1 The Qur'an is guarded

۞ الۤرۚ تِلۡكَ ءَایَـٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ وَقُرۡءَانࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١

Alif Lām Ra. Those are the signs of the Scripture and an evident Recital.

alif-lam-ra til'ka āyātu l-kitābi waqur'ānin mubīni

رُّبَمَا یَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡ كَانُوا۟ مُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٢

Perhaps those who have denied will wish they had been Muslims.

rubamā yawaddu alladhīna kafarū law kānū mus'limīn

ذَرۡهُمۡ یَأۡكُلُوا۟ وَیَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَیُلۡهِهِمُ ٱلۡأَمَلُۖ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣

Letsg them eat and enjoy and be distracted by (false) hope, for they will come to know.

dharhum yakulū wayatamattaʿū wayul'hihimu l-amalu fasawfa yaʿlamūn

وَمَاۤ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَرۡیَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝٤

For in no way did We annihilate any town except that it had a known written decree.

wamā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā walahā kitābun maʿlūmu

مَّا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ ۝٥

No community can advance its time, nor can they delay it.

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūn

وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِی نُزِّلَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلذِّكۡرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجۡنُونࣱ ۝٦

And they said, “O you upon whom the Reminder has been bestowed from on high, very truly you are insane.

waqālū yāayyuhā alladhī nuzzila ʿalayhi l-dhik'ru innaka lamajnūnu

لَّوۡ مَا تَأۡتِینَا بِٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝٧

If only you would bring us the angels, if you are one of the truthful!”

law mā tatīnā bil-malāikati in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn

مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوۤا۟ إِذࣰا مُّنظَرِینَ ۝٨

We bestow not the angels from on high except with the truth, and in no way would they then be respited.

mā nunazzilu l-malāikata illā bil-ḥaqi wamā kānū idhan munẓarīn

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ ۝٩

Indeed, We—We alone—have bestowed the Reminder from on high, and We will most surely preserve it.

innā naḥnu nazzalnā l-dhik'ra wa-innā lahu laḥāfiẓūn

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ فِی شِیَعِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٠

And most surely We sent (messengers) before yousg to the sects of the ancients,

walaqad arsalnā min qablika fī shiyaʿi l-awalīn

وَمَا یَأۡتِیهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝١١

but no messenger comes to them but they used to ridicule him.

wamā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūn

كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَسۡلُكُهُۥ فِی قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٢

Thus We insert it into the hearts of the criminals—

kadhālika naslukuhu fī qulūbi l-muj'rimīn

لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَقَدۡ خَلَتۡ سُنَّةُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٣

they do not believe in it, though the rule of (God regarding) the ancients has surely passed before.

lā yu'minūna bihi waqad khalat sunnatu l-awalīn

وَلَوۡ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَابࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِیهِ یَعۡرُجُونَ ۝١٤

And if We were to open for them a gateway into the sky so that they were to continue ascending through it,

walaw fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban mina l-samāi faẓallū fīhi yaʿrujūn

لَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتۡ أَبۡصَـٰرُنَا بَلۡ نَحۡنُ قَوۡمࣱ مَّسۡحُورُونَ ۝١٥

they would surely say, “Indeed, our sight(s) have been stupefied; rather, we are a people bewitched.”

laqālū innamā sukkirat abṣārunā bal naḥnu qawmun masḥūrūn

2 Evil will be destroyed

وَلَقَدۡ جَعَلۡنَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بُرُوجࣰا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِینَ ۝١٦

And most surely, We have made constellations in the sky and adorned it to the beholders;

walaqad jaʿalnā fī l-samāi burūjan wazayyannāhā lilnnāẓirīn

وَحَفِظۡنَـٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَیۡطَـٰنࣲ رَّجِیمٍ ۝١٧

and We have preserved it from every outcast devil,

waḥafiẓ'nāhā min kulli shayṭānin rajīmi

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمۡعَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٨

except the one who eavesdrops and is followed by an evident meteor.

illā mani is'taraqa l-samʿa fa-atbaʿahu shihābun mubīnu

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مَّوۡزُونࣲ ۝١٩

And the land—We spread it and cast firm mountains in it, and We germinated therein of everything in proper measure.

wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli shayin mawzūni

وَجَعَلۡنَا لَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَعَـٰیِشَ وَمَن لَّسۡتُمۡ لَهُۥ بِرَ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٢٠

And We made livelihoods for youpl in it, as well as for those for whom you are not the providers.

wajaʿalnā lakum fīhā maʿāyisha waman lastum lahu birāziqīn

وَإِن مِّن شَیۡءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَاۤىِٕنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥۤ إِلَّا بِقَدَرࣲ مَّعۡلُومࣲ ۝٢١

For there is not a thing but with Us are its treasuries, yet in no way do We bestow it from on high except in a known measure.

wa-in min shayin illā ʿindanā khazāinuhu wamā nunazziluhu illā biqadarin maʿlūmi

وَأَرۡسَلۡنَا ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ لَوَ ٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَسۡقَیۡنَـٰكُمُوهُ وَمَاۤ أَنتُمۡ لَهُۥ بِخَـٰزِنِینَ ۝٢٢

And We sent the winds, fertilizing, then sent down water from the sky and gave it to youpl to drink, and in no way are you its keepers.

wa-arsalnā l-riyāḥa lawāqiḥa fa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan fa-asqaynākumūhu wamā antum lahu bikhāzinīn

وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ نُحۡیِۦ وَنُمِیتُ وَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡوَ ٰرِثُونَ ۝٢٣

And indeed, We—surely, We—give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritors.

wa-innā lanaḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wanaḥnu l-wārithūn

وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡتَقۡدِمِینَ مِنكُمۡ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡتَءۡخِرِینَ ۝٢٤

And most surely We have known those of you who passed away, and most surely We have known those who come afterwards;

walaqad ʿalim'nā l-mus'taqdimīna minkum walaqad ʿalim'nā l-mus'takhirīn

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ یَحۡشُرُهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِیمٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٢٥

and indeed, it is yoursg Lord Who herds them together; indeed, He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.

wa-inna rabbaka huwa yaḥshuruhum innahu ḥakīmun ʿalīmu

3 Devil's Opposition to Righteous

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٢٦

And most surely We created man from potter’s clay, of fermented mud,

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni

وَٱلۡجَاۤنَّ خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ مِن قَبۡلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ ۝٢٧

while We created the unseen being before from the fire of the searing wind.

wal-jāna khalaqnāhu min qablu min nāri l-samūm

وَإِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ إِنِّی خَـٰلِقُۢ بَشَرࣰا مِّن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٢٨

And recall when yoursg Lord said to the angels, “I am creating a human being from potter’s clay, of fermented mud.

wa-idh qāla rabbuka lil'malāikati innī khāliqun basharan min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni

فَإِذَا سَوَّیۡتُهُۥ وَنَفَخۡتُ فِیهِ مِن رُّوحِی فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِینَ ۝٢٩

So when I have formed him and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down to him, prostrating.”

fa-idhā sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu fīhi min rūḥī faqaʿū lahu sājidīn

فَسَجَدَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ كُلُّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعُونَ ۝٣٠

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together—

fasajada l-malāikatu kulluhum ajmaʿūn

إِلَّاۤ إِبۡلِیسَ أَبَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٣١

but not Iblis. He refused to be with those who prostrated themselves.

illā ib'līsa abā an yakūna maʿa l-sājidīn

قَالَ یَـٰۤإِبۡلِیسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٣٢

He said, “O Iblis, what keeps you from being with those who prostrate themselves?”

qāla yāib'līsu mā laka allā takūna maʿa l-sājidīn

قَالَ لَمۡ أَكُن لِّأَسۡجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقۡتَهُۥ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٣٣

He said, “Never would I prostrate myself to a human being whom You created from potter’s clay, of fermented mud.”

qāla lam akun li-asjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni

قَالَ فَٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِیمࣱ ۝٣٤

He said, “Then get out of it, for indeed you are an outcast,

qāla fa-ukh'ruj min'hā fa-innaka rajīmu

وَإِنَّ عَلَیۡكَ ٱللَّعۡنَةَ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٣٥

and indeed the curse is upon you until the Day of Recompense.”

wa-inna ʿalayka l-laʿnata ilā yawmi l-dīn

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرۡنِیۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝٣٦

He said, “My Lord, then reprieve me until the day they are resurrected.”

qāla rabbi fa-anẓir'nī ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنظَرِینَ ۝٣٧

He said, “Then, you are indeed of the ones reprieved

qāla fa-innaka mina l-munẓarīn

إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡوَقۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡلُومِ ۝٣٨

until the Day of the Time Appointed.”

ilā yawmi l-waqti l-maʿlūm

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَاۤ أَغۡوَیۡتَنِی لَأُزَیِّنَنَّ لَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَأُغۡوِیَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٣٩

He said, “My Lord, since You have deluded me, I will most surely adorn for them (evil deeds) on earth, and I will most surely delude them all,

qāla rabbi bimā aghwaytanī la-uzayyinanna lahum fī l-arḍi wala-ugh'wiyannahum ajmaʿīn

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنۡهُمُ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝٤٠

except for Your sincere chosen servants among them.”

illā ʿibādaka min'humu l-mukh'laṣīn

قَالَ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطٌ عَلَیَّ مُسۡتَقِیمٌ ۝٤١

He said, “This is a straight path which is binding on Me:

qāla hādhā ṣirāṭun ʿalayya mus'taqīmu

إِنَّ عِبَادِی لَیۡسَ لَكَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡغَاوِینَ ۝٤٢

over My servants yousg have no authority indeed, except for those who follow you of the deluded ones.

inna ʿibādī laysa laka ʿalayhim sul'ṭānun illā mani ittabaʿaka mina l-ghāwīn

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوۡعِدُهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٤٣

And indeed, Hell is the meeting place for them all.

wa-inna jahannama lamawʿiduhum ajmaʿīn

لَهَا سَبۡعَةُ أَبۡوَ ٰبࣲ لِّكُلِّ بَابࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ جُزۡءࣱ مَّقۡسُومٌ ۝٤٤

It has seven gates; for each gate is an assigned class.”

lahā sabʿatu abwābin likulli bābin min'hum juz'on maqsūmu

4 Mercy for the Righteous — Abraham

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَعُیُونٍ ۝٤٥

Indeed, the mindful (of God) are amid Gardens and springs.

inna l-mutaqīna fī jannātin waʿuyūni

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ءَامِنِینَ ۝٤٦

“Enter it in peace, feeling safe.”

ud'khulūhā bisalāmin āminīn

وَنَزَعۡنَا مَا فِی صُدُورِهِم مِّنۡ غِلٍّ إِخۡوَ ٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِینَ ۝٤٧

And We removed whatever malice was within their chests—as brethren, on couches facing each other.

wanazaʿnā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghillin ikh'wānan ʿalā sururin mutaqābilīn

لَا یَمَسُّهُمۡ فِیهَا نَصَبࣱ وَمَا هُم مِّنۡهَا بِمُخۡرَجِینَ ۝٤٨

No fatigue touches them therein, nor from it will they ever be brought out.

lā yamassuhum fīhā naṣabun wamā hum min'hā bimukh'rajīn

۞ نَبِّئۡ عِبَادِیۤ أَنِّیۤ أَنَا ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٤٩

Informsg My servants that I—only I—am the Oft-Forgiving, the Bestower of mercy,

nabbi ʿibādī annī anā l-ghafūru l-raḥīm

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِی هُوَ ٱلۡعَذَابُ ٱلۡأَلِیمُ ۝٥٠

and that My punishment is the painful punishment.

wa-anna ʿadhābī huwa l-ʿadhābu l-alīm

وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ عَن ضَیۡفِ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ۝٥١

And inform them of the guests of Abraham,

wanabbi'hum ʿan ḍayfi ib'rāhīm

إِذۡ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمࣰا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمۡ وَجِلُونَ ۝٥٢

when they entered upon him and said, “Peace.” He said, “We are truly scared of you.”

idh dakhalū ʿalayhi faqālū salāman qāla innā minkum wajilūn

قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوۡجَلۡ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِیمࣲ ۝٥٣

They said, “Do not be scared; we bring yousg glad tidings of a knowledgeable boy.”

qālū lā tawjal innā nubashiruka bighulāmin ʿalīmi

قَالَ أَبَشَّرۡتُمُونِی عَلَىٰۤ أَن مَّسَّنِیَ ٱلۡكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ ۝٥٤

He said, “Have you brought me glad tidings when old age has touched me? So what glad tidings could you give?”

qāla abashartumūnī ʿalā an massaniya l-kibaru fabima tubashirūn

قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرۡنَـٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡقَـٰنِطِینَ ۝٥٥

They said, “We brought you true glad tidings, so be not of the despairing ones.”

qālū basharnāka bil-ḥaqi falā takun mina l-qāniṭīn

قَالَ وَمَن یَقۡنَطُ مِن رَّحۡمَةِ رَبِّهِۦۤ إِلَّا ٱلضَّاۤلُّونَ ۝٥٦

He said, “And who despairs of his Lord’s mercy except for those astray?”

qāla waman yaqnaṭu min raḥmati rabbihi illā l-ḍālūn

قَالَ فَمَا خَطۡبُكُمۡ أَیُّهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝٥٧

He said, “So what is your business, O emissaries?”

qāla famā khaṭbukum ayyuhā l-mur'salūn

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ أُرۡسِلۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمࣲ مُّجۡرِمِینَ ۝٥٨

They said, “We have been sent to a people of criminals,

qālū innā ur'sil'nā ilā qawmin muj'rimīn

إِلَّاۤ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٥٩

except for Lot's folk; we will most surely deliver them all,

illā āla lūṭin innā lamunajjūhum ajmaʿīn

إِلَّا ٱمۡرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرۡنَاۤ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِینَ ۝٦٠

except for his wife.” We have determined that she will most surely be of those who linger behind.

illā im'ra-atahu qaddarnā innahā lamina l-ghābirīn

5 Lot and Shu'aib

فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝٦١

So when the emissaries came to Lot's folk,

falammā jāa āla lūṭin l-mur'salūn

قَالَ إِنَّكُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّنكَرُونَ ۝٦٢

he said, “You are an unknown people.”

qāla innakum qawmun munkarūn

قَالُوا۟ بَلۡ جِئۡنَـٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِیهِ یَمۡتَرُونَ ۝٦٣

They said, “Rather, we have come to yousg with that about which they were skeptical,

qālū bal ji'nāka bimā kānū fīhi yamtarūn

وَأَتَیۡنَـٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ ۝٦٤

and we have brought you the truth, and very truly we are truthful.

wa-ataynāka bil-ḥaqi wa-innā laṣādiqūn

فَأَسۡرِ بِأَهۡلِكَ بِقِطۡعࣲ مِّنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱتَّبِعۡ أَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ وَلَا یَلۡتَفِتۡ مِنكُمۡ أَحَدࣱ وَٱمۡضُوا۟ حَیۡثُ تُؤۡمَرُونَ ۝٦٥

So journey with your family at the latter part of the night and follow at their rear, and let none of you turn around, and proceedpl wherever youpl are commanded.”

fa-asri bi-ahlika biqiṭ'ʿin mina al-layli wa-ittabiʿ adbārahum walā yaltafit minkum aḥadun wa-im'ḍū ḥaythu tu'marūn

وَقَضَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ مَقۡطُوعࣱ مُّصۡبِحِینَ ۝٦٦

And We decreed to him that matter: that the last trace of these would be uprooted by the morning.

waqaḍaynā ilayhi dhālika l-amra anna dābira hāulāi maqṭūʿun muṣ'biḥīn

وَجَاۤءَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ یَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ ۝٦٧

And the people of the town came anticipating glad tidings.

wajāa ahlu l-madīnati yastabshirūn

قَالَ إِنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ ضَیۡفِی فَلَا تَفۡضَحُونِ ۝٦٨

He said, “Indeed, these are my guests, so do not embarrass me,

qāla inna hāulāi ḍayfī falā tafḍaḥūn

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخۡزُونِ ۝٦٩

and be mindful of Allah and do not disgrace me.”

wa-ittaqū l-laha walā tukh'zūn

قَالُوۤا۟ أَوَ لَمۡ نَنۡهَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٧٠

They said, “Did we not forbid yousg from (receiving) any people?”

qālū awalam nanhaka ʿani l-ʿālamīn

قَالَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ بَنَاتِیۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَـٰعِلِینَ ۝٧١

He said, “These are my daughters, if you must.”

qāla hāulāi banātī in kuntum fāʿilīn

لَعَمۡرُكَ إِنَّهُمۡ لَفِی سَكۡرَتِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝٧٢

By yoursg life, in their drunkenness they certainly do blunder!

laʿamruka innahum lafī sakratihim yaʿmahūn

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ مُشۡرِقِینَ ۝٧٣

So the Shout took them away at sunrise.

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu mush'riqīn

فَجَعَلۡنَا عَـٰلِیَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةࣰ مِّن سِجِّیلٍ ۝٧٤

And We turned it upside down and rained down upon them stones of hard clay.

fajaʿalnā ʿāliyahā sāfilahā wa-amṭarnā ʿalayhim ḥijāratan min sijjīli

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّلۡمُتَوَسِّمِینَ ۝٧٥

Indeed, in that are certainly signs for those who contemplate.

inna fī dhālika laāyātin lil'mutawassimīn

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِیلࣲ مُّقِیمٍ ۝٧٦

And indeed, it is certainly on an existing way.

wa-innahā labisabīlin muqīmi

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٧٧

Indeed, in that is certainly a sign for the believers.

inna fī dhālika laāyatan lil'mu'minīn

وَإِن كَانَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ لَظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٧٨

And indeed, the fellows of the Thicket were certainly unjust,

wa-in kāna aṣḥābu l-aykati laẓālimīn

فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٧٩

so We took retribution on them, and indeed, both are certainly in an evident archive.

fa-intaqamnā min'hum wa-innahumā labi-imāmin mubīni

6 Warning to Dwellers of Rock

وَلَقَدۡ كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡحِجۡرِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٨٠

And most surely, the fellows of Al-Hijr disbelieved the emissaries.

walaqad kadhaba aṣḥābu l-ḥij'ri l-mur'salīn

وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٨١

So We brought them Our signs, but they used to disregard them.

waātaynāhum āyātinā fakānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn

وَكَانُوا۟ یَنۡحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُیُوتًا ءَامِنِینَ ۝٨٢

And of the mountains they used to carve homes, feeling safe.

wakānū yanḥitūna mina l-jibāli buyūtan āminīn

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ مُصۡبِحِینَ ۝٨٣

But the Shout took them away by the morning,

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu muṣ'biḥīn

فَمَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٨٤

so all what they used to earn was of no avail to them.

famā aghnā ʿanhum mā kānū yaksibūn

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَاۤ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِیَةࣱۖ فَٱصۡفَحِ ٱلصَّفۡحَ ٱلۡجَمِیلَ ۝٨٥

And We did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them except with the truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming, so pardonsg (with) gracious pardoning.

wamā khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā illā bil-ḥaqi wa-inna l-sāʿata laātiyatun fa-iṣ'faḥi l-ṣafḥa l-jamīl

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلۡخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٨٦

Indeed, yoursg Lord is the One who is the All-Creating, the All-Knowing.

inna rabbaka huwa l-khalāqu l-ʿalīm

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰكَ سَبۡعࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡمَثَانِی وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡعَظِیمَ ۝٨٧

And most surely, We have brought yousg seven of the oft-repeated and the great Recital.

walaqad ātaynāka sabʿan mina l-mathānī wal-qur'āna l-ʿaẓīm

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَیۡنَیۡكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعۡنَا بِهِۦۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا تَحۡزَنۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَٱخۡفِضۡ جَنَاحَكَ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨٨

Dosg not look longingly at the good things We have given some classes of them to enjoy, and do not grieve over them, and lower your wing towards the believers.

lā tamuddanna ʿaynayka ilā mā mattaʿnā bihi azwājan min'hum walā taḥzan ʿalayhim wa-ikh'fiḍ janāḥaka lil'mu'minīn

وَقُلۡ إِنِّیۤ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِیرُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝٨٩

And say, “Indeed, it is I—I who am the evident warner.”

waqul innī anā l-nadhīru l-mubīn

كَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡمُقۡتَسِمِینَ ۝٩٠

So too did We send down to those who divide among themselves—

kamā anzalnā ʿalā l-muq'tasimīn

ٱلَّذِینَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ عِضِینَ ۝٩١

those who have made the Recital into fragments.

alladhīna jaʿalū l-qur'āna ʿiḍīn

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسۡءَلَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٩٢

So by yoursg Lord, We will surely ask them all

fawarabbika lanasalannahum ajmaʿīn

عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٣

about what they used to do.

fa-iṣ'daʿ bimā tu'maru wa-aʿriḍ ʿani l-mush'rikīn

فَٱصۡدَعۡ بِمَا تُؤۡمَرُ وَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٩٤

So proclaimsg openly what you are commanded and disregard the polytheists.

FaisdaAA bima tu/maru waaAArid AAani almushrikeena

إِنَّا كَفَیۡنَـٰكَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَهۡزِءِینَ ۝٩٥

Indeed, We have sufficed yousg against the mockers:

innā kafaynāka l-mus'tahziīn

ٱلَّذِینَ یَجۡعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٩٦

those who set up another god with Allah. So they will come to know.

alladhīna yajʿalūna maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fasawfa yaʿlamūn

وَلَقَدۡ نَعۡلَمُ أَنَّكَ یَضِیقُ صَدۡرُكَ بِمَا یَقُولُونَ ۝٩٧

And most surely We are aware that yoursg chest tightens with what they say.

walaqad naʿlamu annaka yaḍīqu ṣadruka bimā yaqūlūn

فَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٩٨

So exalt your Lord with praise and be of those who prostrate,

fasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika wakun mina l-sājidīn

وَٱعۡبُدۡ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ یَأۡتِیَكَ ٱلۡیَقِینُ ۝٩٩

and worship your Lord until Certitude comes to you.

wa-uʿ'bud rabbaka ḥattā yatiyaka l-yaqīn
