37:1

وَٱلصَّـٰۤفَّـٰتِ صَفࣰّا ۝١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

By those who line themselves in ranks

wal-ṣāfāti ṣaffa

37:2

فَٱلزَّ ٰجِرَ ٰتِ زَجۡرࣰا ۝٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And so are strong in repelling harm

fal-zājirāti zajra

37:3

فَٱلتَّـٰلِیَـٰتِ ذِكۡرًا ۝٣

And so proclaim the message

fal-tāliyāti dhik'ra

37:4

إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمۡ لَوَ ٰحِدࣱ ۝٤

Indeed your God is one

inna ilāhakum lawāḥidu

37:5

رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَشَـٰرِقِ ۝٥

Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the Sun

rabbu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā warabbu l-mashāriq

37:6

إِنَّا زَیَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا بِزِینَةٍ ٱلۡكَوَاكِبِ ۝٦

We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty in the stars

innā zayyannā l-samāa l-dun'yā bizīnatin l-kawākib

37:7

وَحِفۡظࣰا مِّن كُلِّ شَیۡطَـٰنࣲ مَّارِدࣲ ۝٧

For beauty and to guard against all rebellious devils

waḥif'ẓan min kulli shayṭānin māridi

37:8

لَّا یَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ وَیُقۡذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبࣲ ۝٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They should not strain their ears in the direction of the exalted assembly, but shall be cast away from every side

lā yassammaʿūna ilā l-mala-i l-aʿlā wayuq'dhafūna min kulli jānibi

37:9

دُحُورࣰاۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ وَاصِبٌ ۝٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty

duḥūran walahum ʿadhābun wāṣibu

37:10

إِلَّا مَنۡ خَطِفَ ٱلۡخَطۡفَةَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابࣱ ثَاقِبࣱ ۝١٠

Except those that snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness

illā man khaṭifa l-khaṭfata fa-atbaʿahu shihābun thāqibu

37:11

فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَهُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَم مَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَاۤۚ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّن طِینࣲ لَّازِبِۭ ۝١١

Just ask their opinion. Are they more difficult to create, or the other beings We have created? We have created them out of wet clay

fa-is'taftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnā innā khalaqnāhum min ṭīnin lāzibi

37:12

بَلۡ عَجِبۡتَ وَیَسۡخَرُونَ ۝١٢

Indeed you marvel while they ridicule

bal ʿajib'ta wayaskharūn

37:13

وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا یَذۡكُرُونَ ۝١٣

And though they are advised, they pay no heed

wa-idhā dhukkirū lā yadhkurūn

37:14

وَإِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ ءَایَةࣰ یَسۡتَسۡخِرُونَ ۝١٤

And when they see a sign, they turn it into mockery

wa-idhā ra-aw āyatan yastaskhirūn

37:15

وَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝١٥

And say, “This is nothing but evident deception

waqālū in hādhā illā siḥ'run mubīnu

37:16

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝١٦

“What, when we die and become dust and bones, will we be raised up

a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn

37:17

أَوَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝١٧

“And also our ancestors?

awaābāunā l-awalūn

37:18

قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَ ٰخِرُونَ ۝١٨

Say, “Yes, and you will then be humiliated.

qul naʿam wa-antum dākhirūn

37:19

فَإِنَّمَا هِیَ زَجۡرَةࣱ وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ فَإِذَا هُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝١٩

Then there will be a single cry, and behold, they will begin to see

fa-innamā hiya zajratun wāḥidatun fa-idhā hum yanẓurūn

37:20

وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٢٠

They will say, “Woe to us, this is the Day of Accountability!

waqālū yāwaylanā hādhā yawmu l-dīn

37:21

هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ ٱلَّذِی كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٢١

This is the day of sorting out, the truth you once denied

hādhā yawmu l-faṣli alladhī kuntum bihi tukadhibūn

37:22

۞ ٱحۡشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٢٢

“Bring up,” it will be said, “The wrongdoers and their partners, and the things they worshipped

uḥ'shurū alladhīna ẓalamū wa-azwājahum wamā kānū yaʿbudūn

37:23

مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهۡدُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٢٣

“Besides God, and lead them to the way of the fire

min dūni l-lahi fa-ih'dūhum ilā ṣirāṭi l-jaḥīm

37:24

وَقِفُوهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسۡءُولُونَ ۝٢٤

“But stop them, for they must be asked

waqifūhum innahum masūlūn

37:25

مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ ۝٢٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“What is the matter with you that you did not help each other?

mā lakum lā tanāṣarūn

37:26

بَلۡ هُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ مُسۡتَسۡلِمُونَ ۝٢٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

No, but that day they will submit

bal humu l-yawma mus'taslimūn

37:27

وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٢٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And they will turn to one another, and question each other

wa-aqbala baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin yatasāalūn

37:28

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَأۡتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٢٨

They will say, “It was you who used to come to us from the right.

qālū innakum kuntum tatūnanā ʿani l-yamīn

37:29

قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٢٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will reply, “No, you yourselves had no faith

qālū bal lam takūnū mu'minīn

37:30

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَیۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنِۭۖ بَلۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰا طَـٰغِینَ ۝٣٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Nor had we any authority over you. No, it was you who were a people in obstinate rebellion

wamā kāna lanā ʿalaykum min sul'ṭānin bal kuntum qawman ṭāghīn

37:31

فَحَقَّ عَلَیۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَاۤۖ إِنَّا لَذَاۤىِٕقُونَ ۝٣١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“So now has been proved true against us, the word of our Lord, so we will indeed taste it

faḥaqqa ʿalaynā qawlu rabbinā innā ladhāiqūn

37:32

فَأَغۡوَیۡنَـٰكُمۡ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِینَ ۝٣٢

“We led you astray, for indeed we were ourselves astray.

fa-aghwaynākum innā kunnā ghāwīn

37:33

فَإِنَّهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ ۝٣٣

Indeed that day, they will all share in the penalty

fa-innahum yawma-idhin fī l-ʿadhābi mush'tarikūn

37:34

إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٣٤

Indeed that is how We will deal with the wrong-doers

innā kadhālika nafʿalu bil-muj'rimīn

37:35

إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۤا۟ إِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٣٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

For they, when they were told that there is no god except God, would puff themselves up with pride

innahum kānū idhā qīla lahum lā ilāha illā l-lahu yastakbirūn

37:36

وَیَقُولُونَ أَىِٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوۤا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرࣲ مَّجۡنُونِۭ ۝٣٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And say, “What, will we give up our gods for the sake of a poet possessed?

wayaqūlūna a-innā latārikū ālihatinā lishāʿirin majnūni

37:37

بَلۡ جَاۤءَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٣٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

No, he has come with the truth, and he confirms the messengers

bal jāa bil-ḥaqi waṣaddaqa l-mur'salīn

37:38

إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَاۤىِٕقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِیمِ ۝٣٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

You will indeed taste the terrible penalty

innakum ladhāiqū l-ʿadhābi l-alīm

37:39

وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٣٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But it will be no more than retribution for what you did

wamā tuj'zawna illā mā kuntum taʿmalūn

37:40

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝٤٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But the sincere servants of God

illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn

37:41

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝٤١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

For them is sustenance determined

ulāika lahum riz'qun maʿlūmu

37:42

فَوَ ٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكۡرَمُونَ ۝٤٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

They will enjoy fruits, and honor and dignity

fawākihu wahum muk'ramūn

37:43

فِی جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِیمِ ۝٤٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

In gardens of felicity

fī jannāti l-naʿīm

37:44

عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِینَ ۝٤٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Facing each other on thrones

yuṭāfu ʿalayhim bikasin min maʿīni

37:45

یُطَافُ عَلَیۡهِم بِكَأۡسࣲ مِّن مَّعِینِۭ ۝٤٥

Round will be passed to them a cup from a clear-flowing fountain

Yutafu AAalayhim bika/sin min maAAeenin

37:46

بَیۡضَاۤءَ لَذَّةࣲ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِینَ ۝٤٦

White, of a taste delicious to those who drink of it

bayḍāa ladhatin lilshāribīn

37:47

لَا فِیهَا غَوۡلࣱ وَلَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا یُنزَفُونَ ۝٤٧

Free from harm, nor will they suffer intoxication from it

lā fīhā ghawlun walā hum ʿanhā yunzafūn

37:48

وَعِندَهُمۡ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ عِینࣱ ۝٤٨

And with them will be companions of modest gaze and beautiful eyes

waʿindahum qāṣirātu l-ṭarfi ʿīnu

37:49

كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَیۡضࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ ۝٤٩

Like delicate eggs closely guarded

ka-annahunna bayḍun maknūnu

37:50

فَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٥٠

Then they will turn to one another and question each other

fa-aqbala baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin yatasāalūn

37:51

قَالَ قَاۤىِٕلࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ إِنِّی كَانَ لِی قَرِینࣱ ۝٥١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

One of them will start the conversation by saying, “I had a friend

qāla qāilun min'hum innī kāna lī qarīnu

37:52

یَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُصَدِّقِینَ ۝٥٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Who used to say, ‘What, are you among those who bear witness to the truth

yaqūlu a-innaka lamina l-muṣadiqīn

37:53

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِینُونَ ۝٥٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“When we die and become dust and bones, will we indeed receive rewards and punishments?

a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamadīnūn

37:54

قَالَ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ ۝٥٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

A voice said, “Would you like to look down?

qāla hal antum muṭṭaliʿūn

37:55

فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِی سَوَاۤءِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٥٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He looked down and saw him in the middle of the fire

fa-iṭṭalaʿa faraāhu fī sawāi l-jaḥīm

37:56

قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرۡدِینِ ۝٥٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He said, “By God, you were just short of bringing me to perdition

qāla tal-lahi in kidtta latur'dīn

37:57

وَلَوۡلَا نِعۡمَةُ رَبِّی لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡضَرِینَ ۝٥٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Had it not been for the grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those sent there

walawlā niʿ'matu rabbī lakuntu mina l-muḥ'ḍarīn

37:58

أَفَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَیِّتِینَ ۝٥٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Is it the case that we will not die

afamā naḥnu bimayyitīn

37:59

إِلَّا مَوۡتَتَنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِینَ ۝٥٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Except our first death, and that we will not be punished?

illā mawtatanā l-ūlā wamā naḥnu bimuʿadhabīn

37:60

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٦٠

Indeed this is the greatest achievement

inna hādhā lahuwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

37:61

لِمِثۡلِ هَـٰذَا فَلۡیَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٦١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

For the like of this let all strive who wish to strive

limith'li hādhā falyaʿmali l-ʿāmilūn

37:62

أَذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرࣱ نُّزُلًا أَمۡ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ ۝٦٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum

adhālika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratu l-zaqūm

37:63

إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٦٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

For We have truly made it a trial for the wrongdoers

innā jaʿalnāhā fit'natan lilẓẓālimīn

37:64

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةࣱ تَخۡرُجُ فِیۤ أَصۡلِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٦٤

For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of hellfire

innahā shajaratun takhruju fī aṣli l-jaḥīm

37:65

طَلۡعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ ۝٦٥

The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils

ṭalʿuhā ka-annahu ruūsu l-shayāṭīn

37:66

فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَءَاكِلُونَ مِنۡهَا فَمَالِءُونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ۝٦٦

Truly they will eat of it and fill their stomachs

fa-innahum laākilūna min'hā famāliūna min'hā l-buṭūn

37:67

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمۡ عَلَیۡهَا لَشَوۡبࣰا مِّنۡ حَمِیمࣲ ۝٦٧

Then indeed on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water

thumma inna lahum ʿalayhā lashawban min ḥamīmi

37:68

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرۡجِعَهُمۡ لَإِلَى ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٦٨

Then their return will be to the fire

thumma inna marjiʿahum la-ilā l-jaḥīm

37:69

إِنَّهُمۡ أَلۡفَوۡا۟ ءَابَاۤءَهُمۡ ضَاۤلِّینَ ۝٦٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Truly they found their parents on the wrong path

innahum alfaw ābāahum ḍāllīn

37:70

فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمۡ یُهۡرَعُونَ ۝٧٠

So they were rushed down on their footsteps

fahum ʿalā āthārihim yuh'raʿūn

37:71

وَلَقَدۡ ضَلَّ قَبۡلَهُمۡ أَكۡثَرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٧١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray

walaqad ḍalla qablahum aktharu l-awalīn

37:72

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِیهِم مُّنذِرِینَ ۝٧٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But We sent among them, people to advise them

walaqad arsalnā fīhim mundhirīn

37:73

فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِینَ ۝٧٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then see what was the end of those who were advised

fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-mundharīn

37:74

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝٧٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Except the sincere servants of God

illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn

37:75

وَلَقَدۡ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحࣱ فَلَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمُجِیبُونَ ۝٧٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Noah called to Us, and We are the best to hear prayers

walaqad nādānā nūḥun falaniʿ'ma l-mujībūn

37:76

وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٧٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity

wanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu mina l-karbi l-ʿaẓīm

37:77

وَجَعَلۡنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلۡبَاقِینَ ۝٧٧

And made his progeny to endure

wajaʿalnā dhurriyyatahu humu l-bāqīn

37:78

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٧٨

And We left for him generations to come in later times

wataraknā ʿalayhi fī l-ākhirīn

37:79

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحࣲ فِی ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٧٩

Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations

salāmun ʿalā nūḥin fī l-ʿālamīn

37:80

إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝٨٠

Indeed we reward those who do right

innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn

37:81

إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨١

For he was one of our believing servants

innahu min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn

37:82

ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلۡءَاخَرِینَ ۝٨٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then the rest we overwhelmed in the flood

thumma aghraqnā l-ākharīn

37:83

۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِیعَتِهِۦ لَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ۝٨٣

Indeed among those who followed his way was Abraham

wa-inna min shīʿatihi la-ib'rāhīm

37:84

إِذۡ جَاۤءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلۡبࣲ سَلِیمٍ ۝٨٤

Behold, he approached his Lord with a pure heart

idh jāa rabbahu biqalbin salīmi

37:85

إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِیهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٨٥

Behold, he said to his father and to his people, “What is it you worship

idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mādhā taʿbudūn

37:86

أَىِٕفۡكًا ءَالِهَةࣰ دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِیدُونَ ۝٨٦

“Is it false gods instead of God that you desire

a-if'kan ālihatan dūna l-lahi turīdūn

37:87

فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٧

“Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?

famā ẓannukum birabbi l-ʿālamīn

37:88

فَنَظَرَ نَظۡرَةࣰ فِی ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٨٨

Then he cast a glance at the stars

fanaẓara naẓratan fī l-nujūm

37:89

فَقَالَ إِنِّی سَقِیمࣱ ۝٨٩

And he said, “I am indeed sick.

faqāla innī saqīmu

37:90

فَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٩٠

So they turned away from him, and departed

fatawallaw ʿanhu mud'birīn

37:91

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰۤ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٩١

Then he turned to their gods and said, “Will you not eat

farāgha ilā ālihatihim faqāla alā takulūn

37:92

مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ ۝٩٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“What is the matter with you that you do not speak?

mā lakum lā tanṭiqūn

37:93

فَرَاغَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٩٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then did he turn to them, striking them with the right hand

farāgha ʿalayhim ḍarban bil-yamīn

37:94

فَأَقۡبَلُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ یَزِفُّونَ ۝٩٤

Then they came with hurried steps, and faced him

fa-aqbalū ilayhi yaziffūn

37:95

قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ ۝٩٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He said, “You worship that which you have carved

qāla ataʿbudūna mā tanḥitūn

37:96

وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“But God has created you and that which you make.

wal-lahu khalaqakum wamā taʿmalūn

37:97

قَالُوا۟ ٱبۡنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنۡیَـٰنࣰا فَأَلۡقُوهُ فِی ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٩٧

They said, “Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire.

qālū ib'nū lahu bun'yānan fa-alqūhu fī l-jaḥīm

37:98

فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَیۡدࣰا فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِینَ ۝٩٨

They then sought another strategy against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated

fa-arādū bihi kaydan fajaʿalnāhumu l-asfalīn

37:99

وَقَالَ إِنِّی ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّی سَیَهۡدِینِ ۝٩٩

He said, “I will go to my Lord, He will surely guide me

waqāla innī dhāhibun ilā rabbī sayahdīn

37:100

رَبِّ هَبۡ لِی مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝١٠٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“O my Lord, grant me one from the righteous.

rabbi hab lī mina l-ṣāliḥīn

37:101

فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِیمࣲ ۝١٠١

So We gave him the good news of a child ready to sacrifice and forbear

fabasharnāhu bighulāmin ḥalīmi

37:102

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعۡیَ قَالَ یَـٰبُنَیَّ إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰ فِی ٱلۡمَنَامِ أَنِّیۤ أَذۡبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرۡ مَاذَا تَرَىٰۚ قَالَ یَـٰۤأَبَتِ ٱفۡعَلۡ مَا تُؤۡمَرُۖ سَتَجِدُنِیۤ إِن شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝١٠٢

Then when he reached the age of work he said, “O my son, I see in a vision that I offer you in sacrifice. Now tell me what you see?” The son said, “O my father, do as you are asked. You will find me, God willing, one practicing patience and constancy.

falammā balagha maʿahu l-saʿya qāla yābunayya innī arā fī l-manāmi annī adhbaḥuka fa-unẓur mādhā tarā qāla yāabati if'ʿal mā tu'maru satajidunī in shāa l-lahu mina l-ṣābirīn

37:103

فَلَمَّاۤ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلۡجَبِینِ ۝١٠٣

So when they both submitted their wills, and he laid him prostrate on his forehead

falammā aslamā watallahu lil'jabīn

37:104

وَنَـٰدَیۡنَـٰهُ أَن یَـٰۤإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ ۝١٠٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

We called out to him “O Abraham,

wanādaynāhu an yāib'rāhīm

37:105

قَدۡ صَدَّقۡتَ ٱلرُّءۡیَاۤۚ إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٠٥

“You have already fulfilled the vision.” Indeed We reward those who do right

qad ṣaddaqta l-ru'yā innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn

37:106

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰۤؤُا۟ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٠٦

For this was a challenge

inna hādhā lahuwa l-balāu l-mubīn

37:107

وَفَدَیۡنَـٰهُ بِذِبۡحٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١٠٧

And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice

wafadaynāhu bidhib'ḥin ʿaẓīmi

37:108

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١٠٨

And We left this blessing for him among generations to come

wataraknā ʿalayhi fī l-ākhirīn

37:109

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ۝١٠٩

“Peace and salutation to Abraham.

salāmun ʿalā ib'rāhīm

37:110

كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١١٠

Indeed We reward those who do right

kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn

37:111

إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١١١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

For he was one of our believing servants

innahu min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn

37:112

وَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِإِسۡحَـٰقَ نَبِیࣰّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝١١٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We gave him the good news of Isaac, a prophet, one of the righteous

wabasharnāhu bi-is'ḥāqa nabiyyan mina l-ṣāliḥīn

37:113

وَبَـٰرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ وَعَلَىٰۤ إِسۡحَـٰقَۚ وَمِن ذُرِّیَّتِهِمَا مُحۡسِنࣱ وَظَالِمࣱ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ مُبِینࣱ ۝١١٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

We blessed him and Isaac, but of their progeny are some who do right and some who do wrong, to their own souls

wabāraknā ʿalayhi waʿalā is'ḥāqa wamin dhurriyyatihimā muḥ'sinun waẓālimun linafsihi mubīnu

37:114

وَلَقَدۡ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ۝١١٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Again We bestowed Our favor on Moses and Aaron

walaqad manannā ʿalā mūsā wahārūn

37:115

وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوۡمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝١١٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We delivered them and their people from great calamity

wanajjaynāhumā waqawmahumā mina l-karbi l-ʿaẓīm

37:116

وَنَصَرۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبِینَ ۝١١٦

And We helped them, so they overcame

wanaṣarnāhum fakānū humu l-ghālibīn

37:117

وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَبِینَ ۝١١٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We gave them the Clear Books

waātaynāhumā l-kitāba l-mus'tabīn

37:118

وَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَ ٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِیمَ ۝١١٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We guided them to the straight way

wahadaynāhumā l-ṣirāṭa l-mus'taqīm

37:119

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١١٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We left this blessing for them among generations to come

wataraknā ʿalayhimā fī l-ākhirīn

37:120

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ۝١٢٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Peace and salutation to Moses and Aaron.

salāmun ʿalā mūsā wahārūn

37:121

إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٢١

So indeed We reward those who do right

innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn

37:122

إِنَّهُمَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٢٢

For they were two of our believing servants

innahumā min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn

37:123

وَإِنَّ إِلۡیَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٢٣

Elias was also among those sent by Us

wa-inna il'yāsa lamina l-mur'salīn

37:124

إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝١٢٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Behold, he said to his people, “Will you not be conscious

idh qāla liqawmihi alā tattaqūn

37:125

أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلࣰا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ ۝١٢٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Will you call upon Baal and abandon the Best of Creators

atadʿūna baʿlan watadharūna aḥsana l-khāliqīn

37:126

ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡ وَرَبَّ ءَابَاۤىِٕكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٢٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Your Lord and the Lord of your ancestors?

al-laha rabbakum warabba ābāikumu l-awalīn

37:127

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ ۝١٢٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But they rejected him, and they will certainly be called up

fakadhabūhu fa-innahum lamuḥ'ḍarūn

37:128

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝١٢٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Except the sincere and devoted servants of God

illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn

37:129

وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١٢٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We left this blessing for him among generations to come

wataraknā ʿalayhi fī l-ākhirīn

37:130

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰۤ إِلۡ یَاسِینَ ۝١٣٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Peace be upon Elias.

salāmun ʿalā il yāsīn

37:131

إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٣١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then indeed do We reward those who do right

innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn

37:132

إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٣٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

For he was one of our believing servants

innahu min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn

37:133

وَإِنَّ لُوطࣰا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٣٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Lot was also among those sent by Us

wa-inna lūṭan lamina l-mur'salīn

37:134

إِذۡ نَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥۤ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝١٣٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Behold, We delivered him and all his adherents

idh najjaynāhu wa-ahlahu ajmaʿīn

37:135

إِلَّا عَجُوزࣰا فِی ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِینَ ۝١٣٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Except an old woman who was among those who lagged behind

illā ʿajūzan fī l-ghābirīn

37:136

ثُمَّ دَمَّرۡنَا ٱلۡءَاخَرِینَ ۝١٣٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then We caused the rest to perish

thumma dammarnā l-ākharīn

37:137

وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَیۡهِم مُّصۡبِحِینَ ۝١٣٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Indeed you pass by their sites, by day

wa-innakum latamurrūna ʿalayhim muṣ'biḥīn

37:138

وَبِٱلَّیۡلِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٣٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And by night. Then will you not use reason

wabi-al-layli afalā taʿqilūn

37:139

وَإِنَّ یُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٣٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Jonah was also among those sent by Us

wa-inna yūnusa lamina l-mur'salīn

37:140

إِذۡ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ۝١٤٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

When he ran away to the ship fully stocked

idh abaqa ilā l-ful'ki l-mashḥūn

37:141

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُدۡحَضِینَ ۝١٤١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He cast lots, and he was condemned

fasāhama fakāna mina l-mud'ḥaḍīn

37:142

فَٱلۡتَقَمَهُ ٱلۡحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِیمࣱ ۝١٤٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then the fish swallowed him. He had done things worthy of blame

fal-taqamahu l-ḥūtu wahuwa mulīmu

37:143

فَلَوۡلَاۤ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحِینَ ۝١٤٣

Had it not been that he glorified God

falawlā annahu kāna mina l-musabiḥīn

37:144

لَلَبِثَ فِی بَطۡنِهِۦۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٤٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

He would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection

lalabitha fī baṭnihi ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

37:145

۞ فَنَبَذۡنَـٰهُ بِٱلۡعَرَاۤءِ وَهُوَ سَقِیمࣱ ۝١٤٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

But We cast him up on the naked shore in a state of sickness

fanabadhnāhu bil-ʿarāi wahuwa saqīmu

37:146

وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ شَجَرَةࣰ مِّن یَقۡطِینࣲ ۝١٤٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We caused to grow over him a spreading plant of the gourd kind

wa-anbatnā ʿalayhi shajaratan min yaqṭīni

37:147

وَأَرۡسَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلۡفٍ أَوۡ یَزِیدُونَ ۝١٤٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And We sent him to a hundred thousand people or more

wa-arsalnāhu ilā mi-ati alfin aw yazīdūn

37:148

فَءَامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝١٤٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And they believed. So We permitted them to enjoy their time

faāmanū famattaʿnāhum ilā ḥīni

37:149

فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ ۝١٤٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then ask them, do the females belong to God and the males to you

fa-is'taftihim alirabbika l-banātu walahumu l-banūn

37:150

أَمۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ إِنَـٰثࣰا وَهُمۡ شَـٰهِدُونَ ۝١٥٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Or did you see Us create the angels female

am khalaqnā l-malāikata ināthan wahum shāhidūn

37:151

أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُم مِّنۡ إِفۡكِهِمۡ لَیَقُولُونَ ۝١٥١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Is it not that they say falsely

alā innahum min if'kihim layaqūlūn

37:152

وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝١٥٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“God has children”? But they are liars

walada l-lahu wa-innahum lakādhibūn

37:153

أَصۡطَفَى ٱلۡبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلۡبَنِینَ ۝١٥٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Did He choose daughters over sons

aṣṭafā l-banāti ʿalā l-banīn

37:154

مَا لَكُمۡ كَیۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ ۝١٥٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

What is the matter with you? How judge you

mā lakum kayfa taḥkumūn

37:155

أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝١٥٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Will you not then receive advice

afalā tadhakkarūn

37:156

أَمۡ لَكُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٥٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Or have you an authority manifest

am lakum sul'ṭānun mubīnu

37:157

فَأۡتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٥٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Then bring your book if you are truthful

fatū bikitābikum in kuntum ṣādiqīn

37:158

وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَیۡنَهُۥ وَبَیۡنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ نَسَبࣰاۚ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمَتِ ٱلۡجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ ۝١٥٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And they have created a blood relationship between Him and the jinn. But the jinn know that they have indeed to appear

wajaʿalū baynahu wabayna l-jinati nasaban walaqad ʿalimati l-jinatu innahum lamuḥ'ḍarūn

37:159

سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝١٥٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Glory be to God, He is free from the things they ascribe to Him

sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yaṣifūn

37:160

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝١٦٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Not so the servants of God, sincere and devoted

illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn

37:161

فَإِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝١٦١

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Indeed neither you nor those you worship

fa-innakum wamā taʿbudūn

37:162

مَاۤ أَنتُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ بِفَـٰتِنِینَ ۝١٦٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Can lead any into temptation concerning God

mā antum ʿalayhi bifātinīn

37:163

إِلَّا مَنۡ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝١٦٣

Bilal Muhammad 2018

Except those whom are themselves heading to the blazing fire

illā man huwa ṣāli l-jaḥīm

37:164

وَمَا مِنَّاۤ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝١٦٤

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“Not us, only for him is a place known

wamā minnā illā lahu maqāmun maʿlūmu

37:165

وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلصَّاۤفُّونَ ۝١٦٥

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“And indeed we are arranged in ranks

wa-innā lanaḥnu l-ṣāfūn

37:166

وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحُونَ ۝١٦٦

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“And we are indeed those who declare God's glory.

wa-innā lanaḥnu l-musabiḥūn

37:167

وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَیَقُولُونَ ۝١٦٧

Bilal Muhammad 2018

And there were those who said

wa-in kānū layaqūlūn

37:168

لَوۡ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكۡرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٦٨

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“If only we had before us a message from those in the past

law anna ʿindanā dhik'ran mina l-awalīn

37:169

لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝١٦٩

Bilal Muhammad 2018

“We would certainly have been servants of God, sincere.

lakunnā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn

37:170

فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦۖ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٧٠

Bilal Muhammad 2018

So they reject it, but soon will they know

fakafarū bihi fasawfa yaʿlamūn

37:171

وَلَقَدۡ سَبَقَتۡ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٧١

Our word has already been passed on before to Our servants sent by Us

walaqad sabaqat kalimatunā liʿibādinā l-mur'salīn

37:172

إِنَّهُمۡ لَهُمُ ٱلۡمَنصُورُونَ ۝١٧٢

Bilal Muhammad 2018

So that they would certainly be assisted

innahum lahumu l-manṣūrūn

37:173

وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبُونَ ۝١٧٣

And that Our forces surely must conquer

wa-inna jundanā lahumu l-ghālibūn

37:174

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝١٧٤

So turn away from them for a little while

fatawalla ʿanhum ḥattā ḥīni

37:175

وَأَبۡصِرۡهُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٧٥

And watch them, and they soon will see

wa-abṣir'hum fasawfa yub'ṣirūn

37:176

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا یَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ ۝١٧٦

Do they wish to rush our punishment

afabiʿadhābinā yastaʿjilūn

37:177

فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمۡ فَسَاۤءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِینَ ۝١٧٧

But when it descends into the open space before them, terrible will be the morning for those who were warned

fa-idhā nazala bisāḥatihim fasāa ṣabāḥu l-mundharīn

37:178

وَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝١٧٨

So turn away from them for a little while

watawalla ʿanhum ḥattā ḥīni

37:179

وَأَبۡصِرۡ فَسَوۡفَ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٧٩

And watch and they soon will see

wa-abṣir fasawfa yub'ṣirūn

37:180

سُبۡحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلۡعِزَّةِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝١٨٠

Glory to your Lord, the Lord of Honor and Power, free from what they ascribe to Him

sub'ḥāna rabbika rabbi l-ʿizati ʿammā yaṣifūn

37:181

وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٨١

And peace on the messengers

wasalāmun ʿalā l-mur'salīn

37:182

وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٨٢

And praise God, the Guardian Evolver of all the worlds

wal-ḥamdu lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīn
