1 The Qur'an is guarded

۞ الۤرۚ تِلۡكَ ءَایَـٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ وَقُرۡءَانࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١

Alif.Lam.Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and a clear Quran.

alif-lam-ra til'ka āyātu l-kitābi waqur'ānin mubīni

رُّبَمَا یَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوۡ كَانُوا۟ مُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٢

Many a time will those who disbelieve wish if they were those who submit.

rubamā yawaddu alladhīna kafarū law kānū mus'limīn

ذَرۡهُمۡ یَأۡكُلُوا۟ وَیَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَیُلۡهِهِمُ ٱلۡأَمَلُۖ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣

Leave them to eat and enjoy and let hope divert them, then soon they will know.

dharhum yakulū wayatamattaʿū wayul'hihimu l-amalu fasawfa yaʿlamūn

وَمَاۤ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَرۡیَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝٤

And We did not destroy any city but there was a known decree for it.

wamā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā walahā kitābun maʿlūmu

مَّا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ ۝٥

No nation can hasten on its term, nor delay it.

mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wamā yastakhirūn

وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِی نُزِّلَ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلذِّكۡرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجۡنُونࣱ ۝٦

And they say, 'O you upon whom the reminder has been sent down! Indeed, you are surely possessed.

waqālū yāayyuhā alladhī nuzzila ʿalayhi l-dhik'ru innaka lamajnūnu

لَّوۡ مَا تَأۡتِینَا بِٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝٧

Why do you not bring us the angels if you are of the truthful?'

law mā tatīnā bil-malāikati in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn

مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوۤا۟ إِذࣰا مُّنظَرِینَ ۝٨

We do not send down the angels except with the truth, and then they would not be respited.

mā nunazzilu l-malāikata illā bil-ḥaqi wamā kānū idhan munẓarīn

إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ ۝٩

Indeed, We have sent down the reminder, and indeed, We surely are its guardians.

innā naḥnu nazzalnā l-dhik'ra wa-innā lahu laḥāfiẓūn

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ فِی شِیَعِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٠

And surely, certainly We sent before you, among the sects of the former people.

walaqad arsalnā min qablika fī shiyaʿi l-awalīn

وَمَا یَأۡتِیهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝١١

And no messenger comes to them except they used to mock him.

wamā yatīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahziūn

كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَسۡلُكُهُۥ فِی قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٢

Thus We make it enter in the hearts of the sinners.

kadhālika naslukuhu fī qulūbi l-muj'rimīn

لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَقَدۡ خَلَتۡ سُنَّةُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٣

They will not believe in it, and certainly, the course of the former people has passed.

lā yu'minūna bihi waqad khalat sunnatu l-awalīn

وَلَوۡ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَابࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِیهِ یَعۡرُجُونَ ۝١٤

And had We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they continued to ascend in it,

walaw fataḥnā ʿalayhim bāban mina l-samāi faẓallū fīhi yaʿrujūn

لَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتۡ أَبۡصَـٰرُنَا بَلۡ نَحۡنُ قَوۡمࣱ مَّسۡحُورُونَ ۝١٥

They would surely say, 'Our eye-sight is only intoxicated; nay, we are people bewitched.'

laqālū innamā sukkirat abṣārunā bal naḥnu qawmun masḥūrūn

2 Evil will be destroyed

وَلَقَدۡ جَعَلۡنَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بُرُوجࣰا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِینَ ۝١٦

And verily We have placed in the sky towers, and have beautified it for the beholders;

walaqad jaʿalnā fī l-samāi burūjan wazayyannāhā lilnnāẓirīn

وَحَفِظۡنَـٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَیۡطَـٰنࣲ رَّجِیمٍ ۝١٧

And We have guarded it from every stoned devil;

waḥafiẓ'nāhā min kulli shayṭānin rajīmi

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمۡعَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٨

Except him who steals the hearing, and there follows him a clear firebrand.

illā mani is'taraqa l-samʿa fa-atbaʿahu shihābun mubīnu

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مَّوۡزُونࣲ ۝١٩

And the earth We have stretched it out and have thrown therein firm mountains, and have caused to grow therein of everything a measured quantity.

wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli shayin mawzūni

وَجَعَلۡنَا لَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَعَـٰیِشَ وَمَن لَّسۡتُمۡ لَهُۥ بِرَ ٰزِقِینَ ۝٢٠

And We made for you in it livelihood, and for those for whom you are not providers.

wajaʿalnā lakum fīhā maʿāyisha waman lastum lahu birāziqīn

وَإِن مِّن شَیۡءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَاۤىِٕنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥۤ إِلَّا بِقَدَرࣲ مَّعۡلُومࣲ ۝٢١

And there is not a thing but its treasures are with Us, and We do not send it down except in a known quantity.

wa-in min shayin illā ʿindanā khazāinuhu wamā nunazziluhu illā biqadarin maʿlūmi

وَأَرۡسَلۡنَا ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ لَوَ ٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَسۡقَیۡنَـٰكُمُوهُ وَمَاۤ أَنتُمۡ لَهُۥ بِخَـٰزِنِینَ ۝٢٢

And We send the winds fertilizing, and We send down water from the sky, and We give it to you to drink, nor is it you who store it up.

wa-arsalnā l-riyāḥa lawāqiḥa fa-anzalnā mina l-samāi māan fa-asqaynākumūhu wamā antum lahu bikhāzinīn

وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ نُحۡیِۦ وَنُمِیتُ وَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡوَ ٰرِثُونَ ۝٢٣

And indeed, We, surely We give life and We cause death, and We are the Inheritors.

wa-innā lanaḥnu nuḥ'yī wanumītu wanaḥnu l-wārithūn

وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡتَقۡدِمِینَ مِنكُمۡ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡتَءۡخِرِینَ ۝٢٤

And surely, certainly We know the preceding ones among you and surely, certainly We know the laggards.

walaqad ʿalim'nā l-mus'taqdimīna minkum walaqad ʿalim'nā l-mus'takhirīn

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ یَحۡشُرُهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِیمٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٢٥

And indeed, your Lord, He will gather them; indeed, He is wise, knowing.

wa-inna rabbaka huwa yaḥshuruhum innahu ḥakīmun ʿalīmu

3 Devil's Opposition to Righteous

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٢٦

And certainly We created man from clay of shaped black mud;

walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni

وَٱلۡجَاۤنَّ خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ مِن قَبۡلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ ۝٢٧

And the jinn, We created it before from the fire of the hot wind.

wal-jāna khalaqnāhu min qablu min nāri l-samūm

وَإِذۡ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ إِنِّی خَـٰلِقُۢ بَشَرࣰا مِّن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٢٨

And when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I am creating a mortal from clay of shaped black mud;

wa-idh qāla rabbuka lil'malāikati innī khāliqun basharan min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni

فَإِذَا سَوَّیۡتُهُۥ وَنَفَخۡتُ فِیهِ مِن رُّوحِی فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِینَ ۝٢٩

And when I have fashioned him and I have blown into him of My spirit, then fall down in prostration to him.'

fa-idhā sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu fīhi min rūḥī faqaʿū lahu sājidīn

فَسَجَدَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ كُلُّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعُونَ ۝٣٠

So the angels prostrated all of them together,

fasajada l-malāikatu kulluhum ajmaʿūn

إِلَّاۤ إِبۡلِیسَ أَبَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٣١

Except Iblis. He refused to be with those who prostrated.

illā ib'līsa abā an yakūna maʿa l-sājidīn

قَالَ یَـٰۤإِبۡلِیسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٣٢

He said, 'O Iblis! What ails you that you are not with those who prostrated?'

qāla yāib'līsu mā laka allā takūna maʿa l-sājidīn

قَالَ لَمۡ أَكُن لِّأَسۡجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقۡتَهُۥ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ مِّنۡ حَمَإࣲ مَّسۡنُونࣲ ۝٣٣

He said, 'I am not one to prostrate to a mortal whom you have created from clay of shaped black mud.'

qāla lam akun li-asjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūni

قَالَ فَٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِیمࣱ ۝٣٤

He said, 'Then go out of it, for indeed, you are stoned.

qāla fa-ukh'ruj min'hā fa-innaka rajīmu

وَإِنَّ عَلَیۡكَ ٱللَّعۡنَةَ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٣٥

And indeed, the curse is upon you until the Day of Judgment.'

wa-inna ʿalayka l-laʿnata ilā yawmi l-dīn

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرۡنِیۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝٣٦

He said, 'My Lord! Then respite me until the day they shall be raised.'

qāla rabbi fa-anẓir'nī ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنظَرِینَ ۝٣٧

He said, 'Then indeed, you are of the respited

qāla fa-innaka mina l-munẓarīn

إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡوَقۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡلُومِ ۝٣٨

Until the day of the known time.'

ilā yawmi l-waqti l-maʿlūm

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَاۤ أَغۡوَیۡتَنِی لَأُزَیِّنَنَّ لَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَأُغۡوِیَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٣٩

He said, 'My Lord! Because you have caused me to err, surely I will definitely beautify for them in the earth, and I will surely, definitely cause them to err all together;

qāla rabbi bimā aghwaytanī la-uzayyinanna lahum fī l-arḍi wala-ugh'wiyannahum ajmaʿīn

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنۡهُمُ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ ۝٤٠

Except Your servants among them, the sincere ones.'

illā ʿibādaka min'humu l-mukh'laṣīn

قَالَ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطٌ عَلَیَّ مُسۡتَقِیمٌ ۝٤١

He said, 'This is a right way against me.

qāla hādhā ṣirāṭun ʿalayya mus'taqīmu

إِنَّ عِبَادِی لَیۡسَ لَكَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡغَاوِینَ ۝٤٢

Indeed, my servants you have no authority over them, except those who follow you among the ones who err.'

inna ʿibādī laysa laka ʿalayhim sul'ṭānun illā mani ittabaʿaka mina l-ghāwīn

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوۡعِدُهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٤٣

And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all together.

wa-inna jahannama lamawʿiduhum ajmaʿīn

لَهَا سَبۡعَةُ أَبۡوَ ٰبࣲ لِّكُلِّ بَابࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ جُزۡءࣱ مَّقۡسُومٌ ۝٤٤

It has seven doors; for every door is a separate portion of them.

lahā sabʿatu abwābin likulli bābin min'hum juz'on maqsūmu

4 Mercy for the Righteous — Abraham

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَعُیُونٍ ۝٤٥

Indeed, those who fear shall be in gardens and springs:

inna l-mutaqīna fī jannātin waʿuyūni

ٱدۡخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ءَامِنِینَ ۝٤٦

'Enter it in peace, safe.'

ud'khulūhā bisalāmin āminīn

وَنَزَعۡنَا مَا فِی صُدُورِهِم مِّنۡ غِلٍّ إِخۡوَ ٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِینَ ۝٤٧

And We removed what is in their breasts of rancour; as brothers on couches face to face.

wanazaʿnā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghillin ikh'wānan ʿalā sururin mutaqābilīn

لَا یَمَسُّهُمۡ فِیهَا نَصَبࣱ وَمَا هُم مِّنۡهَا بِمُخۡرَجِینَ ۝٤٨

No fatigue shall touch them therein, nor shall they be removed from it.

lā yamassuhum fīhā naṣabun wamā hum min'hā bimukh'rajīn

۞ نَبِّئۡ عِبَادِیۤ أَنِّیۤ أَنَا ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٤٩

Inform My servants that I am the forgiving, the Compassionate;

nabbi ʿibādī annī anā l-ghafūru l-raḥīm

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِی هُوَ ٱلۡعَذَابُ ٱلۡأَلِیمُ ۝٥٠

And that My punishment, it is the painful punishment.

wa-anna ʿadhābī huwa l-ʿadhābu l-alīm

وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ عَن ضَیۡفِ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ۝٥١

And inform them about Abraham's guests

wanabbi'hum ʿan ḍayfi ib'rāhīm

إِذۡ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمࣰا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمۡ وَجِلُونَ ۝٥٢

When they entered unto him and said, 'Peace.' He said, 'Indeed, we are afraid of you.'

idh dakhalū ʿalayhi faqālū salāman qāla innā minkum wajilūn

قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوۡجَلۡ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِیمࣲ ۝٥٣

They said, 'Do not be afraid. Indeed, we give you glad tidings of a knowing boy.'

qālū lā tawjal innā nubashiruka bighulāmin ʿalīmi

قَالَ أَبَشَّرۡتُمُونِی عَلَىٰۤ أَن مَّسَّنِیَ ٱلۡكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ ۝٥٤

He said, 'Do you give me glad tidings that old age has touched me? Of what then do you give me glad tidings.'

qāla abashartumūnī ʿalā an massaniya l-kibaru fabima tubashirūn

قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرۡنَـٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡقَـٰنِطِینَ ۝٥٥

They said, 'We give you glad tidings of the truth, so do not be of those who despair.'

qālū basharnāka bil-ḥaqi falā takun mina l-qāniṭīn

قَالَ وَمَن یَقۡنَطُ مِن رَّحۡمَةِ رَبِّهِۦۤ إِلَّا ٱلضَّاۤلُّونَ ۝٥٦

He said, 'And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except those who are astray.'

qāla waman yaqnaṭu min raḥmati rabbihi illā l-ḍālūn

قَالَ فَمَا خَطۡبُكُمۡ أَیُّهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝٥٧

He said, 'Then what is your affair, O messengers?'

qāla famā khaṭbukum ayyuhā l-mur'salūn

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ أُرۡسِلۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمࣲ مُّجۡرِمِینَ ۝٥٨

They said, 'Indeed, We are sent to sinful people;

qālū innā ur'sil'nā ilā qawmin muj'rimīn

إِلَّاۤ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٥٩

Except Lot's family; indeed, them we will surely save all together,

illā āla lūṭin innā lamunajjūhum ajmaʿīn

إِلَّا ٱمۡرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرۡنَاۤ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِینَ ۝٦٠

Except his wife. We have decreed, indeed, she is surely of those who tarry.'

illā im'ra-atahu qaddarnā innahā lamina l-ghābirīn

5 Lot and Shu'aib

فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝٦١

And when the messengers came unto Lot's family,

falammā jāa āla lūṭin l-mur'salūn

قَالَ إِنَّكُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّنكَرُونَ ۝٦٢

He said, 'Indeed, you are people unknown.'

qāla innakum qawmun munkarūn

قَالُوا۟ بَلۡ جِئۡنَـٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِیهِ یَمۡتَرُونَ ۝٦٣

They said, 'Nay, we have come to you with that about which they doubt.

qālū bal ji'nāka bimā kānū fīhi yamtarūn

وَأَتَیۡنَـٰكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ ۝٦٤

And We have come to you with the truth, and indeed, We surely are truthful.

wa-ataynāka bil-ḥaqi wa-innā laṣādiqūn

فَأَسۡرِ بِأَهۡلِكَ بِقِطۡعࣲ مِّنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱتَّبِعۡ أَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ وَلَا یَلۡتَفِتۡ مِنكُمۡ أَحَدࣱ وَٱمۡضُوا۟ حَیۡثُ تُؤۡمَرُونَ ۝٦٥

So travel with your family in a part of the night, and follow their rear; and let not anyone of you turn around to look; but go on to where you are commanded.'

fa-asri bi-ahlika biqiṭ'ʿin mina al-layli wa-ittabiʿ adbārahum walā yaltafit minkum aḥadun wa-im'ḍū ḥaythu tu'marūn

وَقَضَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ مَقۡطُوعࣱ مُّصۡبِحِینَ ۝٦٦

And We decided for him that affair, that the last remnant of these would be cut off in the morning.

waqaḍaynā ilayhi dhālika l-amra anna dābira hāulāi maqṭūʿun muṣ'biḥīn

وَجَاۤءَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ یَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ ۝٦٧

And the people of the city came, glad at the news.

wajāa ahlu l-madīnati yastabshirūn

قَالَ إِنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ ضَیۡفِی فَلَا تَفۡضَحُونِ ۝٦٨

He said, 'Indeed, these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me;

qāla inna hāulāi ḍayfī falā tafḍaḥūn

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخۡزُونِ ۝٦٩

And fear God, and do not put me to shame.'

wa-ittaqū l-laha walā tukh'zūn

قَالُوۤا۟ أَوَ لَمۡ نَنۡهَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٧٠

They said, 'Have we not forbidden you from the worlds?'

qālū awalam nanhaka ʿani l-ʿālamīn

قَالَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ بَنَاتِیۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَـٰعِلِینَ ۝٧١

He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doers.'

qāla hāulāi banātī in kuntum fāʿilīn

لَعَمۡرُكَ إِنَّهُمۡ لَفِی سَكۡرَتِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝٧٢

By your life, indeed, they were surely in their intoxication blindly wandering.

laʿamruka innahum lafī sakratihim yaʿmahūn

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ مُشۡرِقِینَ ۝٧٣

And the noise caught them at sunrise.

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu mush'riqīn

فَجَعَلۡنَا عَـٰلِیَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةࣰ مِّن سِجِّیلٍ ۝٧٤

And We made its higher part its lower part, and We rained down upon them stones of baked clay.

fajaʿalnā ʿāliyahā sāfilahā wa-amṭarnā ʿalayhim ḥijāratan min sijjīli

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّلۡمُتَوَسِّمِینَ ۝٧٥

Indeed, in that verily are signs for those who examine.

inna fī dhālika laāyātin lil'mutawassimīn

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِیلࣲ مُّقِیمٍ ۝٧٦

And indeed, it is surely on a lasting way.

wa-innahā labisabīlin muqīmi

إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٧٧

Indeed, in that surely is a sign for the believers.

inna fī dhālika laāyatan lil'mu'minīn

وَإِن كَانَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَیۡكَةِ لَظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٧٨

And the fellows of the grove were surely wrongdoers;

wa-in kāna aṣḥābu l-aykati laẓālimīn

فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٧٩

So We took vengeance on them, and indeed, they both are surely a clear example.

fa-intaqamnā min'hum wa-innahumā labi-imāmin mubīni

6 Warning to Dwellers of Rock

وَلَقَدۡ كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡحِجۡرِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٨٠

And surely, certainly the fellows of Al Hijr called the messengers liars,

walaqad kadhaba aṣḥābu l-ḥij'ri l-mur'salīn

وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٨١

And We gave them Our signs, but they turned away from them.

waātaynāhum āyātinā fakānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn

وَكَانُوا۟ یَنۡحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُیُوتًا ءَامِنِینَ ۝٨٢

And they used to hew out houses from the mountains, secure.

wakānū yanḥitūna mina l-jibāli buyūtan āminīn

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّیۡحَةُ مُصۡبِحِینَ ۝٨٣

And the noise caught them in the morning;

fa-akhadhathumu l-ṣayḥatu muṣ'biḥīn

فَمَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٨٤

And what they had earned did not avail them.

famā aghnā ʿanhum mā kānū yaksibūn

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَاۤ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِیَةࣱۖ فَٱصۡفَحِ ٱلصَّفۡحَ ٱلۡجَمِیلَ ۝٨٥

We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between both of them except with the truth. And indeed, the Hour is surely coming; so overlook, the beautiful overlooking.

wamā khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā illā bil-ḥaqi wa-inna l-sāʿata laātiyatun fa-iṣ'faḥi l-ṣafḥa l-jamīl

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلۡخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٨٦

Indeed, your Lord, He is the Creator, the Knowing.

inna rabbaka huwa l-khalāqu l-ʿalīm

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰكَ سَبۡعࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡمَثَانِی وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ٱلۡعَظِیمَ ۝٨٧

And certainly, We have given you seven of the repeated, and the great Quran.

walaqad ātaynāka sabʿan mina l-mathānī wal-qur'āna l-ʿaẓīm

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَیۡنَیۡكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعۡنَا بِهِۦۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا تَحۡزَنۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَٱخۡفِضۡ جَنَاحَكَ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨٨

Do not strain your eyes after what We have given pairs of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them; and lower your wing to the believers,

lā tamuddanna ʿaynayka ilā mā mattaʿnā bihi azwājan min'hum walā taḥzan ʿalayhim wa-ikh'fiḍ janāḥaka lil'mu'minīn

وَقُلۡ إِنِّیۤ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِیرُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝٨٩

And say, 'Indeed, I am a clear warner.'

waqul innī anā l-nadhīru l-mubīn

كَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡمُقۡتَسِمِینَ ۝٩٠

As We sent down on the dividers

kamā anzalnā ʿalā l-muq'tasimīn

ٱلَّذِینَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ عِضِینَ ۝٩١

Who have made the Quran into parts.

alladhīna jaʿalū l-qur'āna ʿiḍīn

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسۡءَلَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٩٢

So, by your Lord, We will question them all together

fawarabbika lanasalannahum ajmaʿīn

عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٣

About what they used to do.

fa-iṣ'daʿ bimā tu'maru wa-aʿriḍ ʿani l-mush'rikīn

فَٱصۡدَعۡ بِمَا تُؤۡمَرُ وَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٩٤

Therefore proclaim what you are commanded, and turn away from the idolaters.

FaisdaAA bima tu/maru waaAArid AAani almushrikeena

إِنَّا كَفَیۡنَـٰكَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَهۡزِءِینَ ۝٩٥

Indeed We, We sufficed you against the mockers,

innā kafaynāka l-mus'tahziīn

ٱلَّذِینَ یَجۡعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٩٦

Those who set up another god with God; but soon they will know.

alladhīna yajʿalūna maʿa l-lahi ilāhan ākhara fasawfa yaʿlamūn

وَلَقَدۡ نَعۡلَمُ أَنَّكَ یَضِیقُ صَدۡرُكَ بِمَا یَقُولُونَ ۝٩٧

And surely, certainly We know that your breast is straitened at what they say.

walaqad naʿlamu annaka yaḍīqu ṣadruka bimā yaqūlūn

فَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝٩٨

So glorify with the praise of your Lord, and be of those who prostrate.

fasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika wakun mina l-sājidīn

وَٱعۡبُدۡ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ یَأۡتِیَكَ ٱلۡیَقِینُ ۝٩٩

And serve your Lord until the certainty comes to you.

wa-uʿ'bud rabbaka ḥattā yatiyaka l-yaqīn
