1 Divine Beneficence

۞ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ۝١

The Bestower of unlimited mercy —

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ۝٢

has taught (to mankind) Al-Quran

khalaqa l-insān

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ۝٣

He created the human being

Khalaqa al-insana

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَیَانَ ۝٤

He taught him Al-Bayan [‘The Explanation (to every query)’]

al-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥus'bāni

ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانࣲ ۝٥

The sun and the moon (move) under a mathematical calculation

Alshshamsu waalqamaru bihusbanin

وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ یَسۡجُدَانِ ۝٦

And the stars and the trees both submit (to the laws of God)

wal-najmu wal-shajaru yasjudān

وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٧

And the heaven: He has raised it high; and He has evolved the balance —

wal-samāa rafaʿahā wawaḍaʿa l-mīzān

أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡمِیزَانِ ۝٨

in order that you may not transgress in the weights and measures

allā taṭghaw fī l-mīzān

وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُوا۟ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٩

And stick to the measures and weights with full justice, and do not make deficient the weights and measures

wa-aqīmū l-wazna bil-qis'ṭi walā tukh'sirū l-mīzān

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ۝١٠

And the earth — He evolved it for the creatures

wal-arḍa waḍaʿahā lil'anām

فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ ۝١١

therein are fruits and date-palms out-growing sheathed fruit-stalks (enclosing the raw-dates)

fīhā fākihatun wal-nakhlu dhātu l-akmām

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّیۡحَانُ ۝١٢

and the husked grain, and the fragrant scented plant

wal-ḥabu dhū l-ʿaṣfi wal-rayḥān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٣

Then with what Majesties (Blessings or Favours) of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain (i.e., the jinns and the mankind) shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ ۝١٤

He created (the first of the) human being from sounding clay, like the clay-pieces of broken pottery

khalaqa l-insāna min ṣalṣālin kal-fakhār

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَاۤنَّ مِن مَّارِجࣲ مِّن نَّارࣲ ۝١٥

And He created the jinns from a smokeless flame of fire

wakhalaqa l-jāna min mārijin min nāri

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٦

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَیۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَیۡنِ ۝١٧

Rabb to the two easts, and Rabb to the two wests

rabbu l-mashriqayni warabbu l-maghribayn

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٨

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ یَلۡتَقِیَانِ ۝١٩

He has made to flow two seas — they meet each other

maraja l-baḥrayni yaltaqiyān

بَیۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخࣱ لَّا یَبۡغِیَانِ ۝٢٠

(yet) between those two (exists) a barrier.Both (of them) dishonour (it) not (and thus maintain separate properties and taste of their waters)

baynahumā barzakhun lā yabghiyān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢١

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٢٢

Out of those two come out pearls and coral

yakhruju min'humā l-lu'lu-u wal-marjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٣

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَءَاتُ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَـٰمِ ۝٢٤

And to Him belong the sailing ships in the seas, like mountains

walahu l-jawāri l-munshaātu fī l-baḥri kal-aʿlām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٥

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

2 Judgment of the Guilty

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَیۡهَا فَانࣲ ۝٢٦

All that whoever is on this (earth) is one who must perish

kullu man ʿalayhā fāni

وَیَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٢٧

and shall abide the Face of your Nourisher-Sustainer, Owner of the Glory and the Honour

wayabqā wajhu rabbika dhū l-jalāli wal-ik'rām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٨

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَسۡءَلُهُۥ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ یَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِی شَأۡنࣲ ۝٢٩

Invokes Him whosoever is in the heavens and the earth. Each and every day He (appears) in a (new) Dimension

yasaluhu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi kulla yawmin huwa fī shani

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٠

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَیُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ ۝٣١

Soon We pay you attention O you two burdened groups

sanafrughu lakum ayyuha l-thaqalān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٢

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَـٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ ۝٣٣

O assembly of the jinns and mankind! If you had the ability that you go beyond the confines of the heavens and the earth, then do go beyond. You shall not go beyond except (when properly equipped) with power

yāmaʿshara l-jini wal-insi ini is'taṭaʿtum an tanfudhū min aqṭāri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi fa-unfudhū lā tanfudhūna illā bisul'ṭāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٤

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یُرۡسَلُ عَلَیۡكُمَا شُوَاظࣱ مِّن نَّارࣲ وَنُحَاسࣱ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ ۝٣٥

There will be sent against you both, a smokeless flame of fire and heated smoke; then you shall not take aid and assistance and defend one another

yur'salu ʿalaykumā shuwāẓun min nārin wanuḥāsun falā tantaṣirān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٦

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةࣰ كَٱلدِّهَانِ ۝٣٧

So when the heaven has developed cracks and it has become rosy pink like (olive) oil

fa-idhā inshaqqati l-samāu fakānat wardatan kal-dihān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٨

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لَّا یُسۡءَلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦۤ إِنسࣱ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٣٩

So this Day no question will be asked to a human being and nor to a jinn about his sin

fayawma-idhin lā yus'alu ʿan dhanbihi insun walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٠

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِیمَـٰهُمۡ فَیُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَ ٰصِی وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ ۝٤١

The criminals will be recognised by their marks (of disobedience and arrogance), so he will be seized by forelocks and the feet

yuʿ'rafu l-muj'rimūna bisīmāhum fayu'khadhu bil-nawāṣī wal-aqdām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٢

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی یُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٤٣

This happens to be Hell the criminals denied thereof

hādhihi jahannamu allatī yukadhibu bihā l-muj'rimūn

یَطُوفُونَ بَیۡنَهَا وَبَیۡنَ حَمِیمٍ ءَانࣲ ۝٤٤

They will move between it and between hot water — violently boiling

yaṭūfūna baynahā wabayna ḥamīmin āni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٥

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

3 Reward of the Righteous

وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ ۝٤٦

And for that who realised the Position of his Nourisher-Sustainer, (are ready) two orchards (in Paradise)

waliman khāfa maqāma rabbihi jannatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٧

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

ذَوَاتَاۤ أَفۡنَانࣲ ۝٤٨

Both possessors of spreading branches

dhawātā afnāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٩

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ تَجۡرِیَانِ ۝٥٠

In these two (orchards are) two springs — both flow swiftly

fīhimā ʿaynāni tajriyān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥١

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةࣲ زَوۡجَانِ ۝٥٢

In these two (are available) out of every kind of (wet and dry) fruits — two kinds

fīhimā min kulli fākihatin zawjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٣

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَاۤىِٕنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَیۡنِ دَانࣲ ۝٥٤

(Those who have entered Paradise are) recliners on the carpets whose under-lining (is made) of silk-brocade; and the product of the two orchards being very close, easy of reach

muttakiīna ʿalā furushin baṭāinuhā min is'tabraqin wajanā l-janatayni dāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٥

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِنَّ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٥٦

In these (are wonderful members of a new creation) who restrain the glance. No human being has become acquainted of them before those (Believers who have been allowed entry in Paradise) and nor a jinn

fīhinna qāṣirātu l-ṭarfi lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٧

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡیَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٥٨

(In beauty) — as if they (are) the rubies and the corals

ka-annahunna l-yāqūtu wal-marjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٩

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

هَلۡ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنُ ۝٦٠

What becomes the reward of goodness in excellence except excellent goodness

hal jazāu l-iḥ'sāni illā l-iḥ'sān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦١

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ ۝٦٢

And besides these two (orchards, there will be other) two orchards

wamin dūnihimā jannatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٣

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُدۡهَاۤمَّتَانِ ۝٦٤

Both possessing lush-green appearance

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٥

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ ۝٦٦

In these two (latter orchards are) two springs, both gushing forth (their) water

fīhimā ʿaynāni naḍḍākhatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٧

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَنَخۡلࣱ وَرُمَّانࣱ ۝٦٨

In both these orchards (are available dry and wet) fruits, and date-palm and pomegranate

fīhimā fākihatun wanakhlun warummānu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٩

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِنَّ خَیۡرَ ٰتٌ حِسَانࣱ ۝٧٠

In these (personalities are ingrained) virtues (and) sincerities

fīhinna khayrātun ḥisānu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧١

Then with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

حُورࣱ مَّقۡصُورَ ٰتࣱ فِی ٱلۡخِیَامِ ۝٧٢

Hur — restrained personalities within pavilions

ḥūrun maqṣūrātun fī l-khiyām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٣

Then, with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٧٤

No human being has become acquainted of them before those (Believers who have been allowed entry in Paradise) and nor a jinn

lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٥

Then, with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرࣲ وَعَبۡقَرِیٍّ حِسَانࣲ ۝٧٦

(The Believers in Paradise are such) who recline on green cushion and on mattress, excellent ones

muttakiīna ʿalā rafrafin khuḍ'rin waʿabqariyyin ḥisāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٧

Then, with what Majesties of the Nourisher-Sustainer of you two, you twain shall commit denial

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِی ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٧٨

Blessed became the Name of your Rabb, Owner of the Glory and the Honour

tabāraka us'mu rabbika dhī l-jalāli wal-ik'rām
