۞ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ۝١

The God of MERC
al-raḥmān
55:2 ›
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ۝٢
John Medows Rodwell
hath taught the Koran
khalaqa l-insān
55:3 ›
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ۝٣
John Medows Rodwell
Hath created man
Khalaqa al-insana
55:4 ›
عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَیَانَ ۝٤
John Medows Rodwell
Hath taught him articulate speech
al-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥus'bāni
55:5 ›
ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانࣲ ۝٥
John Medows Rodwell
The Sun and the Moon have each their times
Alshshamsu waalqamaru bihusbanin
55:6 ›
وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ یَسۡجُدَانِ ۝٦
John Medows Rodwell
And the plants and the trees bend in adoration
wal-najmu wal-shajaru yasjudān
55:7 ›
وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٧

And the Heaven, He hath reared it on high, and hath appointed the balance
wal-samāa rafaʿahā wawaḍaʿa l-mīzān
55:8 ›
أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡمِیزَانِ ۝٨

That in the balance ye should not transgress
allā taṭghaw fī l-mīzān
55:9 ›
وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُوا۟ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٩

Weigh therefore with fairness, and scant not the balance
wa-aqīmū l-wazna bil-qis'ṭi walā tukh'sirū l-mīzān
55:10 ›
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ۝١٠
John Medows Rodwell
And the Earth, He hath prepared it for the living tribes
wal-arḍa waḍaʿahā lil'anām
55:11 ›
فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ ۝١١

Therein are fruits, and the palms with sheathed clusters
fīhā fākihatun wal-nakhlu dhātu l-akmām
55:12 ›
وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّیۡحَانُ ۝١٢
John Medows Rodwell
And the grain with its husk, and the fragrant plants
wal-ḥabu dhū l-ʿaṣfi wal-rayḥān
55:13 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٣

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:14 ›
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ ۝١٤
John Medows Rodwell
He created man of clay like that of the potter
khalaqa l-insāna min ṣalṣālin kal-fakhār
55:15 ›
وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَاۤنَّ مِن مَّارِجࣲ مِّن نَّارࣲ ۝١٥
John Medows Rodwell
And He created the djinn of pure fire
wakhalaqa l-jāna min mārijin min nāri
55:16 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٦
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which then of the bounties, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:17 ›
رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَیۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَیۡنِ ۝١٧

He is the Lord of the East, He is the Lord of the West
rabbu l-mashriqayni warabbu l-maghribayn
55:18 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٨

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:19 ›
مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ یَلۡتَقِیَانِ ۝١٩
John Medows Rodwell
He hath let loose the two seas which meet each other
maraja l-baḥrayni yaltaqiyān
55:20 ›
بَیۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخࣱ لَّا یَبۡغِیَانِ ۝٢٠
John Medows Rodwell
Yet between them is a barrier which they overpass not
baynahumā barzakhun lā yabghiyān
55:21 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢١

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:22 ›
یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٢٢

From each he bringeth up pearls both great and small
yakhruju min'humā l-lu'lu-u wal-marjān
55:23 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٣
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:24 ›
وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَءَاتُ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَـٰمِ ۝٢٤

And His are the ships towering up at sea like mountains
walahu l-jawāri l-munshaātu fī l-baḥri kal-aʿlām
55:25 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٥

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
2 Judgment of the Guilty
55:26 ›
كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَیۡهَا فَانࣲ ۝٢٦
John Medows Rodwell
All on the earth shall pass away
kullu man ʿalayhā fāni
55:27 ›
وَیَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٢٧
John Medows Rodwell
But the face of thy Lord shall abide resplendent with majesty and glory
wayabqā wajhu rabbika dhū l-jalāli wal-ik'rām
55:28 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٨

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:29 ›
یَسۡءَلُهُۥ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ یَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِی شَأۡنࣲ ۝٢٩
John Medows Rodwell
To Him maketh suit all that is in the Heaven and the Earth. Every day doth some new work employ Him
yasaluhu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi kulla yawmin huwa fī shani
55:30 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٠

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:31 ›
سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَیُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ ۝٣١
John Medows Rodwell
We will find leisure to judge you, O ye men and djinn
sanafrughu lakum ayyuha l-thaqalān
55:32 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٢
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:33 ›
یَـٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ ۝٣٣
John Medows Rodwell
O company of djinn and men, if ye can overpass the bounds of the Heavens and the Earth, then overpass them. But by our leave only shall ye overpass them
yāmaʿshara l-jini wal-insi ini is'taṭaʿtum an tanfudhū min aqṭāri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi fa-unfudhū lā tanfudhūna illā bisul'ṭāni
55:34 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٤

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:35 ›
یُرۡسَلُ عَلَیۡكُمَا شُوَاظࣱ مِّن نَّارࣲ وَنُحَاسࣱ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ ۝٣٥
John Medows Rodwell
A bright flash of fire shall be hurled at you both, and molten brass, and ye shall not defend yourselves from it
yur'salu ʿalaykumā shuwāẓun min nārin wanuḥāsun falā tantaṣirān
55:36 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٦

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:37 ›
فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةࣰ كَٱلدِّهَانِ ۝٣٧

When the Heaven shall be cleft asunder, and become rose red, like stained leather
fa-idhā inshaqqati l-samāu fakānat wardatan kal-dihān
55:38 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٨

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:39 ›
فَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لَّا یُسۡءَلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦۤ إِنسࣱ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٣٩
John Medows Rodwell
On that day shall neither man nor djinn be asked of his sin
fayawma-idhin lā yus'alu ʿan dhanbihi insun walā jānnu
55:40 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٠

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:41 ›
یُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِیمَـٰهُمۡ فَیُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَ ٰصِی وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ ۝٤١
John Medows Rodwell
By their tokens shall the sinners be known, and they shall be seized by their forelocks and their feet
yuʿ'rafu l-muj'rimūna bisīmāhum fayu'khadhu bil-nawāṣī wal-aqdām
55:42 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٢
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:43 ›
هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی یُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٤٣
John Medows Rodwell
"This is Hell which sinners treated as a lie."
hādhihi jahannamu allatī yukadhibu bihā l-muj'rimūn
55:44 ›
یَطُوفُونَ بَیۡنَهَا وَبَیۡنَ حَمِیمٍ ءَانࣲ ۝٤٤

To and fro shall they pass between it and the boiling water
yaṭūfūna baynahā wabayna ḥamīmin āni
55:45 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٥

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
3 Reward of the Righteous
55:46 ›
وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ ۝٤٦
John Medows Rodwell
But for those who dread the majesty of their Lord shall be two gardens
waliman khāfa maqāma rabbihi jannatān
55:47 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٧
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:48 ›
ذَوَاتَاۤ أَفۡنَانࣲ ۝٤٨

With o'erbranching trees in each
dhawātā afnāni
55:49 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٩
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:50 ›
فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ تَجۡرِیَانِ ۝٥٠

In each two fountains flowing
fīhimā ʿaynāni tajriyān
55:51 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥١

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:52 ›
فِیهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةࣲ زَوۡجَانِ ۝٥٢
John Medows Rodwell
In each two kinds of every fruit
fīhimā min kulli fākihatin zawjān
55:53 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٣
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:54 ›
مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَاۤىِٕنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَیۡنِ دَانࣲ ۝٥٤
John Medows Rodwell
On couches with linings of brocade shall they recline, and the fruit of the two gardens shall be within easy reach
muttakiīna ʿalā furushin baṭāinuhā min is'tabraqin wajanā l-janatayni dāni
55:55 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٥

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:56 ›
فِیهِنَّ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٥٦
John Medows Rodwell
Therein shall be the damsels with retiring glances, whom nor man nor djinn hath touched before them
fīhinna qāṣirātu l-ṭarfi lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu
55:57 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٧
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:58 ›
كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡیَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٥٨
John Medows Rodwell
Like jacynths and pearls
ka-annahunna l-yāqūtu wal-marjān
55:59 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٩

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:60 ›
هَلۡ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنُ ۝٦٠

Shall the reward of good be aught but good
hal jazāu l-iḥ'sāni illā l-iḥ'sān
55:61 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦١
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:62 ›
وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ ۝٦٢
John Medows Rodwell
And beside these shall be two other gardens
wamin dūnihimā jannatān
55:63 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٣
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:64 ›
مُدۡهَاۤمَّتَانِ ۝٦٤

Of a dark green
mud'hāmmatān
55:65 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٥

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:66 ›
فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ ۝٦٦

With gushing fountains in each
fīhimā ʿaynāni naḍḍākhatān
55:67 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٧

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:68 ›
فِیهِمَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَنَخۡلࣱ وَرُمَّانࣱ ۝٦٨

In each, fruits and the palm and the pomegranate
fīhimā fākihatun wanakhlun warummānu
55:69 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٩

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:70 ›
فِیهِنَّ خَیۡرَ ٰتٌ حِسَانࣱ ۝٧٠

In each, the fair, the beauteous ones
fīhinna khayrātun ḥisānu
55:71 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧١

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:72 ›
حُورࣱ مَّقۡصُورَ ٰتࣱ فِی ٱلۡخِیَامِ ۝٧٢

With large dark eyeballs, kept close in their pavilions
ḥūrun maqṣūrātun fī l-khiyām
55:73 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٣
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:74 ›
لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٧٤
John Medows Rodwell
Whom man hath never touched, nor any djinn
lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu
55:75 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٥
John Medows Rodwell
Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:76 ›
مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرࣲ وَعَبۡقَرِیٍّ حِسَانࣲ ۝٧٦
John Medows Rodwell
Their spouses on soft green cushions and on beautiful carpets shall recline
muttakiīna ʿalā rafrafin khuḍ'rin waʿabqariyyin ḥisāni
55:77 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٧

Which then of the bounties of your Lord will ye twain deny? [RODWELL: Which, etc.]
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān
55:78 ›
تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِی ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٧٨
John Medows Rodwell
Blessed be the name of thy Lord, full of majesty and glory
tabāraka us'mu rabbika dhī l-jalāli wal-ik'rām
