1 Divine Beneficence

۞ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ۝١

The Gracious God

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ۝٢

HE taught the Qur'an

khalaqa l-insān

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ۝٣

Khalaqa al-insana

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَیَانَ ۝٤

And taught him plain speech

al-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥus'bāni

ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانࣲ ۝٥

The sun and the moon run their courses according to a fixed reckoning

Alshshamsu waalqamaru bihusbanin

وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ یَسۡجُدَانِ ۝٦

And the stemless plants and the trees humbly submit to HIS Will

wal-najmu wal-shajaru yasjudān

وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٧

And the heaven HE has raised high and set up the measure

wal-samāa rafaʿahā wawaḍaʿa l-mīzān

أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡمِیزَانِ ۝٨

That you may not exceed the measure

allā taṭghaw fī l-mīzān

وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُوا۟ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٩

So weigh all things with justice and fall not short of the measure

wa-aqīmū l-wazna bil-qis'ṭi walā tukh'sirū l-mīzān

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ۝١٠

And HE has set the earth for HIS creatures

wal-arḍa waḍaʿahā lil'anām

فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ ۝١١

Therein are all kinds of fruit and palm-tree with sheaths

fīhā fākihatun wal-nakhlu dhātu l-akmām

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّیۡحَانُ ۝١٢

And grain with its husk and fragrant plants

wal-ḥabu dhū l-ʿaṣfi wal-rayḥān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٣

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, O men and jinn, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ ۝١٤

He created man of dry ringing clay which is like baked pottery

khalaqa l-insāna min ṣalṣālin kal-fakhār

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَاۤنَّ مِن مَّارِجࣲ مِّن نَّارࣲ ۝١٥

And the jinn HE created of the flame of Fire

wakhalaqa l-jāna min mārijin min nāri

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٦

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَیۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَیۡنِ ۝١٧

The Lord of the two Easts and the Lord of the two Wests

rabbu l-mashriqayni warabbu l-maghribayn

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٨

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ یَلۡتَقِیَانِ ۝١٩

HE has made the two bodies of water flow. They will one day meet

maraja l-baḥrayni yaltaqiyān

بَیۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخࣱ لَّا یَبۡغِیَانِ ۝٢٠

Between them there is at present a barrier; they cannot encroach one upon the other

baynahumā barzakhun lā yabghiyān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢١

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٢٢

There come out from both of them pearls and coral

yakhruju min'humā l-lu'lu-u wal-marjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٣

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَءَاتُ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَـٰمِ ۝٢٤

And HIS are the lofty ships reared aloft on the sea like mountains

walahu l-jawāri l-munshaātu fī l-baḥri kal-aʿlām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٥

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

2 Judgment of the Guilty

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَیۡهَا فَانࣲ ۝٢٦

All that is on earth will pass away

kullu man ʿalayhā fāni

وَیَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٢٧

And there will abide for ever only the Person of thy Lord, Master of Glory and Honour

wayabqā wajhu rabbika dhū l-jalāli wal-ik'rām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٨

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَسۡءَلُهُۥ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ یَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِی شَأۡنࣲ ۝٢٩

Of HIM do beg all that are in the heavens and the earth. Everyday HE reveals himself in a different state

yasaluhu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi kulla yawmin huwa fī shani

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٠

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَیُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ ۝٣١

Soon shall WE attend to you, O ye two big groups

sanafrughu lakum ayyuha l-thaqalān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٢

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَـٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ ۝٣٣

O company of jinn and men ! if you have power to break through the confines of the heavens and the earth, then break through them. But you cannot break through save with authority

yāmaʿshara l-jini wal-insi ini is'taṭaʿtum an tanfudhū min aqṭāri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi fa-unfudhū lā tanfudhūna illā bisul'ṭāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٤

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یُرۡسَلُ عَلَیۡكُمَا شُوَاظࣱ مِّن نَّارࣲ وَنُحَاسࣱ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ ۝٣٥

There shall be sent against you a flame of fire, and molten copper; and you shall not be able to help yourselves

yur'salu ʿalaykumā shuwāẓun min nārin wanuḥāsun falā tantaṣirān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٦

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةࣰ كَٱلدِّهَانِ ۝٣٧

And when the heaven is rent asunder and become red like red hide

fa-idhā inshaqqati l-samāu fakānat wardatan kal-dihān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٨

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لَّا یُسۡءَلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦۤ إِنسࣱ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٣٩

On that day neither man nor jinn will be asked about his sin

fayawma-idhin lā yus'alu ʿan dhanbihi insun walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٠

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِیمَـٰهُمۡ فَیُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَ ٰصِی وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ ۝٤١

The guilty will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet

yuʿ'rafu l-muj'rimūna bisīmāhum fayu'khadhu bil-nawāṣī wal-aqdām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٢

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی یُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٤٣

And they will be told: `This is the Hell which the guilty denied

hādhihi jahannamu allatī yukadhibu bihā l-muj'rimūn

یَطُوفُونَ بَیۡنَهَا وَبَیۡنَ حَمِیمٍ ءَانࣲ ۝٤٤

`Between it and the fierce boiling water will they go round.

yaṭūfūna baynahā wabayna ḥamīmin āni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٥

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

3 Reward of the Righteous

وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ ۝٤٦

And for him who fears to stand before his Lord there are two gardens

waliman khāfa maqāma rabbihi jannatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٧

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

ذَوَاتَاۤ أَفۡنَانࣲ ۝٤٨

Having many varieties of trees

dhawātā afnāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٩

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ تَجۡرِیَانِ ۝٥٠

In each of them there are two fountains flowing freely

fīhimā ʿaynāni tajriyān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥١

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةࣲ زَوۡجَانِ ۝٥٢

Therein will be every kind of fruit in pairs

fīhimā min kulli fākihatin zawjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٣

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَاۤىِٕنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَیۡنِ دَانࣲ ۝٥٤

The inmates thereof will recline on couches over carpets, the linings of which will be of thick brocade. And the fruit of the two Gardens will be within their easy reach

muttakiīna ʿalā furushin baṭāinuhā min is'tabraqin wajanā l-janatayni dāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٥

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِنَّ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٥٦

Therein will also be chaste maidens restraining their glances, whom neither man nor jinn will have touched before them

fīhinna qāṣirātu l-ṭarfi lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٧

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡیَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٥٨

As if they were rubies and small pearls

ka-annahunna l-yāqūtu wal-marjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٩

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

هَلۡ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنُ ۝٦٠

Is the reward of goodness anything but goodness

hal jazāu l-iḥ'sāni illā l-iḥ'sān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦١

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ ۝٦٢

And besides these two, there are two other gardens

wamin dūnihimā jannatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٣

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُدۡهَاۤمَّتَانِ ۝٦٤

Dark green with foliage

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٥

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ ۝٦٦

Therein also will be two springs, gushing forth with water

fīhimā ʿaynāni naḍḍākhatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٧

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَنَخۡلࣱ وَرُمَّانࣱ ۝٦٨

In both of them there will be all kinds of fruit, and dates and pomegranates

fīhimā fākihatun wanakhlun warummānu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٩

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِنَّ خَیۡرَ ٰتٌ حِسَانࣱ ۝٧٠

Therein will be maidens, good and beautiful.

fīhinna khayrātun ḥisānu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧١

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

حُورࣱ مَّقۡصُورَ ٰتࣱ فِی ٱلۡخِیَامِ ۝٧٢

Fair maidens with lovely black eyes, guarded in pavilions

ḥūrun maqṣūrātun fī l-khiyām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٣

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٧٤

Whom neither man nor jinn will have touched before them

lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٥

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرࣲ وَعَبۡقَرِیٍّ حِسَانࣲ ۝٧٦

Reclining on green cushions and beautiful carpets

muttakiīna ʿalā rafrafin khuḍ'rin waʿabqariyyin ḥisāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٧

Which, then, of the favours of your Lord will ye twain, deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِی ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٧٨

Blessed is the name of thy Lord, Master of Glory and Honour

tabāraka us'mu rabbika dhī l-jalāli wal-ik'rām
