56:1

۞ إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ ۝١

Linda "iLham" Barto

When the inevitable event comes to pass,…

idhā waqaʿati l-wāqiʿat

56:2

لَیۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ۝٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

…no one will be able to deny its reality.

laysa liwaqʿatihā kādhibatu

56:3

خَافِضَةࣱ رَّافِعَةٌ ۝٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

It will debase; it will exalt.

khāfiḍatun rāfiʿatu

56:4

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجࣰّا ۝٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

The earth will shake violently.

idhā rujjati l-arḍu rajja

56:5

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسࣰّا ۝٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

The mountains will crumble…

wabussati l-jibālu bassa

56:6

فَكَانَتۡ هَبَاۤءࣰ مُّنۢبَثࣰّا ۝٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

…and collapse.

fakānat habāan munbatha

56:7

وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا ثَلَـٰثَةࣰ ۝٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

You [humanity] will belong to three classes:

wakuntum azwājan thalāthata

56:8

فَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَیۡمَنَةِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَیۡمَنَةِ ۝٨

The companions of the right. What will be the companions of the right?

fa-aṣḥābu l-maymanati mā aṣḥābu l-maymanat

56:9

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡءَمَةِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡءَمَةِ ۝٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

The companions of the left. What will be the companions of the left?

wa-aṣḥābu l-mashamati mā aṣḥābu l-mashamat

56:10

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ۝١٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

The foremost will be foremost.

wal-sābiqūna l-sābiqūn

56:11

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ ۝١١

Linda "iLham" Barto

These will be those nearest [to Allah].

ulāika l-muqarabūn

56:12

فِی جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِیمِ ۝١٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] in gardens of bliss.

fī jannāti l-naʿīm

56:13

ثُلَّةࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] a number [of people] from ancient times…

thullatun mina l-awalīn

56:14

وَقَلِیلࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

…and a few from later times.

waqalīlun mina l-ākhirīn

56:15

عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مَّوۡضُونَةࣲ ۝١٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] on ornate thrones,…

muttakiīna ʿalayhā mutaqābilīn

56:16

مُّتَّكِءِینَ عَلَیۡهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِینَ ۝١٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

…reclining on them, facing one another.

Muttaki-eena AAalayha mutaqabileena

56:17

یَطُوفُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَ ٰنࣱ مُّخَلَّدُونَ ۝١٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Around them immortal youths will serve…

yaṭūfu ʿalayhim wil'dānun mukhalladūn

56:18

بِأَكۡوَابࣲ وَأَبَارِیقَ وَكَأۡسࣲ مِّن مَّعِینࣲ ۝١٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

…goblets, pitchers, and a flask filled from pure, flowing fountains.

bi-akwābin wa-abārīqa wakasin min maʿīni

56:19

لَّا یُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا یُنزِفُونَ ۝١٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

(The companions) will not get a hangover or suffer intoxication.

lā yuṣaddaʿūna ʿanhā walā yunzifūn

56:20

وَفَـٰكِهَةࣲ مِّمَّا یَتَخَیَّرُونَ ۝٢٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

They will have any fruits they may select…

wafākihatin mimmā yatakhayyarūn

56:21

وَلَحۡمِ طَیۡرࣲ مِّمَّا یَشۡتَهُونَ ۝٢١

Linda "iLham" Barto

…and any poultry they want.

walaḥmi ṭayrin mimmā yashtahūn

56:22

وَحُورٌ عِینࣱ ۝٢٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Companions with attractive eyes, wide [with delight],…

waḥūrun ʿīnu

56:23

كَأَمۡثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ ۝٢٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

…will be like safely guarded pearls.

ka-amthāli l-lu'lu-i l-maknūn

56:24

جَزَاۤءَۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

A reward for the deeds of their past will be…

jazāan bimā kānū yaʿmalūn

56:25

لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ فِیهَا لَغۡوࣰا وَلَا تَأۡثِیمًا ۝٢٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

…no frivolous talk heard therein and no taint of hostility.

lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan walā tathīma

56:26

إِلَّا قِیلࣰا سَلَـٰمࣰا سَلَـٰمࣰا ۝٢٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will hear] only the saying, “Peace! Peace!”

illā qīlan salāman salāma

56:27

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡیَمِینِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٢٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

The companions of the right! What will be the companions of the right?

wa-aṣḥābu l-yamīni mā aṣḥābu l-yamīn

56:28

فِی سِدۡرࣲ مَّخۡضُودࣲ ۝٢٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] among lote trees without thorns.

fī sid'rin makhḍūdi

56:29

وَطَلۡحࣲ مَّنضُودࣲ ۝٢٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] among banana trees, layered [with bananas].

waṭalḥin manḍūdi

56:30

وَظِلࣲّ مَّمۡدُودࣲ ۝٣٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] in extended shade…

waẓillin mamdūdi

56:31

وَمَاۤءࣲ مَّسۡكُوبࣲ ۝٣١

Linda "iLham" Barto

…beside flowing water.

wamāin maskūbi

56:32

وَفَـٰكِهَةࣲ كَثِیرَةࣲ ۝٣٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Fruit [will be] in abundance.

wafākihatin kathīrati

56:33

لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةࣲ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةࣲ ۝٣٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

It will not be limited or forbidden.

lā maqṭūʿatin walā mamnūʿati

56:34

وَفُرُشࣲ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ ۝٣٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

[The companions will be] on lifted couches.

wafurushin marfūʿati

56:35

إِنَّاۤ أَنشَأۡنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَاۤءࣰ ۝٣٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, We have created them of a special creation.

innā anshanāhunna inshāa

56:36

فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا ۝٣٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

We have made them pure.

fajaʿalnāhunna abkāra

56:37

عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابࣰا ۝٣٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They are] loving and equal in age…

li-aṣḥābi l-yamīn

56:38

لِّأَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٣٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

…for the companions of the right.

Li-as-habi alyameeni

56:39

ثُلَّةࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٣٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Some of them will be from days of old.

thullatun mina l-awalīn

56:40

وَثُلَّةࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٤٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

Some of them will be from later times.

wathullatun mina l-ākhirīn

56:41

وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ ۝٤١

Linda "iLham" Barto

The companions of the left! What will be the companions of the left?

wa-aṣḥābu l-shimāli mā aṣḥābu l-shimāl

56:42

فِی سَمُومࣲ وَحَمِیمࣲ ۝٤٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] in the midst of scorching wind and scalding water.

fī samūmin waḥamīmi

56:43

وَظِلࣲّ مِّن یَحۡمُومࣲ ۝٤٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

[They will be] in the shadow of black smoke.

waẓillin min yaḥmūmi

56:44

لَّا بَارِدࣲ وَلَا كَرِیمٍ ۝٤٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

There will be nothing cooling or refreshing.

lā bāridin walā karīmi

56:45

إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَبۡلَ ذَ ٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِینَ ۝٤٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Indeed, they previously indulged in luxury [in their lives on Earth].

innahum kānū qabla dhālika mut'rafīn

56:46

وَكَانُوا۟ یُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٤٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

They persisted in terrible sin.

wakānū yuṣirrūna ʿalā l-ḥinthi l-ʿaẓīm

56:47

وَكَانُوا۟ یَقُولُونَ أَىِٕذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝٤٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

They used to say, “When we die and become dust and bones, will we really be raised again,…

wakānū yaqūlūna a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn

56:48

أَوَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝٤٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

…along with our ancestors?”

awaābāunā l-awalūn

56:49

قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ وَٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٤٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Say, “Indeed, those [ancestors] of old and those of later times.

qul inna l-awalīna wal-ākhirīn

56:50

لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِیقَـٰتِ یَوۡمࣲ مَّعۡلُومࣲ ۝٥٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

“All will certainly be assembled for the meeting appointed for a well-known day.

lamajmūʿūna ilā mīqāti yawmin maʿlūmi

56:51

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَیُّهَا ٱلضَّاۤلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٥١

Linda "iLham" Barto

“Truly, you will, O you sinners who regarded truth as false.

thumma innakum ayyuhā l-ḍālūna l-mukadhibūn

56:52

لَءَاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرࣲ مِّن زَقُّومࣲ ۝٥٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

“You will certainly taste the Tree of Bitterness.

laākilūna min shajarin min zaqqūmi

56:53

فَمَالِءُونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ۝٥٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

“You will fill your bellies with it.

famāliūna min'hā l-buṭūn

56:54

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَیۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِیمِ ۝٥٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

“[You will] drink boiling water on top of it.

fashāribūna ʿalayhi mina l-ḥamīm

56:55

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِیمِ ۝٥٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

“You will drink like thirsty camels.”

fashāribūna shur'ba l-hīm

56:56

هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٥٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

That will be their hospitality on the Day of Atonement.

hādhā nuzuluhum yawma l-dīn

56:57

نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ ۝٥٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

We created you. Why then do you not believe in Me?

naḥnu khalaqnākum falawlā tuṣaddiqūn

56:58

أَفَرَءَیۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ ۝٥٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you consider the reproductive sperm and ovum?

afara-aytum mā tum'nūn

56:59

ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥۤ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقُونَ ۝٥٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Are they created by you, or are We the Creator?

a-antum takhluqūnahu am naḥnu l-khāliqūn

56:60

نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَیۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِینَ ۝٦٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

We have decreed that death be your shared fate. We will not be frustrated…

naḥnu qaddarnā baynakumu l-mawta wamā naḥnu bimasbūqīn

56:61

عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَـٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِی مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦١

Linda "iLham" Barto

…from changing your life form into something new to you.

walaqad ʿalim'tumu l-nashata l-ūlā falawlā tadhakkarūn

56:62

وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٦٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

You are certainly familiar with the first form of creation. Why then would you not ponder [the spiritual form]?

Walaqad AAalimtumu alnnash-ata al-oola falawla tathakkaroona

56:63

أَفَرَءَیۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ ۝٦٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you consider what you cultivate?

afara-aytum mā taḥruthūn

56:64

ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥۤ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّ ٰرِعُونَ ۝٦٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you cause it to sprout, or do We?

a-antum tazraʿūnahu am naḥnu l-zāriʿūn

56:65

لَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمࣰا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ ۝٦٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

If it were our intention, we could have crumbled (the seeds) to dust, and you would be left bewildered.

law nashāu lajaʿalnāhu ḥuṭāman faẓaltum tafakkahūn

56:66

إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ ۝٦٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

[You would complain,] “We are burdened with debt.

innā lamugh'ramūn

56:67

بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ ۝٦٧

أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ ٱلَّذِی تَشۡرَبُونَ ۝٦٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you consider the water you drink?

afara-aytumu l-māa alladhī tashrabūn

56:69

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ ۝٦٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you entice it from the clouds, or do We?

a-antum anzaltumūhu mina l-muz'ni am naḥnu l-munzilūn

56:70

لَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ أُجَاجࣰا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

If it were Our intention, We could make it salty and bitter. Why then do you not give thanks?

law nashāu jaʿalnāhu ujājan falawlā tashkurūn

56:71

أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِی تُورُونَ ۝٧١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you consider the fire you kindle?

afara-aytumu l-nāra allatī tūrūn

56:72

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَاۤ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِءُونَ ۝٧٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Do you grow the timber [from which the fire is fed], or do We?

a-antum anshatum shajaratahā am naḥnu l-munshiūn

56:73

نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةࣰ وَمَتَـٰعࣰا لِّلۡمُقۡوِینَ ۝٧٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

We have made it a token [of Our gifts] and a thing of comfort and ease for campers in the wilderness.

naḥnu jaʿalnāhā tadhkiratan wamatāʿan lil'muq'wīn

56:74

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٧٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

Glorify, then, the Name of your Lord the Supreme Being.

fasabbiḥ bi-is'mi rabbika l-ʿaẓīm

56:75

۞ فَلَاۤ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَ ٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٧٥

Furthermore, I call to witness the setting of the stars.

falā uq'simu bimawāqiʿi l-nujūm

56:76

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمࣱ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِیمٌ ۝٧٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

That is truly a mighty testament, if you only knew!

wa-innahu laqasamun law taʿlamūna ʿaẓīmu

56:77

إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانࣱ كَرِیمࣱ ۝٧٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

[It speaks to the fact] that this is truly a most honorable Qur’an.

innahu laqur'ānun karīmu

56:78

فِی كِتَـٰبࣲ مَّكۡنُونࣲ ۝٧٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

[It is] in a Book well-guarded.

fī kitābin maknūni

56:79

لَّا یَمَسُّهُۥۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ ۝٧٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

None shall touch it except those who are clean.

lā yamassuhu illā l-muṭaharūn

56:80

تَنزِیلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٠

Linda "iLham" Barto

[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

tanzīlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

56:81

أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِیثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ ۝٨١

Linda "iLham" Barto

Is it to this teaching that you are indifferent?

afabihādhā l-ḥadīthi antum mud'hinūn

56:82

وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٨٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

Have you made it your life’s work to prove it false?

watajʿalūna riz'qakum annakum tukadhibūn

56:83

فَلَوۡلَاۤ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ ۝٨٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

Then why do you not act when (the soul) reaches the throat,…

falawlā idhā balaghati l-ḥul'qūm

56:84

وَأَنتُمۡ حِینَىِٕذࣲ تَنظُرُونَ ۝٨٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

…while you are looking on?

wa-antum ḥīna-idhin tanẓurūn

56:85

وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٨٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

We are nearer to (the dying person) than you, and you do not see.

wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walākin lā tub'ṣirūn

56:86

فَلَوۡلَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَیۡرَ مَدِینِینَ ۝٨٦

Linda "iLham" Barto

Why [do you not act] if you are not held to account?

falawlā in kuntum ghayra madīnīn

56:87

تَرۡجِعُونَهَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٨٧

Linda "iLham" Barto

Call back (the soul) if you are honest.

tarjiʿūnahā in kuntum ṣādiqīn

56:88

فَأَمَّاۤ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِینَ ۝٨٨

Linda "iLham" Barto

If someone is brought near to Allah,…

fa-ammā in kāna mina l-muqarabīn

56:89

فَرَوۡحࣱ وَرَیۡحَانࣱ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِیمࣲ ۝٨٩

Linda "iLham" Barto

…then rest and satisfaction and a garden of goodness [awaits him/her].

farawḥun warayḥānun wajannatu naʿīmi

56:90

وَأَمَّاۤ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٩٠

If he/she is among the companions of the right:…

wa-ammā in kāna min aṣḥābi l-yamīn

56:91

فَسَلَـٰمࣱ لَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٩١

Linda "iLham" Barto

…“Peace unto you,” from the companions of the right.

fasalāmun laka min aṣḥābi l-yamīn

56:92

وَأَمَّاۤ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِینَ ٱلضَّاۤلِّینَ ۝٩٢

Linda "iLham" Barto

If he/she is among those who treat truth as a lie and who sin,…

wa-ammā in kāna mina l-mukadhibīna l-ḍālīn

56:93

فَنُزُلࣱ مِّنۡ حَمِیمࣲ ۝٩٣

Linda "iLham" Barto

…his/her hospitality will be scalding water.

fanuzulun min ḥamīmi

56:94

وَتَصۡلِیَةُ جَحِیمٍ ۝٩٤

Linda "iLham" Barto

[He/she will be exposed to] burning in Hell.

wataṣliyatu jaḥīmi

56:95

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلۡیَقِینِ ۝٩٥

Linda "iLham" Barto

Truly, this is certain truth.

inna hādhā lahuwa ḥaqqu l-yaqīn

56:96

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٩٦

Glorify the name of your Lord the Magnificent.

fasabbiḥ bi-is'mi rabbika l-ʿaẓīm
