1 Unity will prevail
37:1 ›
وَٱلصَّـٰۤفَّـٰتِ صَفࣰّا ۝١
Hamid S. Aziz
I swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks
wal-ṣāfāti ṣaffa
37:2 ›
فَٱلزَّ ٰجِرَ ٰتِ زَجۡرࣰا ۝٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Then those who drive away (evil or the wicked) with reproof (or strength)
fal-zājirāti zajra
37:3 ›
فَٱلتَّـٰلِیَـٰتِ ذِكۡرًا ۝٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Then those who recite (proclaim), with mindfulness
fal-tāliyāti dhik'ra
37:4 ›
إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمۡ لَوَ ٰحِدࣱ ۝٤
Hamid S. Aziz
"Verily, verily your God is One
inna ilāhakum lawāḥidu
37:5 ›
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَشَـٰرِقِ ۝٥
Hamid S. Aziz
"The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and Lord of the Easts (i.e. all the sun´s rising point)."
rabbu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā warabbu l-mashāriq
37:6 ›
إِنَّا زَیَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا بِزِینَةٍ ٱلۡكَوَاكِبِ ۝٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars
innā zayyannā l-samāa l-dun'yā bizīnatin l-kawākib
37:7 ›
وَحِفۡظࣰا مِّن كُلِّ شَیۡطَـٰنࣲ مَّارِدࣲ ۝٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Satan
waḥif'ẓan min kulli shayṭānin māridi
37:8 ›
لَّا یَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ وَیُقۡذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبࣲ ۝٨
Hamid S. Aziz
They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side
lā yassammaʿūna ilā l-mala-i l-aʿlā wayuq'dhafūna min kulli jānibi
37:9 ›
دُحُورࣰاۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ وَاصِبٌ ۝٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Being driven off, and for them is a perpetual chastisement
duḥūran walahum ʿadhābun wāṣibu
37:10 ›
إِلَّا مَنۡ خَطِفَ ٱلۡخَطۡفَةَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابࣱ ثَاقِبࣱ ۝١٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Except him who snatches a fragment by stealth, then there follows him a brightly shining flame
illā man khaṭifa l-khaṭfata fa-atbaʿahu shihābun thāqibu
37:11 ›
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَهُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَم مَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَاۤۚ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّن طِینࣲ لَّازِبِۭ ۝١١
Hamid S. Aziz
Then ask them whether they are stronger in creation or those (others) whom We have created. Surely We created them of plastic (malleable) clay
fa-is'taftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnā innā khalaqnāhum min ṭīnin lāzibi
37:12 ›
بَلۡ عَجِبۡتَ وَیَسۡخَرُونَ ۝١٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Nay! You wonder while they mock
bal ʿajib'ta wayaskharūn
37:13 ›
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا یَذۡكُرُونَ ۝١٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And when they are reminded, they mind (heed) not
wa-idhā dhukkirū lā yadhkurūn
37:14 ›
وَإِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ ءَایَةࣰ یَسۡتَسۡخِرُونَ ۝١٤
Hamid S. Aziz
And when they see a sign they incite one another to scoff
wa-idhā ra-aw āyatan yastaskhirūn
37:15 ›
وَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝١٥
Hamid S. Aziz
And they say, "This is nothing but clear magic
waqālū in hādhā illā siḥ'run mubīnu
37:16 ›
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝١٦
Hamid S. Aziz
"What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then certainly be raised
a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn
37:17 ›
أَوَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝١٧
Hamid S. Aziz
"Or our fathers of past times (ancestors)?"
awaābāunā l-awalūn
37:18 ›
قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَ ٰخِرُونَ ۝١٨
Hamid S. Aziz
Say, "Aye! And you shall be abject (humiliated)."
qul naʿam wa-antum dākhirūn
37:19 ›
فَإِنَّمَا هِیَ زَجۡرَةࣱ وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ فَإِذَا هُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝١٩
Hamid S. Aziz
So it shall only be a single Shout, when lo! They shall see
fa-innamā hiya zajratun wāḥidatun fa-idhā hum yanẓurūn
37:20 ›
وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٢٠
Hamid S. Aziz
And they shall say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment."
waqālū yāwaylanā hādhā yawmu l-dīn
37:21 ›
هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ ٱلَّذِی كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٢١
Hamid S. Aziz
(A voice will say,) "This is the Day of the Judgment which you called a lie
hādhā yawmu l-faṣli alladhī kuntum bihi tukadhibūn
2 The Judgment
37:22 ›
۞ ٱحۡشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٢٢
Hamid S. Aziz
"Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worshi
uḥ'shurū alladhīna ẓalamū wa-azwājahum wamā kānū yaʿbudūn
37:23 ›
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهۡدُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٢٣
Hamid S. Aziz
"Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell
min dūni l-lahi fa-ih'dūhum ilā ṣirāṭi l-jaḥīm
37:24 ›
وَقِفُوهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسۡءُولُونَ ۝٢٤
Hamid S. Aziz
"And stop them, for they must be questioned
waqifūhum innahum masūlūn
37:25 ›
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ ۝٢٥
Hamid S. Aziz
"What ails you that you do not help each other?"
mā lakum lā tanāṣarūn
37:26 ›
بَلۡ هُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ مُسۡتَسۡلِمُونَ ۝٢٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Nay! On that day they shall be submissive
bal humu l-yawma mus'taslimūn
37:27 ›
وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٢٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other
wa-aqbala baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin yatasāalūn
37:28 ›
قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَأۡتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٢٨
Hamid S. Aziz
They shall say, "Surely you used to come to us from the right hand side."
qālū innakum kuntum tatūnanā ʿani l-yamīn
37:29 ›
قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٢٩
Hamid S. Aziz
They shall say, "Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers
qālū bal lam takūnū mu'minīn
37:30 ›
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَیۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنِۭۖ بَلۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰا طَـٰغِینَ ۝٣٠
Hamid S. Aziz
"And we had no authority over you, but you were a wayward people
wamā kāna lanā ʿalaykum min sul'ṭānin bal kuntum qawman ṭāghīn
37:31 ›
فَحَقَّ عَلَیۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَاۤۖ إِنَّا لَذَاۤىِٕقُونَ ۝٣١
Hamid S. Aziz
"So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: we shall surely taste (punishment)
faḥaqqa ʿalaynā qawlu rabbinā innā ladhāiqūn
37:32 ›
فَأَغۡوَیۡنَـٰكُمۡ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِینَ ۝٣٢
Hamid S. Aziz
"We led you astray, for we were ourselves erring."
fa-aghwaynākum innā kunnā ghāwīn
37:33 ›
فَإِنَّهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ ۝٣٣
Hamid S. Aziz
So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another
fa-innahum yawma-idhin fī l-ʿadhābi mush'tarikūn
37:34 ›
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٣٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely thus do We deal with the guilty
innā kadhālika nafʿalu bil-muj'rimīn
37:35 ›
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۤا۟ إِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٣٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely they used to behave arrogantly when it was said to them, "There is no God but Allah."
innahum kānū idhā qīla lahum lā ilāha illā l-lahu yastakbirūn
37:36 ›
وَیَقُولُونَ أَىِٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوۤا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرࣲ مَّجۡنُونِۭ ۝٣٦
Hamid S. Aziz
And said, "What! Shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet?"
wayaqūlūna a-innā latārikū ālihatinā lishāʿirin majnūni
37:37 ›
بَلۡ جَاۤءَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٣٧
Hamid S. Aziz
Nay, he has come with the truth and verified the (messages of) the Messengers sent before him
bal jāa bil-ḥaqi waṣaddaqa l-mur'salīn
37:38 ›
إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَاۤىِٕقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِیمِ ۝٣٨
Hamid S. Aziz
Most surely you will taste the painful punishment
innakum ladhāiqū l-ʿadhābi l-alīm
37:39 ›
وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٣٩
Hamid S. Aziz
And you shall not be punished except for what you did
wamā tuj'zawna illā mā kuntum taʿmalūn
37:40 ›
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝٤٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones
illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn
37:41 ›
أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝٤١
Hamid S. Aziz
For them is a determined sustenance
ulāika lahum riz'qun maʿlūmu
37:42 ›
فَوَ ٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكۡرَمُونَ ۝٤٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Fruits, and they shall be highly honoured
fawākihu wahum muk'ramūn
37:43 ›
فِی جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِیمِ ۝٤٣
Hamid S. Aziz
In Gardens of Felicity
fī jannāti l-naʿīm
37:44 ›
عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِینَ ۝٤٤
Hamid S. Aziz
On Thrones (of Dignity), facing each other
yuṭāfu ʿalayhim bikasin min maʿīni
37:45 ›
یُطَافُ عَلَیۡهِم بِكَأۡسࣲ مِّن مَّعِینِۭ ۝٤٥
Hamid S. Aziz
A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of clear springs
Yutafu AAalayhim bika/sin min maAAeenin
37:46 ›
بَیۡضَاۤءَ لَذَّةࣲ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِینَ ۝٤٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Crystal-white, delicious to those who drink
bayḍāa ladhatin lilshāribīn
37:47 ›
لَا فِیهَا غَوۡلࣱ وَلَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا یُنزَفُونَ ۝٤٧
Hamid S. Aziz
There shall be no distress in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith
lā fīhā ghawlun walā hum ʿanhā yunzafūn
37:48 ›
وَعِندَهُمۡ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ عِینࣱ ۝٤٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And with them shall be those of modest gaze with large beautiful eyes
waʿindahum qāṣirātu l-ṭarfi ʿīnu
37:49 ›
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَیۡضࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ ۝٤٩
Hamid S. Aziz
As if they were delicate eggs carefully protected
ka-annahunna bayḍun maknūnu
37:50 ›
فَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٥٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Then shall some of them turn to others, questioning each other
fa-aqbala baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin yatasāalūn
37:51 ›
قَالَ قَاۤىِٕلࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ إِنِّی كَانَ لِی قَرِینࣱ ۝٥١
Hamid S. Aziz
A speaker from among them shall say, "Surely I had a comrade on earth
qāla qāilun min'hum innī kāna lī qarīnu
37:52 ›
یَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُصَدِّقِینَ ۝٥٢
Hamid S. Aziz
"Who said, ´What! are you indeed of those who bear witness to (the truth)
yaqūlu a-innaka lamina l-muṣadiqīn
37:53 ›
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِینُونَ ۝٥٣
Hamid S. Aziz
"´What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, indeed, be brought to judgment?´"
a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamadīnūn
37:54 ›
قَالَ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ ۝٥٤
Hamid S. Aziz
(A voice) Will say, "Will you look down?"
qāla hal antum muṭṭaliʿūn
37:55 ›
فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِی سَوَاۤءِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٥٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell
fa-iṭṭalaʿa faraāhu fī sawāi l-jaḥīm
37:56 ›
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرۡدِینِ ۝٥٦
Hamid S. Aziz
He shall say (to the sceptic), "By Allah! You had almost caused me to perish
qāla tal-lahi in kidtta latur'dīn
37:57 ›
وَلَوۡلَا نِعۡمَةُ رَبِّی لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡضَرِینَ ۝٥٧
Hamid S. Aziz
"And had it not been for the grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought there
walawlā niʿ'matu rabbī lakuntu mina l-muḥ'ḍarīn
37:58 ›
أَفَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَیِّتِینَ ۝٥٨
Hamid S. Aziz
"Is it then true that we shall not die
afamā naḥnu bimayyitīn
37:59 ›
إِلَّا مَوۡتَتَنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِینَ ۝٥٩
Hamid S. Aziz
"Except our previous death? And that we shall not be chastised?"
illā mawtatanā l-ūlā wamā naḥnu bimuʿadhabīn
37:60 ›
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٦٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Most surely this is the supreme achievement
inna hādhā lahuwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm
37:61 ›
لِمِثۡلِ هَـٰذَا فَلۡیَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٦١
Hamid S. Aziz
For the like of this then let the workers work
limith'li hādhā falyaʿmali l-ʿāmilūn
37:62 ›
أَذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرࣱ نُّزُلًا أَمۡ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ ۝٦٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (having bitter fruit)
adhālika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratu l-zaqūm
37:63 ›
إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٦٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust
innā jaʿalnāhā fit'natan lilẓẓālimīn
37:64 ›
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةࣱ تَخۡرُجُ فِیۤ أَصۡلِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٦٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely it is a tree that grows in the bottom of hell
innahā shajaratun takhruju fī aṣli l-jaḥīm
37:65 ›
طَلۡعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ ۝٦٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents (or devils)
ṭalʿuhā ka-annahu ruūsu l-shayāṭīn
37:66 ›
فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَءَاكِلُونَ مِنۡهَا فَمَالِءُونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ۝٦٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Then verily, they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it
fa-innahum laākilūna min'hā famāliūna min'hā l-buṭūn
37:67 ›
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمۡ عَلَیۡهَا لَشَوۡبࣰا مِّنۡ حَمِیمࣲ ۝٦٧
Hamid S. Aziz
Then afterwards they shall drink a mixture prepared in boiling water
thumma inna lahum ʿalayhā lashawban min ḥamīmi
37:68 ›
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرۡجِعَهُمۡ لَإِلَى ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٦٨
Hamid S. Aziz
Then most surely their return shall be to hell
thumma inna marjiʿahum la-ilā l-jaḥīm
37:69 ›
إِنَّهُمۡ أَلۡفَوۡا۟ ءَابَاۤءَهُمۡ ضَاۤلِّینَ ۝٦٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Certainly, they found their fathers going astray
innahum alfaw ābāahum ḍāllīn
37:70 ›
فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمۡ یُهۡرَعُونَ ۝٧٠
Hamid S. Aziz
So in their footsteps they hasten on
fahum ʿalā āthārihim yuh'raʿūn
37:71 ›
وَلَقَدۡ ضَلَّ قَبۡلَهُمۡ أَكۡثَرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٧١
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them
walaqad ḍalla qablahum aktharu l-awalīn
37:72 ›
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِیهِم مُّنذِرِینَ ۝٧٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We sent among them Warners
walaqad arsalnā fīhim mundhirīn
37:73 ›
فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِینَ ۝٧٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Then see what was the end of those who were warned
fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-mundharīn
37:74 ›
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝٧٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones
illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn
3 Noah and Abraham
37:75 ›
وَلَقَدۡ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحࣱ فَلَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمُجِیبُونَ ۝٧٥
Hamid S. Aziz
And Noah did certainly call upon Us, and the most gracious of Hearer of prayer are We
walaqad nādānā nūḥun falaniʿ'ma l-mujībūn
37:76 ›
وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٧٦
Hamid S. Aziz
And We delivered him and his followers from the mighty distress
wanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu mina l-karbi l-ʿaẓīm
37:77 ›
وَجَعَلۡنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلۡبَاقِینَ ۝٧٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And We made his offspring the survivors
wajaʿalnā dhurriyyatahu humu l-bāqīn
37:78 ›
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٧٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And We perpetuated to him praise among the later generations
wataraknā ʿalayhi fī l-ākhirīn
37:79 ›
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحࣲ فِی ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٧٩
Hamid S. Aziz
(This blessing) "Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations"
salāmun ʿalā nūḥin fī l-ʿālamīn
37:80 ›
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝٨٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Thus do We surely reward the doers of good
innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn
37:81 ›
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨١
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely he was of Our believing servants
innahu min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn
37:82 ›
ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلۡءَاخَرِینَ ۝٨٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Then did We drown the other
thumma aghraqnā l-ākharīn
37:83 ›
۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِیعَتِهِۦ لَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ۝٨٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And most surely Abraham followed his way
wa-inna min shīʿatihi la-ib'rāhīm
37:84 ›
إِذۡ جَاۤءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلۡبࣲ سَلِیمٍ ۝٨٤
Hamid S. Aziz
When he came to his Lord with a whole (sound, pure) heart
idh jāa rabbahu biqalbin salīmi
37:85 ›
إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِیهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٨٥
Hamid S. Aziz
When he said to his father and his people, " What is it that you worship?"
idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mādhā taʿbudūn
37:86 ›
أَىِٕفۡكًا ءَالِهَةࣰ دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِیدُونَ ۝٨٦
Hamid S. Aziz
"Is it lies - gods besides Allah - that you desire
a-if'kan ālihatan dūna l-lahi turīdūn
37:87 ›
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٧
Hamid S. Aziz
"What is then your idea about the Lord of the Worlds?"
famā ẓannukum birabbi l-ʿālamīn
37:88 ›
فَنَظَرَ نَظۡرَةࣰ فِی ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٨٨
Hamid S. Aziz
Then he looked at the stars, looking up once
fanaẓara naẓratan fī l-nujūm
37:89 ›
فَقَالَ إِنِّی سَقِیمࣱ ۝٨٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Then he said, "Verily, I am sick (at heart of your worshipping these)."
faqāla innī saqīmu
37:90 ›
فَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٩٠
Hamid S. Aziz
So they turned their backs and went away
fatawallaw ʿanhu mud'birīn
37:91 ›
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰۤ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٩١
Hamid S. Aziz
Then he turned to their gods secretly and said, "What! Do you not eat
farāgha ilā ālihatihim faqāla alā takulūn
37:92 ›
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ ۝٩٢
Hamid S. Aziz
"What is the matter with you that you do not speak?"
mā lakum lā tanṭiqūn
37:93 ›
فَرَاغَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٩٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Then he attacked them, smiting them with his right hand
farāgha ʿalayhim ḍarban bil-yamīn
37:94 ›
فَأَقۡبَلُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ یَزِفُّونَ ۝٩٤
Hamid S. Aziz
So they (people) advanced towards him, hastening
fa-aqbalū ilayhi yaziffūn
37:95 ›
قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ ۝٩٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Said he, "Worship you what you yourselves carve out
qāla ataʿbudūna mā tanḥitūn
37:96 ›
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٦
Hamid S. Aziz
"When Allah has created you and what you make?"
wal-lahu khalaqakum wamā taʿmalūn
37:97 ›
قَالُوا۟ ٱبۡنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنۡیَـٰنࣰا فَأَلۡقُوهُ فِی ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٩٧
Hamid S. Aziz
They said, "Build for him a furnace, then cast him into the burning fire."
qālū ib'nū lahu bun'yānan fa-alqūhu fī l-jaḥīm
37:98 ›
فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَیۡدࣰا فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِینَ ۝٩٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And they designed a plot against him, but We brought them low
fa-arādū bihi kaydan fajaʿalnāhumu l-asfalīn
37:99 ›
وَقَالَ إِنِّی ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّی سَیَهۡدِینِ ۝٩٩
Hamid S. Aziz
And he said, "Surely I flee to my lord; He will guide me
waqāla innī dhāhibun ilā rabbī sayahdīn
37:100 ›
رَبِّ هَبۡ لِی مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝١٠٠
Hamid S. Aziz
"My Lord! Grant me those who do good deeds."
rabbi hab lī mina l-ṣāliḥīn
37:101 ›
فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِیمࣲ ۝١٠١
Hamid S. Aziz
So We gave him the good news of a gentle son
fabasharnāhu bighulāmin ḥalīmi
37:102 ›
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعۡیَ قَالَ یَـٰبُنَیَّ إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰ فِی ٱلۡمَنَامِ أَنِّیۤ أَذۡبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرۡ مَاذَا تَرَىٰۚ قَالَ یَـٰۤأَبَتِ ٱفۡعَلۡ مَا تُؤۡمَرُۖ سَتَجِدُنِیۤ إِن شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝١٠٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And when his son was old enough to work with him, he said, "O my son! Surely I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice you; consider then what do you think." He said. "O my father! Do what you are commanded; if Allah wills, you will f
falammā balagha maʿahu l-saʿya qāla yābunayya innī arā fī l-manāmi annī adhbaḥuka fa-unẓur mādhā tarā qāla yāabati if'ʿal mā tu'maru satajidunī in shāa l-lahu mina l-ṣābirīn
37:103 ›
فَلَمَّاۤ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلۡجَبِینِ ۝١٠٣
Hamid S. Aziz
So when they had both Surrendered (unto Allah in Islam) and he threw him down upon his face
falammā aslamā watallahu lil'jabīn
37:104 ›
وَنَـٰدَیۡنَـٰهُ أَن یَـٰۤإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ ۝١٠٤
Hamid S. Aziz
And We called out to him saying, "O Abraham
wanādaynāhu an yāib'rāhīm
37:105 ›
قَدۡ صَدَّقۡتَ ٱلرُّءۡیَاۤۚ إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٠٥
Hamid S. Aziz
You have indeed fulfiled the vision; surely thus do We reward the doers of good
qad ṣaddaqta l-ru'yā innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn
37:106 ›
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰۤؤُا۟ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٠٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Most surely this is a manifest trial
inna hādhā lahuwa l-balāu l-mubīn
37:107 ›
وَفَدَیۡنَـٰهُ بِذِبۡحٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١٠٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice
wafadaynāhu bidhib'ḥin ʿaẓīmi
37:108 ›
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١٠٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And We perpetuated to him among the later generations
wataraknā ʿalayhi fī l-ākhirīn
37:109 ›
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ۝١٠٩
Hamid S. Aziz
(This blessing) "Peace be on Abraham"
salāmun ʿalā ib'rāhīm
37:110 ›
كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١١٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Thus do We reward the doers of good
kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn
37:111 ›
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١١١
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely he was one of Our believing servants
innahu min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn
37:112 ›
وَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِإِسۡحَـٰقَ نَبِیࣰّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝١١٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And We gave him the good news of Isaac, a prophet among the righteous
wabasharnāhu bi-is'ḥāqa nabiyyan mina l-ṣāliḥīn
37:113 ›
وَبَـٰرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ وَعَلَىٰۤ إِسۡحَـٰقَۚ وَمِن ذُرِّیَّتِهِمَا مُحۡسِنࣱ وَظَالِمࣱ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ مُبِینࣱ ۝١١٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And We showered Our blessings on him and on Isaac; and of their offspring are some who do good, and also some who are clearly unjust to their own souls
wabāraknā ʿalayhi waʿalā is'ḥāqa wamin dhurriyyatihimā muḥ'sinun waẓālimun linafsihi mubīnu
4 Moses, Aaron, Elias and Lot
37:114 ›
وَلَقَدۡ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ۝١١٤
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We conferred a favour on Moses and Aaron
walaqad manannā ʿalā mūsā wahārūn
37:115 ›
وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوۡمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝١١٥
Hamid S. Aziz
And We delivered them both and their people from the mighty distress
wanajjaynāhumā waqawmahumā mina l-karbi l-ʿaẓīm
37:116 ›
وَنَصَرۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبِینَ ۝١١٦
Hamid S. Aziz
And We helped them, so they became the victors
wanaṣarnāhum fakānū humu l-ghālibīn
37:117 ›
وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَبِینَ ۝١١٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And We gave them both the Book that clarifies
waātaynāhumā l-kitāba l-mus'tabīn
37:118 ›
وَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَ ٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِیمَ ۝١١٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And We guided them both on the Straight Way
wahadaynāhumā l-ṣirāṭa l-mus'taqīm
37:119 ›
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١١٩
Hamid S. Aziz
And We perpetuated to them among the later generations
wataraknā ʿalayhimā fī l-ākhirīn
37:120 ›
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ۝١٢٠
Hamid S. Aziz
(This blessing) "Peace be on Moses and Aaron"
salāmun ʿalā mūsā wahārūn
37:121 ›
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٢١
Hamid S. Aziz
Even thus do We reward the doers of good
innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn
37:122 ›
إِنَّهُمَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٢٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely they were both of Our believing servants
innahumā min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn
37:123 ›
وَإِنَّ إِلۡیَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٢٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And Elias was most surely one of those sent
wa-inna il'yāsa lamina l-mur'salīn
37:124 ›
إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝١٢٤
Hamid S. Aziz
When he said to his people, "Do you not guard (against evil)
idh qāla liqawmihi alā tattaqūn
37:125 ›
أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلࣰا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ ۝١٢٥
Hamid S. Aziz
"What! Do you call upon Baal and forsake the best of Creators
atadʿūna baʿlan watadharūna aḥsana l-khāliqīn
37:126 ›
ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡ وَرَبَّ ءَابَاۤىِٕكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٢٦
Hamid S. Aziz
"Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of past times (ancestors)?"
al-laha rabbakum warabba ābāikumu l-awalīn
37:127 ›
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ ۝١٢٧
Hamid S. Aziz
But they called him a liar, therefore they shall most surely be brought forth (to the doom)
fakadhabūhu fa-innahum lamuḥ'ḍarūn
37:128 ›
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝١٢٨
Hamid S. Aziz
But not the servants of Allah, the purified ones
illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn
37:129 ›
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١٢٩
Hamid S. Aziz
And We perpetuated to him among the later generations
wataraknā ʿalayhi fī l-ākhirīn
37:130 ›
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰۤ إِلۡ یَاسِینَ ۝١٣٠
Hamid S. Aziz
(This blessing) "Peace be on Elias"
salāmun ʿalā il yāsīn
37:131 ›
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٣١
Hamid S. Aziz
Even thus do We reward the doers of good
innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn
37:132 ›
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٣٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely he was one of Our believing servants
innahu min ʿibādinā l-mu'minīn
37:133 ›
وَإِنَّ لُوطࣰا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٣٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And Lot was most surely one of those sent
wa-inna lūṭan lamina l-mur'salīn
37:134 ›
إِذۡ نَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥۤ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝١٣٤
Hamid S. Aziz
When We delivered him and his followers, everyon
idh najjaynāhu wa-ahlahu ajmaʿīn
37:135 ›
إِلَّا عَجُوزࣰا فِی ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِینَ ۝١٣٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Except an old woman who was amongst those who lingered behind
illā ʿajūzan fī l-ghābirīn
37:136 ›
ثُمَّ دَمَّرۡنَا ٱلۡءَاخَرِینَ ۝١٣٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Then We destroyed the others
thumma dammarnā l-ākharīn
37:137 ›
وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَیۡهِم مُّصۡبِحِینَ ۝١٣٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And most surely you pass by their (ruins) in the morning
wa-innakum latamurrūna ʿalayhim muṣ'biḥīn
5 Jonah and the Prophet's Triumph
37:138 ›
وَبِٱلَّیۡلِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٣٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And at night; do you not then understand
wabi-al-layli afalā taʿqilūn
37:139 ›
وَإِنَّ یُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٣٩
Hamid S. Aziz
And Jonah was most surely of those sent
wa-inna yūnusa lamina l-mur'salīn
37:140 ›
إِذۡ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ۝١٤٠
Hamid S. Aziz
When he ran away to a ship completely laden
idh abaqa ilā l-ful'ki l-mashḥūn
37:141 ›
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُدۡحَضِینَ ۝١٤١
Hamid S. Aziz
Then he drew lots, but was of those rejected
fasāhama fakāna mina l-mud'ḥaḍīn
37:142 ›
فَٱلۡتَقَمَهُ ٱلۡحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِیمࣱ ۝١٤٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy
fal-taqamahu l-ḥūtu wahuwa mulīmu
37:143 ›
فَلَوۡلَاۤ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحِینَ ۝١٤٣
Hamid S. Aziz
But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us)
falawlā annahu kāna mina l-musabiḥīn
37:144 ›
لَلَبِثَ فِی بَطۡنِهِۦۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٤٤
Hamid S. Aziz
He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised
lalabitha fī baṭnihi ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn
37:145 ›
۞ فَنَبَذۡنَـٰهُ بِٱلۡعَرَاۤءِ وَهُوَ سَقِیمࣱ ۝١٤٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Then We cast him on to the desert shore while he was sick
fanabadhnāhu bil-ʿarāi wahuwa saqīmu
37:146 ›
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ شَجَرَةࣰ مِّن یَقۡطِینࣲ ۝١٤٦
Hamid S. Aziz
And We caused a gourd plant to grow above him
wa-anbatnā ʿalayhi shajaratan min yaqṭīni
37:147 ›
وَأَرۡسَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلۡفٍ أَوۡ یَزِیدُونَ ۝١٤٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And We sent him to a hundred thousand folk or more
wa-arsalnāhu ilā mi-ati alfin aw yazīdūn
37:148 ›
فَءَامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝١٤٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And they believed; therefore, We gave them provision for a time
faāmanū famattaʿnāhum ilā ḥīni
37:149 ›
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ ۝١٤٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Now ask them (O Muhammad) has your Lord daughters while they have sons
fa-is'taftihim alirabbika l-banātu walahumu l-banūn
37:150 ›
أَمۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ إِنَـٰثࣰا وَهُمۡ شَـٰهِدُونَ ۝١٥٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses
am khalaqnā l-malāikata ināthan wahum shāhidūn
37:151 ›
أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُم مِّنۡ إِفۡكِهِمۡ لَیَقُولُونَ ۝١٥١
Hamid S. Aziz
Verily, it is of their own lies that they say
alā innahum min if'kihim layaqūlūn
37:152 ›
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝١٥٢
Hamid S. Aziz
"Allah has begotten"; and most surely they are liars
walada l-lahu wa-innahum lakādhibūn
37:153 ›
أَصۡطَفَى ٱلۡبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلۡبَنِینَ ۝١٥٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons
aṣṭafā l-banāti ʿalā l-banīn
37:154 ›
مَا لَكُمۡ كَیۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ ۝١٥٤
Hamid S. Aziz
What ails you, how is it that you judge
mā lakum kayfa taḥkumūn
37:155 ›
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝١٥٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Will you not then reflect
afalā tadhakkarūn
37:156 ›
أَمۡ لَكُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٥٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Or have you a clear authority
am lakum sul'ṭānun mubīnu
37:157 ›
فَأۡتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٥٧
Hamid S. Aziz
Then bring your book (writ, record), if you are truthful
fatū bikitābikum in kuntum ṣādiqīn
37:158 ›
وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَیۡنَهُۥ وَبَیۡنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ نَسَبࣰاۚ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمَتِ ٱلۡجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ ۝١٥٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And they assert a relationship between Him and the Jinn; and certainly the Jinn do know that they shall surely be brought forth
wajaʿalū baynahu wabayna l-jinati nasaban walaqad ʿalimati l-jinatu innahum lamuḥ'ḍarūn
37:159 ›
سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝١٥٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Glory be to Allah from all that they attribute (unto Him)
sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yaṣifūn
37:160 ›
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝١٦٠
Hamid S. Aziz
But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones
illā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn
37:161 ›
فَإِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝١٦١
Hamid S. Aziz
So surely you and what you worship
fa-innakum wamā taʿbudūn
37:162 ›
مَاۤ أَنتُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ بِفَـٰتِنِینَ ۝١٦٢
Hamid S. Aziz
Cannot lead into temptation anyone against Him
mā antum ʿalayhi bifātinīn
37:163 ›
إِلَّا مَنۡ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝١٦٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Save him who will go to hell
illā man huwa ṣāli l-jaḥīm
37:164 ›
وَمَا مِنَّاۤ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝١٦٤
Hamid S. Aziz
(The angels or those who are ranged in ranks say,) "And there is none of us but has an assigned place
wamā minnā illā lahu maqāmun maʿlūmu
37:165 ›
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلصَّاۤفُّونَ ۝١٦٥
Hamid S. Aziz
"Verily, we, even we, are they who draw out in ranks
wa-innā lanaḥnu l-ṣāfūn
37:166 ›
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحُونَ ۝١٦٦

"Verily, we, even we, are they who declare the glory (of Allah)."
wa-innā lanaḥnu l-musabiḥūn
37:167 ›
وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَیَقُولُونَ ۝١٦٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And there are those who used to say
wa-in kānū layaqūlūn
37:168 ›
لَوۡ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكۡرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٦٨
Hamid S. Aziz
"Had we a reminder from those of yore
law anna ʿindanā dhik'ran mina l-awalīn
37:169 ›
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝١٦٩
Hamid S. Aziz
"We would certainly have been the single-minded servants of Allah
lakunnā ʿibāda l-lahi l-mukh'laṣīn
37:170 ›
فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦۖ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٧٠
Hamid S. Aziz
But (now that it is come) they disbelieve in it; but they will come to know
fakafarū bihi fasawfa yaʿlamūn
37:171 ›
وَلَقَدۡ سَبَقَتۡ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٧١
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly Our word has already gone forth before this unto Our servants sen
walaqad sabaqat kalimatunā liʿibādinā l-mur'salīn
37:172 ›
إِنَّهُمۡ لَهُمُ ٱلۡمَنصُورُونَ ۝١٧٢
Hamid S. Aziz
That most surely they shall be helpe
innahum lahumu l-manṣūrūn
37:173 ›
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبُونَ ۝١٧٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones
wa-inna jundanā lahumu l-ghālibūn
37:174 ›
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝١٧٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Therefore, turn away from them till a time
fatawalla ʿanhum ḥattā ḥīni
37:175 ›
وَأَبۡصِرۡهُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٧٥
Hamid S. Aziz
And watch, for they will soon come to see
wa-abṣir'hum fasawfa yub'ṣirūn
37:176 ›
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا یَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ ۝١٧٦
Hamid S. Aziz
What! Would they then hasten Our chastisement
afabiʿadhābinā yastaʿjilūn
37:177 ›
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمۡ فَسَاۤءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِینَ ۝١٧٧
Hamid S. Aziz
But when it descends on them, evil will then be the morning for those who have been warned
fa-idhā nazala bisāḥatihim fasāa ṣabāḥu l-mundharīn
37:178 ›
وَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ ۝١٧٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And turn away from them for a tim
watawalla ʿanhum ḥattā ḥīni
37:179 ›
وَأَبۡصِرۡ فَسَوۡفَ یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٧٩
Hamid S. Aziz
And watch, for they will soon come to see
wa-abṣir fasawfa yub'ṣirūn
37:180 ›
سُبۡحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلۡعِزَّةِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝١٨٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Majesty, above all that which they attribute (unto Him)
sub'ḥāna rabbika rabbi l-ʿizati ʿammā yaṣifūn
37:181 ›
وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝١٨١
Hamid S. Aziz
And peace be unto those who are sent
wasalāmun ʿalā l-mur'salīn
37:182 ›
وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٨٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds
wal-ḥamdu lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīn
