وَقَطَّعْنَٰهُمُ waqaṭṭaʿnāhumu
And We divided them V
ٱثْنَتَىْ ith'natay
(into) two Noun
عَشْرَةَ ʿashrata
(and) ten [i.e. twelve] Noun
أَسْبَاطًا asbāṭan
tribes Noun
أُمَمًا umaman
(as) communities Noun
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ wa-awḥaynā
And We inspired V
إِلَىٰ ilā
to Prep
مُوسَىٰٓ mūsā
Musa Noun
إِذِ idhi
when Noun
ٱسْتَسْقَىٰهُ is'tasqāhu
asked him for water V
قَوْمُهُۥٓ qawmuhu
his people Noun
أَنِ ani
[that] Prep
ٱضْرِب iḍ'rib
Strike V
بِّعَصَاكَ biʿaṣāka
with your staff Noun
ٱلْحَجَرَ l-ḥajara
the stone Noun
فَٱنۢبَجَسَتْ fa-inbajasat
Then gushed forth V
مِنْهُ min'hu
from it Prep
ٱثْنَتَا ith'natā
two Noun
عَشْرَةَ ʿashrata
(and) ten [i.e. twelve] Noun
عَيْنًا ʿaynan
springs Noun
قَدْ qad
Certainly Prep
عَلِمَ ʿalima
knew V
كُلُّ kullu
each Noun
أُنَاسٍ unāsin
people Noun
مَّشْرَبَهُمْ mashrabahum
their drinking place Noun
وَظَلَّلْنَا waẓallalnā
And We shaded V
عَلَيْهِمُ ʿalayhimu
[on] them Prep
ٱلْغَمَٰمَ l-ghamāma
(with) the clouds Noun
وَأَنزَلْنَا wa-anzalnā
and We sent down V
عَلَيْهِمُ ʿalayhimu
upon them Prep
ٱلْمَنَّ l-mana
the manna Noun
وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ wal-salwā
and the quails Noun
كُلُوا۟ kulū
Eat V
مِن min
from Prep
طَيِّبَٰتِ ṭayyibāti
(the) good things Noun
مَا mā
which Noun
رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ razaqnākum
We have provided you V
وَمَا wamā
And not Prep
ظَلَمُونَا ẓalamūnā
they wronged Us V
وَلَٰكِن walākin
but Prep
كَانُوٓا۟ kānū
they were V
أَنفُسَهُمْ anfusahum
(to) themselves Noun
يَظْلِمُونَ yaẓlimūna
doing wrong V

We divided them into twelve tribes [as distinct] communities, and, when his people asked him for water, inspired Moses to strike the rock with his staff [so that] twelve springs gushed out. Each tribe knew its own drinking place; We gave them the shade of clouds and sent down to them manna and quails [saying], ‘Eat the good things We have provided for you.’ They did not wrong Us; it was themselves they wronged

وَقَطَّعۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱثۡنَتَیۡ عَشۡرَةَ أَسۡبَاطًا أُمَمࣰاۚ وَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰۤ إِذِ ٱسۡتَسۡقَىٰهُ قَوۡمُهُۥۤ أَنِ ٱضۡرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلۡحَجَرَۖ فَٱنۢبَجَسَتۡ مِنۡهُ ٱثۡنَتَا عَشۡرَةَ عَیۡنࣰاۖ قَدۡ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسࣲ مَّشۡرَبَهُمۡۚ وَظَلَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡغَمَـٰمَ وَأَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلۡوَىٰۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن طَیِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقۡنَـٰكُمۡۚ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١٦٠

waqaṭṭaʿnāhumu ith'natay ʿashrata asbāṭan umaman wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā idhi is'tasqāhu qawmuhu ani iḍ'rib biʿaṣāka l-ḥajara fa-inbajasat min'hu ith'natā ʿashrata ʿaynan qad ʿalima kullu unāsin mashrabahum waẓallalnā ʿalayhimu l-ghamāma wa-anzalnā ʿalayhimu l-mana wal-salwā kulū min ṭayyibāti mā razaqnākum wamā ẓalamūnā walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn
