بِمَا صَدَدتُّمۡ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٩٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And do not take your oaths as [means of] deceit between you, lest a foot slip after it was [once] firm, and you would taste evil [in this world] for what [people] you diverted from the way of Allah , and you would have [in the Hereafter] a great punishment
Abdel Haleem: Do not use your oaths to deceive each other lest any foot should slip after being firmly placed and lest you should taste the penalty for having hindered others from the path of God, and suffer terrible torment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Make not your oaths a deceit between you, lest a foot should slip after being firmly planted and ye should taste evil forasmuch as ye debarred (men) from the way of Allah, and yours should be an awful doom
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:75 Verb
إِذࣰا لَّأَذَقۡنَـٰكَ ضِعۡفَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ وَضِعۡفَ ٱلۡمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ عَلَیۡنَا نَصِیرࣰا ۝٧٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then [if you had], We would have made you taste double [punishment in] life and double [after] death. Then you would not find for yourself against Us a helper
Abdel Haleem: In that case, We would have made you taste a double punishment in this life, and a double punishment after death and then you would have found no one to help you against Us
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then had we made thee taste a double (punishment) of living and a double (punishment) of dying, then hadst thou found no helper against Us
The Pilgrimage 22:22 Verb
كُلَّمَاۤ أَرَادُوۤا۟ أَن یَخۡرُجُوا۟ مِنۡهَا مِنۡ غَمٍّ أُعِیدُوا۟ فِیهَا وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡحَرِیقِ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Every time they want to get out of Hellfire from anguish, they will be returned to it, and [it will be said], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire!"
Abdel Haleem: whenever, in their anguish, they try to escape, they will be pushed back in and told, ‘Taste the suffering of the Fire.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Whenever, in their anguish, they would go forth from thence they are driven back therein and (it is said unto them): Taste the doom of burning
The Pilgrimage 22:25 Verb
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَیَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ لِلنَّاسِ سَوَاۤءً ٱلۡعَـٰكِفُ فِیهِ وَٱلۡبَادِۚ وَمَن یُرِدۡ فِیهِ بِإِلۡحَادِۭ بِظُلۡمࣲ نُّذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, those who have disbelieved and avert [people] from the way of Allah and [from] al-Masjid al-iaram, which We made for the people - equal are the resident therein and one from outside; and [also] whoever intends [a deed] therein of deviation [in religion] or wrongdoing - We will make him taste of a painful punishment
Abdel Haleem: As for the disbelievers, who bar others from God’s path and from the Sacred Mosque- which We made for all people, residents and visitors alike- and who try to violate it with wrongdoing, We shall make them taste a painful punishment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! those who disbelieve and bar (men) from the way of Allah and from the Inviolable Place of Worship, which We have appointed for mankind together, the dweller therein and the nomad: whosoever seeketh wrongful partiality therein, him We shall cause to taste a painful doom
The Pilgrimage 22:9 Verb
ثَانِیَ عِطۡفِهِۦ لِیُضِلَّ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۖ لَهُۥ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا خِزۡیࣱۖ وَنُذِیقُهُۥ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ عَذَابَ ٱلۡحَرِیقِ ۝٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Twisting his neck [in arrogance] to mislead [people] from the way of Allah . For him in the world is disgrace, and We will make him taste on the Day of Resurrection the punishment of the Burning Fire [while it is said]
Abdel Haleem: turning scornfully aside to lead others away from God’s path. Disgrace in this world awaits such a person and, on the Day of Resurrection, We shall make him taste the suffering of the Fire
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Turning away in pride to beguile (men) from the way of Allah. For him in this world is ignominy, and on the Day of Resurrection We make him taste the doom of burning
The Criterion, The Standard 25:19 Verb
فَقَدۡ كَذَّبُوكُم بِمَا تَقُولُونَ فَمَا تَسۡتَطِیعُونَ صَرۡفࣰا وَلَا نَصۡرࣰاۚ وَمَن یَظۡلِم مِّنكُمۡ نُذِقۡهُ عَذَابࣰا كَبِیرࣰا ۝١٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So they will deny you, [disbelievers], in what you say, and you cannot avert [punishment] or [find] help. And whoever commits injustice among you - We will make him taste a great punishment
Abdel Haleem: [God will say], ‘Now your gods have denounced what you say as lies: you cannot avoid the punishment; you will not get any help.’ If any of you commits such evil, We shall make him taste agonizing torment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Thus they will give you the lie regarding what ye say, then ye can neither avert (the doom) nor obtain help. And whoso among you doeth wrong, We shall make him taste great torment
The Spider 29:55 Verb
یَوۡمَ یَغۡشَىٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ وَمِن تَحۡتِ أَرۡجُلِهِمۡ وَیَقُولُ ذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٥٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): On the Day the punishment will cover them from above them and from below their feet and it is said, "Taste [the result of] what you used to do."
Abdel Haleem: on the Day when punishment overwhelms them from above and from below their very feet, and they will be told, ‘Now taste the punishment for what you used to do.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: On the day when the doom will overwhelm them from above them and from underneath their feet, and He will say: Taste what ye used to do
The Romans, The Byzantines 30:33 Verb
وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلنَّاسَ ضُرࣱّ دَعَوۡا۟ رَبَّهُم مُّنِیبِینَ إِلَیۡهِ ثُمَّ إِذَاۤ أَذَاقَهُم مِّنۡهُ رَحۡمَةً إِذَا فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡهُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٣٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when adversity touches the people, they call upon their Lord, turning in repentance to Him. Then when He lets them taste mercy from Him, at once a party of them associate others with their Lord
Abdel Haleem: When something bad happens to people, they cry to their Lord and turn to Him for help, but no sooner does He let them taste His blessing than- lo and behold!- some of them ascribe partners to their Lord
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when harm toucheth men they cry unto their Lord, turning to Him in repentance; then, when they have tasted of His mercy, behold! some of them attribute partners to their Lor
The Romans, The Byzantines 30:36 Verb
وَإِذَاۤ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحۡمَةࣰ فَرِحُوا۟ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ إِذَا هُمۡ یَقۡنَطُونَ ۝٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair
Abdel Haleem: When We give people a taste of Our blessing, they rejoice, but when something bad happens to them- because of their own actions- they fall into utter despair
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy they rejoice therein; but if an evil thing befall them as the consequence of their own deeds, lo! they are in despair
The Romans, The Byzantines 30:41 Verb
ظَهَرَ ٱلۡفَسَادُ فِی ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ أَیۡدِی ٱلنَّاسِ لِیُذِیقَهُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی عَمِلُوا۟ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٤١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]
Abdel Haleem: Corruption has flourished on land and sea as a result of people’s actions and He will make them taste the consequences of some of their own actions so that they may turn back
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Corruption doth appear on land and sea because of (the evil) which men's hands have done, that He may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return
The Romans, The Byzantines 30:46 Verb
وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَن یُرۡسِلَ ٱلرِّیَاحَ مُبَشِّرَ ٰتࣲ وَلِیُذِیقَكُم مِّن رَّحۡمَتِهِۦ وَلِتَجۡرِیَ ٱلۡفُلۡكُ بِأَمۡرِهِۦ وَلِتَبۡتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٤٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And of His signs is that He sends the winds as bringers of good tidings and to let you taste His mercy and so the ships may sail at His command and so you may seek of His bounty, and perhaps you will be grateful
Abdel Haleem: Another of His signs is that He sends out the winds bearing good news, giving you a taste of His grace, making the ships sail at His command, enabling you to [journey in] search of His bounty so that you may be grateful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And of His signs is this: He sendeth herald winds to make you taste His mercy, and that the ships may sail at His command, and that ye may seek his favour, and that haply ye may be thankful
The Prostration, Worship, Adoration, The Adoration 32:14 Verb
فَذُوقُوا۟ بِمَا نَسِیتُمۡ لِقَاۤءَ یَوۡمِكُمۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِنَّا نَسِینَـٰكُمۡۖ وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخُلۡدِ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So taste [punishment] because you forgot the meeting of this, your Day; indeed, We have [accordingly] forgotten you. And taste the punishment of eternity for what you used to do."
Abdel Haleem: So since you ignored the meeting on this Day of yours, now We shall ignore you: taste the lasting suffering for all you have done.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So taste (the evil of your deeds). Forasmuch as ye forgot the meeting of this your day, lo! We forget you. Taste the doom of immortality because of what ye used to do

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ فَسَقُوا۟ فَمَأۡوَىٰهُمُ ٱلنَّارُۖ كُلَّمَاۤ أَرَادُوۤا۟ أَن یَخۡرُجُوا۟ مِنۡهَاۤ أُعِیدُوا۟ فِیهَا وَقِیلَ لَهُمۡ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ٱلَّذِی كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٢٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But as for those who defiantly disobeyed, their refuge is the Fire. Every time they wish to emerge from it, they will be returned to it while it is said to them, "Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny."
Abdel Haleem: As for those who defy God, their home will be the Fire. Whenever they try to escape it, they will be driven back into it, and they will be told, ‘Taste the torment of the Fire, which you persistently denied.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And as for those who do evil, their retreat is the Fire. Whenever they desire to issue forth from thence, they are brought back thither. Unto them it is said: Taste the torment of the Fire which ye used to deny
The Prostration, Worship, Adoration, The Adoration 32:21 Verb
وَلَنُذِیقَنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ دُونَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٢١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And we will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will repent
Abdel Haleem: We shall certainly make them taste a nearer torment [in this life] prior to the greater torment, so that perhaps they may return [to the right path]
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And verily We make them taste the lower punishment before the greater, that haply they may return
Saba, Sheba 34:12 Verb
وَلِسُلَیۡمَـٰنَ ٱلرِّیحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهۡرࣱ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَهۡرࣱۖ وَأَسَلۡنَا لَهُۥ عَیۡنَ ٱلۡقِطۡرِۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ مَن یَعۡمَلُ بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡهِ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَمَن یَزِغۡ مِنۡهُمۡ عَنۡ أَمۡرِنَا نُذِقۡهُ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِیرِ ۝١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind - its morning [journey was that of] a month - and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month, and We made flow for him a spring of [liquid] copper. And among the jinn were those who worked for him by the permission of his Lord. And whoever deviated among them from Our command - We will make him taste of the punishment of the Blaze
Abdel Haleem: And [We subjected] the wind for Solomon. Its outward journey took a month, and its return journey likewise. We made a fountain of molten brass flow for him, and some of the jinn worked under his control with his Lord’s permission. If one of them deviated from Our command, We let him taste the suffering of the blazing flame
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And unto Solomon (We gave) the wind, whereof the morning course was a month's journey and the evening course a month's journey, and We caused the fount of copper to gush forth for him, and (We gave him) certain of the jinn who worked before him by permission of his Lord. And such of them as deviated from Our command, them We caused to taste the punishment of flaming Fire
Saba, Sheba 34:42 Verb
فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ لَا یَمۡلِكُ بَعۡضُكُمۡ لِبَعۡضࣲ نَّفۡعࣰا وَلَا ضَرࣰّا وَنَقُولُ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٤٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But today you do not hold for one another [the power of] benefit or harm, and We will say to those who wronged, "Taste the punishment of the Fire, which you used to deny."
Abdel Haleem: ‘So today neither of you has any power to benefit or harm the other,’ We shall tell the evildoers, ‘Taste the torment of the fire which you called a lie.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: That day ye will possess no use nor hurt one for another. And We shall say unto those who did wrong: Taste the doom of the Fire which ye used to deny
The Angels, Originator, The Creator 35:37 Verb
وَهُمۡ یَصۡطَرِخُونَ فِیهَا رَبَّنَاۤ أَخۡرِجۡنَا نَعۡمَلۡ صَـٰلِحًا غَیۡرَ ٱلَّذِی كُنَّا نَعۡمَلُۚ أَوَ لَمۡ نُعَمِّرۡكُم مَّا یَتَذَكَّرُ فِیهِ مَن تَذَكَّرَ وَجَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلنَّذِیرُۖ فَذُوقُوا۟ فَمَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِینَ مِن نَّصِیرٍ ۝٣٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And they will cry out therein, "Our Lord, remove us; we will do righteousness - other than what we were doing!" But did We not grant you life enough for whoever would remember therein to remember, and the warner had come to you? So taste [the punishment], for there is not for the wrongdoers any helper
Abdel Haleem: They will cry out loud in Hell, ‘Lord, let us out, and we will do righteous deeds, not what we did before!’- ‘ Did We not give you a life long enough to take warning if you were going to? The warner came to you, now taste the punishment.’ The evildoers will have nobody to help them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And they cry for help there, (saying): Our Lord! Release us; we will do right, not (the wrong) that we used to do. Did not We grant you a life long enough for him who reflected to reflect therein? And the warner came unto you. Now taste (the flavour of your deeds), for evil-doers have no helper
The Letter Sad 38:57 Verb
هَـٰذَا فَلۡیَذُوقُوهُ حَمِیمࣱ وَغَسَّاقࣱ ۝٥٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): This - so let them taste it - is scalding water and [foul] purulence
Abdel Haleem: all this will be theirs: let them taste it- a scalding, dark, foul fluid
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Here is a boiling and an ice-cold draught, so let them taste it
The Letter Sad 38:8 Verb
أَءُنزِلَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلذِّكۡرُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِنَاۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی شَكࣲّ مِّن ذِكۡرِیۚ بَل لَّمَّا یَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِ ۝٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment
Abdel Haleem: Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?’ In fact they doubt My warning; in fact they have not tasted My punishment yet
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Hath the reminder been unto him (alone) among us? Nay, but they are in doubt concerning My reminder; nay but they have not yet tasted My doom

أَفَمَن یَتَّقِی بِوَجۡهِهِۦ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۚ وَقِیلَ لِلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then is he who will shield with his face the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection [like one secure from it]? And it will be said to the wrongdoers, "Taste what you used to earn."
Abdel Haleem: What about the one who will only have his bare face to protect him from his terrible suffering on the Day of Resurrection? It will be said to the evildoers, ‘Taste what you have earned.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Is he then, who will strike his face against the awful doom upon the Day of Resurrection (as he who doeth right)? And it will be said unto the wrong-doers: Taste what ye used to earn
The Troops, Throngs, The Companies 39:26 Verb
فَأَذَاقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡخِزۡیَ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُۚ لَوۡ كَانُوا۟ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So Allah made them taste disgrace in worldly life. But the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew
Abdel Haleem: God gave them the punishment of disgrace in this world to taste; the punishment will be even harder in the Hereafter, if only they knew
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Thus Allah made them taste humiliation in the life of the world, and verily the doom of the Hereafter will be greater if they did but know
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:106 Verb
یَوۡمَ تَبۡیَضُّ وُجُوهࣱ وَتَسۡوَدُّ وُجُوهࣱۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡوَدَّتۡ وُجُوهُهُمۡ أَكَفَرۡتُم بَعۡدَ إِیمَـٰنِكُمۡ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝١٠٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, [to them it will be said], "Did you disbelieve after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to reject."
Abdel Haleem: On the Day when some faces brighten and others darken, it will be said to those with darkened faces, ‘How could you reject your faith after believing? Taste the torment for doing so,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: On the Day when (some) faces will be whitened and (some) faces will be blackened; and as for those whose faces have been blackened, it will be said unto them: Disbelieved ye after your (profession of) belief? Then taste the punishment for that ye disbelieved
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:181 Verb
لَّقَدۡ سَمِعَ ٱللَّهُ قَوۡلَ ٱلَّذِینَ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ فَقِیرࣱ وَنَحۡنُ أَغۡنِیَاۤءُۘ سَنَكۡتُبُ مَا قَالُوا۟ وَقَتۡلَهُمُ ٱلۡأَنۢبِیَاۤءَ بِغَیۡرِ حَقࣲّ وَنَقُولُ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡحَرِیقِ ۝١٨١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Allah has certainly heard the statement of those [Jews] who said, "Indeed, Allah is poor, while we are rich." We will record what they said and their killing of the prophets without right and will say, "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire
Abdel Haleem: God has certainly heard the words of those who sneer, ‘So God is poor, while we are rich’. We shall record everything they say––as well as their killing of prophets in defiance of all that is right- and We shall say to them, ‘Taste the torment of the scorching fire
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Verily Allah heard the saying of those who said, (when asked for contributions to the war): "Allah, forsooth, is poor, and we are rich!" We shall record their saying with their slaying of the prophets wrongfully and We shall say: Taste ye the punishment of burning
Explained in Detail, Revelations Well Expounded 41:16 Verb
فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِیحࣰا صَرۡصَرࣰا فِیۤ أَیَّامࣲ نَّحِسَاتࣲ لِّنُذِیقَهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخِزۡیِ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَخۡزَىٰۖ وَهُمۡ لَا یُنصَرُونَ ۝١٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped
Abdel Haleem: so We let a roaring wind loose on them for a few disastrous days to make them taste the punishment of shame in this world; more shameful still will be the punishment of the life to come, and they will not be helped
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Therefor We let loose on them a raging wind in evil days, that We might make them taste the torment of disgrace in the life of the world. And verily the doom of the Hereafter will be more shameful, and they will not be helped
Explained in Detail, Revelations Well Expounded 41:27 Verb
فَلَنُذِیقَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ عَذَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَلَنَجۡزِیَنَّهُمۡ أَسۡوَأَ ٱلَّذِی كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But We will surely cause those who disbelieve to taste a severe punishment, and We will surely recompense them for the worst of what they had been doing
Abdel Haleem: We shall certainly give the disbelievers a taste of severe punishment. We shall repay them according to their worst deeds
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But verily We shall cause those who disbelieve to taste an awful doom, and verily We shall requite them the worst of what they used to do
Explained in Detail, Revelations Well Expounded 41:50 Verb
وَلَىِٕنۡ أَذَقۡنَـٰهُ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّاۤءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَیَقُولَنَّ هَـٰذَا لِی وَمَاۤ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَاۤىِٕمَةࣰ وَلَىِٕن رُّجِعۡتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّیۤ إِنَّ لِی عِندَهُۥ لَلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَلَنُذِیقَنَّهُم مِّنۡ عَذَابٍ غَلِیظࣲ ۝٥٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if We let him taste mercy from Us after an adversity which has touched him, he will surely say, "This is [due] to me, and I do not think the Hour will occur; and [even] if I should be returned to my Lord, indeed, for me there will be with Him the best." But We will surely inform those who disbelieved about what they did, and We will surely make them taste a massive punishment
Abdel Haleem: Whenever We let him taste some of Our mercy after he has been afflicted, he is sure to say, ‘This is all my own doing: I do not think the Hour will ever come, but even if I were to be taken back to my Lord, the best reward would await me with Him.’ We shall most certainly inform the disbelievers of what they have done and give them a taste of severe torment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And verily, if We cause him to taste mercy after some hurt that hath touched him, he will say: This is my own; and I deem not that the Hour will ever rise, and if I am brought back to my Lord, I surely shall be better off with Him - But We verily shall tell those who disbelieve (all) that they did, and We verily shall make them taste hard punishment
Council, Consultation, The Counsel 42:48 Verb
فَإِنۡ أَعۡرَضُوا۟ فَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَفِیظًاۖ إِنۡ عَلَیۡكَ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُۗ وَإِنَّاۤ إِذَاۤ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ فَرِحَ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ كَفُورࣱ ۝٤٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful
Abdel Haleem: We have not sent you [Prophet] to be their guardian: your only duty is to deliver the message. When We give man a taste of Our mercy, he rejoices in it, but if some harm befalls him on account of what he has done with his own hands, then he is ungrateful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But if they are averse, We have not sent thee as a warder over them. Thine is only to convey (the message). And lo! when We cause man to taste of mercy from Us he exulteth therefor. And if some evil striketh them because of that which their own hands have sent before, then lo! man is an ingrate
Smoke, The Evident Smoke 44:49 Verb
ذُقۡ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡكَرِیمُ ۝٤٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [It will be said], "Taste! Indeed, you are the honored, the noble
Abdel Haleem: ‘Taste this, you powerful, respected man
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (Saying): Taste! Lo! thou wast forsooth the mighty, the noble
Smoke, The Evident Smoke 44:56 Verb
لَا یَذُوقُونَ فِیهَا ٱلۡمَوۡتَ إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوۡتَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٥٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They will not taste death therein except the first death, and He will have protected them from the punishment of Hellfir
Abdel Haleem: After the one death they will taste death no more. God will guard them from the torment of Hell
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They taste not death therein, save the first death. And He hath saved them from the doom of hell
The Wind-curved Sandhills, The Dunes, The Sandhills 46:34 Verb
وَیَوۡمَ یُعۡرَضُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ أَلَیۡسَ هَـٰذَا بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَاۚ قَالَ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٣٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire [it will be said], "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord." He will say, "Then taste the punishment because you used to disbelieve."
Abdel Haleem: On the Day the disbelievers are brought before Hell [it will be said to them], ‘Is this not real?’ ‘Yes, by our Lord,’ they will reply and He will say, ‘Then taste the punishment for having denied the truth.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And on the day when those who disbelieve are exposed to the Fire (they will be asked): Is not this real? They will say: Yea, by our Lord. He will say: Then taste the doom for that ye disbelieved
Women 4:56 Verb
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا سَوۡفَ نُصۡلِیهِمۡ نَارࣰا كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتۡ جُلُودُهُم بَدَّلۡنَـٰهُمۡ جُلُودًا غَیۡرَهَا لِیَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَزِیزًا حَكِیمࣰا ۝٥٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses - We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted through We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted in Might and Wise
Abdel Haleem: We shall send those who reject Our revelations to the Fire. When their skins have been burned away, We shall replace them with new ones so that they may continue to feel the pain: God is mighty and wise
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the Fire. As often as their skins are consumed We shall exchange them for fresh skins that they may taste the torment. Lo! Allah is ever Mighty, Wise
The Winnowing Winds, The Scatterers 51:14 Verb
ذُوقُوا۟ فِتۡنَتَكُمۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِی كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ ۝١٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [And will be told], "Taste your torment. This is that for which you were impatient."
Abdel Haleem: ‘Taste the punishment! This is what you wished to hasten.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (And it will be said unto them): Taste your torment (which ye inflicted). This is what ye sought to hasten
The Moon 54:37 Verb
وَلَقَدۡ رَ ٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَیۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَاۤ أَعۡیُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."
Abdel Haleem: they even demanded his guests from him- so We sealed their eyes- ‘ Taste My [terrible] punishment and [the fulfilment of] My warnings!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings
The Moon 54:39 Verb
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So taste My punishment and warning
Abdel Haleem: ‘Taste My [terrible] punishment and [the fulfilment of] My warnings!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Now taste My punishment after My warnings
The Moon 54:48 Verb
یَوۡمَ یُسۡحَبُونَ فِی ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ ۝٤٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."
Abdel Haleem: on the Day when they are dragged on their faces in Hell. ‘Feel the touch of Hell.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: On the day when they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces (it is said unto them): Feel the touch of hell
Exile, Banishment 59:15 Verb
كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ قَرِیبࣰاۖ ذَاقُوا۟ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهِمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [Theirs is] like the example of those shortly before them: they tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment
Abdel Haleem: Like those who went just before them, they have tasted the result of their conduct and a painful punishment awaits them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: On the likeness of those (who suffered) a short time before them, they taste the ill-effects of their own conduct, and theirs is painful punishment
The Table, The Table Spread 5:95 Verb
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَقۡتُلُوا۟ ٱلصَّیۡدَ وَأَنتُمۡ حُرُمࣱۚ وَمَن قَتَلَهُۥ مِنكُم مُّتَعَمِّدࣰا فَجَزَاۤءࣱ مِّثۡلُ مَا قَتَلَ مِنَ ٱلنَّعَمِ یَحۡكُمُ بِهِۦ ذَوَا عَدۡلࣲ مِّنكُمۡ هَدۡیَۢا بَـٰلِغَ ٱلۡكَعۡبَةِ أَوۡ كَفَّـٰرَةࣱ طَعَامُ مَسَـٰكِینَ أَوۡ عَدۡلُ ذَ ٰلِكَ صِیَامࣰا لِّیَذُوقَ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهِۦۗ عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَمَّا سَلَفَۚ وَمَنۡ عَادَ فَیَنتَقِمُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۡهُۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِیزࣱ ذُو ٱنتِقَامٍ ۝٩٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): O you who have believed, do not kill game while you are in the state of ihram. And whoever of you kills it intentionally - the penalty is an equivalent from sacrificial animals to what he killed, as judged by two just men among you as an offering [to Allah ] delivered to the Ka'bah, or an expiation: the feeding of needy people or the equivalent of that in fasting, that he may taste the consequence of his deed. Allah has pardoned what is past; but whoever returns [to violation], then Allah will take retribution from him. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution
Abdel Haleem: You who believe, do not kill game while you are in the state of consecration [for pilgrimage]. If someone does so intentionally the penalty is an offering of a domestic animal brought to the Kaba, equivalent- as judged by two just men among you- to the one he has killed; alternatively, he may atone by feeding the needy or by fasting an equivalent number of days, so that he may taste the full gravity of his deed. God forgives what is past, but if anyone re-offends, God will exact the penalty from him: God is mighty, and capable of exacting the penalty
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O ye who believe! Kill no wild game while ye are on the pilgrimage. Whoso of you killeth it of set purpose he shall pay its forfeit in the equivalent of that which he hath killed, of domestic animals, the judge to be two men among you known for justice, (the forfeit) to be brought as an offering to the Ka'bah; or, for expiation, he shall feed poor persons, or the equivalent thereof in fasting, that he may taste the evil consequences of his deed. Allah forgiveth whatever (of this kind) may have happened in the past, but whoso relapseth, Allah will take retribution from him. Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite (the wrong)
Mutual Disillusion, Haggling, The Cheating 64:5 Verb
أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِكُمۡ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلُ فَذَاقُوا۟ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهِمۡ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Has there not come to you the news of those who disbelieved before? So they tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment
Abdel Haleem: [Disbelievers], have you not heard about those who disbelieved before you? They tasted the evil consequences of their conduct, and a painful torment awaits them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Hath not the story reached you of those who disbelieved of old and so did taste the ill-effects of their conduct, and theirs will be a painful doom
Divorce 65:9 Verb
فَذَاقَتۡ وَبَالَ أَمۡرِهَا وَكَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ أَمۡرِهَا خُسۡرًا ۝٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And it tasted the bad consequence of its affair, and the outcome of its affair was loss
Abdel Haleem: to make them taste the ill effect of their conduct- the result of their conduct was ruin
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So that it tasted the ill-effects of its conduct, and the consequence of its conduct was loss
Cattle, Livestock 6:148 Verb
سَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ لَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مَاۤ أَشۡرَكۡنَا وَلَاۤ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمۡنَا مِن شَیۡءࣲۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ ذَاقُوا۟ بَأۡسَنَاۗ قُلۡ هَلۡ عِندَكُم مِّنۡ عِلۡمࣲ فَتُخۡرِجُوهُ لَنَاۤۖ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا تَخۡرُصُونَ ۝١٤٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Those who associated with Allah will say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have associated [anything] and neither would our fathers, nor would we have prohibited anything." Likewise did those before deny until they tasted Our punishment. Say, "Do you have any knowledge that you can produce for us? You follow not except assumption, and you are not but falsifying."
Abdel Haleem: The idolaters will say, ‘If God had willed, we would not have ascribed partners to Him- nor would our fathers- or have declared anything forbidden.’ In the same way, those before them continually denied [the truth] until they tasted Our punishment. Say, ‘Have you any knowledge that you can show us? You follow only supposition and tell only lies.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They who are idolaters will say: Had Allah willed, we had not ascribed (unto Him) partners neither had our fathers, nor had we forbidden aught. Thus did those who were before them give the lie (to Allah's messengers) till they tasted of the fear of Us. Say: Have ye any knowledge that ye can adduce for Us? Lo! ye follow naught but an opinion, Lo! ye do but guess
Cattle, Livestock 6:30 Verb
وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡۚ قَالَ أَلَیۡسَ هَـٰذَا بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَاۚ قَالَ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٣٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): If you could but see when they will be made to stand before their Lord. He will say, "Is this not the truth?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord." He will [then] say, "So taste the punishment because you used to disbelieve."
Abdel Haleem: If you could only see, when they are made to stand before their Lord, how He will say, ‘Is this not real?’ They will say, ‘Yes indeed, by our Lord.’ He will say, ‘Then taste the torment for having disbelieved.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If thou couldst see when they are set before their Lord! He will say: Is not this real? They will say: Yea, verily, by our Lord! He will say: Taste now the retribution for that ye used to disbelieve
Cattle, Livestock 6:65 Verb
قُلۡ هُوَ ٱلۡقَادِرُ عَلَىٰۤ أَن یَبۡعَثَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ عَذَابࣰا مِّن فَوۡقِكُمۡ أَوۡ مِن تَحۡتِ أَرۡجُلِكُمۡ أَوۡ یَلۡبِسَكُمۡ شِیَعࣰا وَیُذِیقَ بَعۡضَكُم بَأۡسَ بَعۡضٍۗ ٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٦٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "He is the [one] Able to send upon you affliction from above you or from beneath your feet or to confuse you [so you become] sects and make you taste the violence of one another." Look how We diversify the signs that they might understand
Abdel Haleem: Say, ‘He has power to send punishment on you from above or from under your very feet, or to divide you into discordant factions and make some taste the violence of others.’ See how We explain Our revelation in various ways, so that they may understand
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: He is able to send punishment upon you from above you or from beneath your feet, or to bewilder you with dissension and make you taste the tyranny one of another. See how We display the revelations so that they may understand
The Tidings, The Announcement 78:24 Verb
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drin
Abdel Haleem: where they will taste no coolness nor drin
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drin
The Tidings, The Announcement 78:30 Verb
فَذُوقُوا فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."
Abdel Haleem: ‘Taste this: all you will get from Us is more torment.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:22 Verb
فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا بِغُرُورࣲۚ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا ٱلشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتۡ لَهُمَا سَوۡءَ ٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا یَخۡصِفَانِ عَلَیۡهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ وَنَادَىٰهُمَا رَبُّهُمَاۤ أَلَمۡ أَنۡهَكُمَا عَن تِلۡكُمَا ٱلشَّجَرَةِ وَأَقُل لَّكُمَاۤ إِنَّ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنَ لَكُمَا عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?"
Abdel Haleem: he lured them with lies. Their nakedness became exposed to them when they had eaten from the tree: they began to put together leaves from the Garden to cover themselves. Their Lord called to them, ‘Did I not forbid you to approach that tree? Did I not warn you that Satan was your sworn enemy?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying): Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you: Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:39 Verb
وَقَالَتۡ أُولَىٰهُمۡ لِأُخۡرَىٰهُمۡ فَمَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ عَلَیۡنَا مِن فَضۡلࣲ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٣٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And the first of them will say to the last of them, "Then you had not any favor over us, so taste the punishment for what you used to earn."
Abdel Haleem: and the first of them will say to the last, ‘You were no better than us: taste the punishment you have earned.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And the first of them saith unto the last of them: Ye were no whit better than us, so taste the doom for what ye used to earn
The Spoils of War 8:14 Verb
ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ فَذُوقُوهُ وَأَنَّ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ۝١٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): "That [is yours], so taste it." And indeed for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire
Abdel Haleem: ‘That is what you get! Taste that!’––and the torment of the Fire awaits the disbelievers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: That (is the award), so taste it, and (know) that for disbelievers is the torment of the Fire
The Spoils of War 8:35 Verb
وَمَا كَانَ صَلَاتُهُمۡ عِندَ ٱلۡبَیۡتِ إِلَّا مُكَاۤءࣰ وَتَصۡدِیَةࣰۚ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٣٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And their prayer at the House was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved
Abdel Haleem: Their prayers before the House are nothing but whistling and clapping. ‘So taste the punishment for your disbelief.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And their worship at the (holy) House is naught but whistling and hand-clapping. Therefore (it is said unto them): Taste of the doom because ye disbelieve
The Spoils of War 8:50 Verb
وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ یَتَوَفَّى ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَضۡرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمۡ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡحَرِیقِ ۝٥٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire
Abdel Haleem: If only you [Prophet] could see, when the angels take the souls of the disbelievers, how they strike their faces and backs: it will be said, ‘Taste the punishment of the Fire
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If thou couldst see how the angels receive those who disbelieve, smiting faces and their backs and (saying): Taste the punishment of burning
Repentance 9:35 Verb
یَوۡمَ یُحۡمَىٰ عَلَیۡهَا فِی نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُكۡوَىٰ بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمۡ وَجُنُوبُهُمۡ وَظُهُورُهُمۡۖ هَـٰذَا مَا كَنَزۡتُمۡ لِأَنفُسِكُمۡ فَذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡنِزُونَ ۝٣٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The Day when it will be heated in the fire of Hell and seared therewith will be their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, [it will be said], "This is what you hoarded for yourselves, so taste what you used to hoard."
Abdel Haleem: on the Day it is heated up in Hell’s Fire and used to brand their foreheads, sides, and backs, they will be told, ‘This is what you hoarded up for yourselves! Now feel the pain of what you hoarded!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: On the day when it will (all) be heated in the fire of hell, and their foreheads and their flanks and their backs will be branded therewith (and it will be said unto them): Here is that which ye hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what ye used to hoard

The Prophets 21:35 Noun
كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ ذَاۤىِٕقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ وَنَبۡلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلۡخَیۡرِ فِتۡنَةࣰۖ وَإِلَیۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٣٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned
Abdel Haleem: Every soul is certain to taste death: We test you all through the bad and the good, and to Us you will all return
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Every soul must taste of death, and We try you with evil and with good, for ordeal. And unto Us ye will be returned
The Spider 29:57 Noun
كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ ذَاۤىِٕقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۖ ثُمَّ إِلَیۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٥٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned
Abdel Haleem: Every soul will taste death, then it is to Us that you will be returned
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Every soul will taste of death. Then unto Us ye will be returned
Those Who Set The Ranks, Drawn up in Ranks, The Rangers 37:31 Noun
فَحَقَّ عَلَیۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَاۤۖ إِنَّا لَذَاۤىِٕقُونَ ۝٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]
Abdel Haleem: Our Lord’s sentence on us is just and we must all taste the punishment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom)
Those Who Set The Ranks, Drawn up in Ranks, The Rangers 37:38 Noun
إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَاۤىِٕقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِیمِ ۝٣٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment
Abdel Haleem: you will taste the painful torment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:185 Noun
كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ ذَاۤىِٕقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ وَإِنَّمَا تُوَفَّوۡنَ أُجُورَكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۖ فَمَن زُحۡزِحَ عَنِ ٱلنَّارِ وَأُدۡخِلَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ فَقَدۡ فَازَۗ وَمَا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۤ إِلَّا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلۡغُرُورِ ۝١٨٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion
Abdel Haleem: Every soul will taste death and you will be paid in full only on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever is kept away from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have triumphed. The present world is only an illusory pleasure
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Every soul will taste of death. And ye will be paid on the Day of Resurrection only that which ye have fairly earned. Whoso is removed from the Fire and is made to enter paradise, he indeed is triumphant. The life of this world is but comfort of illusion
