55:1

۞ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ۝١

Linda "iLham" Barto

The Most Gracious!

al-raḥmān

55:2

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ۝٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

He taught the Qur’an.

khalaqa l-insān

55:3

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ۝٣

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَیَانَ ۝٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

He taught him/her articulate speech.

al-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥus'bāni

55:5

ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانࣲ ۝٥

The sun and the moon follow calculations [of bio-mathematical physics].

Alshshamsu waalqamaru bihusbanin

55:6

وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ یَسۡجُدَانِ ۝٦

Stars and trees bow [in adoration].

wal-najmu wal-shajaru yasjudān

55:7

وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

He lifted the sky, and He formed the balance [using gravity]…

wal-samāa rafaʿahā wawaḍaʿa l-mīzān

55:8

أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡمِیزَانِ ۝٨

…so that you may not fault in measure.

allā taṭghaw fī l-mīzān

55:9

وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُوا۟ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٩

You must, therefore, establish weight with justice and not fall short in the balance.

wa-aqīmū l-wazna bil-qis'ṭi walā tukh'sirū l-mīzān

55:10

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ۝١٠

He has spread the earth for His creatures.

wal-arḍa waḍaʿahā lil'anām

55:11

فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ ۝١١

Therein are fruits and date palms producing clusters.

fīhā fākihatun wal-nakhlu dhātu l-akmām

55:12

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّیۡحَانُ ۝١٢

There is also corn, with husks, and sweet-smelling plants.

wal-ḥabu dhū l-ʿaṣfi wal-rayḥān

55:13

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٣

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both [humans and spirit-beings] deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:14

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ ۝١٤

He created humanity from sounding clay, similar to pottery.

khalaqa l-insāna min ṣalṣālin kal-fakhār

55:15

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَاۤنَّ مِن مَّارِجࣲ مِّن نَّارࣲ ۝١٥

He created spirit-beings from fire free of smoke.

wakhalaqa l-jāna min mārijin min nāri

55:16

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٦

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:17

رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَیۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَیۡنِ ۝١٧

He is the Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests.

rabbu l-mashriqayni warabbu l-maghribayn

55:18

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٨

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:19

مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ یَلۡتَقِیَانِ ۝١٩

He has given freedom to the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together.

maraja l-baḥrayni yaltaqiyān

55:20

بَیۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخࣱ لَّا یَبۡغِیَانِ ۝٢٠

A barrier keeps them apart.

baynahumā barzakhun lā yabghiyān

55:21

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢١

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both [humans and spirit-beings] deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:22

یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٢٢

Out of (the waters) come pearls and coral.

yakhruju min'humā l-lu'lu-u wal-marjān

55:23

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٣

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:24

وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَءَاتُ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَـٰمِ ۝٢٤

He owns the ship sailing smoothly across the sea, [with sails] as lofty as mountains.

walahu l-jawāri l-munshaātu fī l-baḥri kal-aʿlām

55:25

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٥

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:26

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَیۡهَا فَانࣲ ۝٢٦

All that is of (Earth) will perish.

kullu man ʿalayhā fāni

55:27

وَیَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٢٧

But the face of your Lord will abide forever, full of glory and splendor.

wayabqā wajhu rabbika dhū l-jalāli wal-ik'rām

55:28

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٨

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:29

یَسۡءَلُهُۥ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ یَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِی شَأۡنࣲ ۝٢٩

Every creature of the skies and the earth seeks from Him. Every day He appears in splendor.

yasaluhu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi kulla yawmin huwa fī shani

55:30

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٠

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:31

سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَیُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ ۝٣١

Soon shall We settle your affairs, O both worlds [of humans and spirit-beings].

sanafrughu lakum ayyuha l-thaqalān

55:32

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٢

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:33

یَـٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ ۝٣٣

O assembly of spirit-beings and humans, if you can pass beyond the zones of skies and earth, pass, but you will not be able to pass without [Our] authorization.

yāmaʿshara l-jini wal-insi ini is'taṭaʿtum an tanfudhū min aqṭāri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi fa-unfudhū lā tanfudhūna illā bisul'ṭāni

55:34

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٤

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:35

یُرۡسَلُ عَلَیۡكُمَا شُوَاظࣱ مِّن نَّارࣲ وَنُحَاسࣱ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ ۝٣٥

A flame of fire and smoke will be sent upon you. You will not be able to defend yourselves.

yur'salu ʿalaykumā shuwāẓun min nārin wanuḥāsun falā tantaṣirān

55:36

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٦

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:37

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةࣰ كَٱلدِّهَانِ ۝٣٧

The sky will be ripped apart and will look like rosy red oil.

fa-idhā inshaqqati l-samāu fakānat wardatan kal-dihān

55:38

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٨

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:39

فَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لَّا یُسۡءَلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦۤ إِنسࣱ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٣٩

On that day, no question will be asked of a person or a spirit-being about his/her sin.

fayawma-idhin lā yus'alu ʿan dhanbihi insun walā jānnu

55:40

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٠

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:41

یُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِیمَـٰهُمۡ فَیُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَ ٰصِی وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ ۝٤١

The sinners will be known by their marks. They will be seized by their foreheads and their feet.

yuʿ'rafu l-muj'rimūna bisīmāhum fayu'khadhu bil-nawāṣī wal-aqdām

55:42

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٢

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:43

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی یُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٤٣

This is the Hell that the sinners denied.

hādhihi jahannamu allatī yukadhibu bihā l-muj'rimūn

55:44

یَطُوفُونَ بَیۡنَهَا وَبَیۡنَ حَمِیمٍ ءَانࣲ ۝٤٤

They will wander in its midst and in the midst of boiling, scalding water.

yaṭūfūna baynahā wabayna ḥamīmin āni

55:45

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:46

وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ ۝٤٦

For one who respects the standing before the Lord, there will be two gardens.

waliman khāfa maqāma rabbihi jannatān

55:47

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٧

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:48

ذَوَاتَاۤ أَفۡنَانࣲ ۝٤٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will have] widespread branches.

dhawātā afnāni

55:49

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:50

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ تَجۡرِیَانِ ۝٥٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

In them will be two flowing springs.

fīhimā ʿaynāni tajriyān

55:51

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥١

Linda "iLham" Barto

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:52

فِیهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةࣲ زَوۡجَانِ ۝٥٢

In them will be fruits of every kind in pairs.

fīhimā min kulli fākihatin zawjān

55:53

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٣

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:54

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَاۤىِٕنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَیۡنِ دَانࣲ ۝٥٤

They will recline on carpets lined with rich brocade. The fruit of the gardens will be near.

muttakiīna ʿalā furushin baṭāinuhā min is'tabraqin wajanā l-janatayni dāni

55:55

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٥

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:56

فِیهِنَّ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٥٦

In (the gardens) will be attendants who are modest in their gaze. No person or spirit-being will have known them before.

fīhinna qāṣirātu l-ṭarfi lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

55:57

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٧

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:58

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡیَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٥٨

[They will be] like rubies and coral.

ka-annahunna l-yāqūtu wal-marjān

55:59

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٩

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:60

هَلۡ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنُ ۝٦٠

Is there any reward for goodness except goodness?

hal jazāu l-iḥ'sāni illā l-iḥ'sān

55:61

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦١

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:62

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ ۝٦٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

In addition to those two [gardens], there will be two other gardens.

wamin dūnihimā jannatān

55:63

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٣

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:64

مُدۡهَاۤمَّتَانِ ۝٦٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] dark green in color.

mud'hāmmatān

55:65

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٥

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:66

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ ۝٦٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

In them will be two springs gushing forth.

fīhimā ʿaynāni naḍḍākhatān

55:67

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٧

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:68

فِیهِمَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَنَخۡلࣱ وَرُمَّانࣱ ۝٦٨

In them will be fruits, dates, and pomegranates.

fīhimā fākihatun wanakhlun warummānu

55:69

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٩

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:70

فِیهِنَّ خَیۡرَ ٰتٌ حِسَانࣱ ۝٧٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

In them will be good and beautiful beings.

fīhinna khayrātun ḥisānu

55:71

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧١

Linda "iLham" Barto

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:72

حُورࣱ مَّقۡصُورَ ٰتࣱ فِی ٱلۡخِیَامِ ۝٧٢

[There will be] modest companions in gazeboes.

ḥūrun maqṣūrātun fī l-khiyām

55:73

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٣

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:74

لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٧٤

No person or spirit-being will have known them before.

lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

55:75

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٥

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:76

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرࣲ وَعَبۡقَرِیٍّ حِسَانࣲ ۝٧٦

[They will be] reclining on green cushions and beautiful carpets.

muttakiīna ʿalā rafrafin khuḍ'rin waʿabqariyyin ḥisāni

55:77

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٧

So, which of the Lord’s favors will you both deny?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

55:78

تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِی ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٧٨

Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Bounty!

tabāraka us'mu rabbika dhī l-jalāli wal-ik'rām
