1 Divine Beneficence

۞ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ۝١

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ ۝٢

Bestowed the Qur'an

khalaqa l-insān

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ۝٣

Khalaqa al-insana

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلۡبَیَانَ ۝٤

And taught him to express clearly

al-shamsu wal-qamaru biḥus'bāni

ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ بِحُسۡبَانࣲ ۝٥

The sun and moon revolve to a computation

Alshshamsu waalqamaru bihusbanin

وَٱلنَّجۡمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ یَسۡجُدَانِ ۝٦

And the grasses and the trees bow (to Him) in adoration

wal-najmu wal-shajaru yasjudān

وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٧

He raised the sky and set the Balanc

wal-samāa rafaʿahā wawaḍaʿa l-mīzān

أَلَّا تَطۡغَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡمِیزَانِ ۝٨

So that none may err against the scales

allā taṭghaw fī l-mīzān

وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلۡوَزۡنَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَلَا تُخۡسِرُوا۟ ٱلۡمِیزَانَ ۝٩

And observe correct measure, weigh with justice, and not cheat the balance

wa-aqīmū l-wazna bil-qis'ṭi walā tukh'sirū l-mīzān

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلۡأَنَامِ ۝١٠

He positioned the earth for all the creatures

wal-arḍa waḍaʿahā lil'anām

فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَٱلنَّخۡلُ ذَاتُ ٱلۡأَكۡمَامِ ۝١١

There are fruits of all kinds on it, and date-palms with their clusters sheathed

fīhā fākihatun wal-nakhlu dhātu l-akmām

وَٱلۡحَبُّ ذُو ٱلۡعَصۡفِ وَٱلرَّیۡحَانُ ۝١٢

Grain with husk, and fragrant grasses

wal-ḥabu dhū l-ʿaṣfi wal-rayḥān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٣

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلۡصَـٰلࣲ كَٱلۡفَخَّارِ ۝١٤

He created man of fermented clay dried tinkling hard like earthen ware

khalaqa l-insāna min ṣalṣālin kal-fakhār

وَخَلَقَ ٱلۡجَاۤنَّ مِن مَّارِجࣲ مِّن نَّارࣲ ۝١٥

And created jinns from the white-hot flame of fire

wakhalaqa l-jāna min mārijin min nāri

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٦

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَیۡنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَغۡرِبَیۡنِ ۝١٧

Lord of the two Easts, Lord of the two Wests

rabbu l-mashriqayni warabbu l-maghribayn

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٨

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مَرَجَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ یَلۡتَقِیَانِ ۝١٩

He has set two seas in motion that flow side by side together

maraja l-baḥrayni yaltaqiyān

بَیۡنَهُمَا بَرۡزَخࣱ لَّا یَبۡغِیَانِ ۝٢٠

With an interstice between them which they cannot cross

baynahumā barzakhun lā yabghiyān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢١

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَخۡرُجُ مِنۡهُمَا ٱللُّؤۡلُؤُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٢٢

Out of them come pearls and coral

yakhruju min'humā l-lu'lu-u wal-marjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٣

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

وَلَهُ ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡمُنشَءَاتُ فِی ٱلۡبَحۡرِ كَٱلۡأَعۡلَـٰمِ ۝٢٤

His are the high-sailed vessels in deep ocean like the mountains

walahu l-jawāri l-munshaātu fī l-baḥri kal-aʿlām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٥

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

2 Judgment of the Guilty

كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَیۡهَا فَانࣲ ۝٢٦

All that is on the earth is passing

kullu man ʿalayhā fāni

وَیَبۡقَىٰ وَجۡهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٢٧

But abiding is the glory of your Lord, full of majesty and beneficence

wayabqā wajhu rabbika dhū l-jalāli wal-ik'rām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٨

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَسۡءَلُهُۥ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ كُلَّ یَوۡمٍ هُوَ فِی شَأۡنࣲ ۝٢٩

All those there are in the heavens and the earth turn to Him with solicitation, intent on His purpose all the time

yasaluhu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi kulla yawmin huwa fī shani

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٠

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

سَنَفۡرُغُ لَكُمۡ أَیُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ ۝٣١

We shall soon be free to turn to you, O weary caravans

sanafrughu lakum ayyuha l-thaqalān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٢

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یَـٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُمۡ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنۡ أَقۡطَارِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ ۝٣٣

O society of jinns and men, cross the bounds of the heavens and the earth if you have the ability, then pass beyond them; but you cannot unless you acquire the law

yāmaʿshara l-jini wal-insi ini is'taṭaʿtum an tanfudhū min aqṭāri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi fa-unfudhū lā tanfudhūna illā bisul'ṭāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٤

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یُرۡسَلُ عَلَیۡكُمَا شُوَاظࣱ مِّن نَّارࣲ وَنُحَاسࣱ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ ۝٣٥

Let loose at you will be smokeless flames of fire so that you will not be able to defend yourselves

yur'salu ʿalaykumā shuwāẓun min nārin wanuḥāsun falā tantaṣirān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٦

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ فَكَانَتۡ وَرۡدَةࣰ كَٱلدِّهَانِ ۝٣٧

When the sky will split asunder, and turn rosy like the dregs of annointing oil

fa-idhā inshaqqati l-samāu fakānat wardatan kal-dihān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٣٨

Which of the favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لَّا یُسۡءَلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦۤ إِنسࣱ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٣٩

Neither man nor jinn will be questioned on that day about his sin

fayawma-idhin lā yus'alu ʿan dhanbihi insun walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٠

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

یُعۡرَفُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ بِسِیمَـٰهُمۡ فَیُؤۡخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَ ٰصِی وَٱلۡأَقۡدَامِ ۝٤١

The sinners will be recognised by their marks, and seized by the forelock and their feet

yuʿ'rafu l-muj'rimūna bisīmāhum fayu'khadhu bil-nawāṣī wal-aqdām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٢

Which of the favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِی یُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٤٣

This is Hell the sinners called a lie

hādhihi jahannamu allatī yukadhibu bihā l-muj'rimūn

یَطُوفُونَ بَیۡنَهَا وَبَیۡنَ حَمِیمٍ ءَانࣲ ۝٤٤

They will go round and around between it and boiling water

yaṭūfūna baynahā wabayna ḥamīmin āni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٥

Which of the favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

3 Reward of the Righteous

وَلِمَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ ۝٤٦

But for him who lived in awe of the sublimity of his Lord, there will be two gardens -

waliman khāfa maqāma rabbihi jannatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٧

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

ذَوَاتَاۤ أَفۡنَانࣲ ۝٤٨

Full of overhanging branches -

dhawātā afnāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٩

Which of the favours of your Lord will you then deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ تَجۡرِیَانِ ۝٥٠

With two springs of water flowing through them both. -

fīhimā ʿaynāni tajriyān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥١

Which of the favours of your Lord will then both of you deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةࣲ زَوۡجَانِ ۝٥٢

In both of them there will be every kind of fruits in pairs. -

fīhimā min kulli fākihatin zawjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٣

Which of the favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشِۭ بَطَاۤىِٕنُهَا مِنۡ إِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲۚ وَجَنَى ٱلۡجَنَّتَیۡنِ دَانࣲ ۝٥٤

Reclining there on carpets lined with brocade, fruits of the garden hanging low within reach

muttakiīna ʿalā furushin baṭāinuhā min is'tabraqin wajanā l-janatayni dāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٥

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِنَّ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٥٦

In them maidens with averted glances, undeflowered by man or by jinn before them, -

fīhinna qāṣirātu l-ṭarfi lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٧

Which of the favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلۡیَاقُوتُ وَٱلۡمَرۡجَانُ ۝٥٨

As though rubies and pearls

ka-annahunna l-yāqūtu wal-marjān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٩

Which of the favours of your Lord will then both of you deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

هَلۡ جَزَاۤءُ ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنُ ۝٦٠

Should the reward of goodness be aught else but goodness? -

hal jazāu l-iḥ'sāni illā l-iḥ'sān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦١

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ ۝٦٢

And besides these two other gardens -

wamin dūnihimā jannatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٣

Which of the favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُدۡهَاۤمَّتَانِ ۝٦٤

Of darkest verdant green -

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٥

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا عَیۡنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ ۝٦٦

With two fountains gushing constantly, -

fīhimā ʿaynāni naḍḍākhatān

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٧

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِمَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ وَنَخۡلࣱ وَرُمَّانࣱ ۝٦٨

With fruits in them, and dates and pomegranates -

fīhimā fākihatun wanakhlun warummānu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٩

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

فِیهِنَّ خَیۡرَ ٰتٌ حِسَانࣱ ۝٧٠

In them good and comely maidens -

fīhinna khayrātun ḥisānu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧١

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

حُورࣱ مَّقۡصُورَ ٰتࣱ فِی ٱلۡخِیَامِ ۝٧٢

Houris cloistered in pavilions -

ḥūrun maqṣūrātun fī l-khiyām

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٣

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

لَمۡ یَطۡمِثۡهُنَّ إِنسࣱ قَبۡلَهُمۡ وَلَا جَاۤنࣱّ ۝٧٤

Undeflowered by man or by jinn before them, -

lam yaṭmith'hunna insun qablahum walā jānnu

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٥

How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ رَفۡرَفٍ خُضۡرࣲ وَعَبۡقَرِیٍّ حِسَانࣲ ۝٧٦

Reclining on green cushions and rich carpets excellent

muttakiīna ʿalā rafrafin khuḍ'rin waʿabqariyyin ḥisāni

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٧٧

How many favours of your Lord will you then deny

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbikumā tukadhibān

تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱسۡمُ رَبِّكَ ذِی ٱلۡجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلۡإِكۡرَامِ ۝٧٨

Blessed be the name of your Lord, full of majesty and beneficience

tabāraka us'mu rabbika dhī l-jalāli wal-ik'rām
