1 Three Classes of Men
56:1 ›
۞ إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ ۝١
Bijan Moeinian
When the inevitable day of doom takes place
idhā waqaʿati l-wāqiʿat
56:2 ›
لَیۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ۝٢
Bijan Moeinian
In which there is no doubt about its happening
laysa liwaqʿatihā kādhibatu
56:3 ›
خَافِضَةࣱ رَّافِعَةٌ ۝٣
Bijan Moeinian
Some people will be lowered and some raised in rank
khāfiḍatun rāfiʿatu
56:4 ›
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجࣰّا ۝٤
Bijan Moeinian
In that day the earth will be shaken up in a most sever manner
idhā rujjati l-arḍu rajja
56:5 ›
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسࣰّا ۝٥
Bijan Moeinian
And the mountains will be reduced.
wabussati l-jibālu bassa
56:6 ›
فَكَانَتۡ هَبَاۤءࣰ مُّنۢبَثࣰّا ۝٦
Bijan Moeinian
to pieces of sands
fakānat habāan munbatha
56:7 ›
وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا ثَلَـٰثَةࣰ ۝٧
Bijan Moeinian
Then people will be ranked into three categories
wakuntum azwājan thalāthata
56:8 ›
فَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَیۡمَنَةِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَیۡمَنَةِ ۝٨
Bijan Moeinian
(A) [The good omen] People of the right hand. How fortunate are the people of the right hand
fa-aṣḥābu l-maymanati mā aṣḥābu l-maymanat
56:9 ›
وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡءَمَةِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡءَمَةِ ۝٩
Bijan Moeinian
(B) And the [misfortunate] people of the left hand. How unfortunate will be the people of the left hand
wa-aṣḥābu l-mashamati mā aṣḥābu l-mashamat
56:10 ›
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ۝١٠
Bijan Moeinian
(C) And the foremost [those who were always in the forefront in their response to God’s call] will be placed in the forefront…
wal-sābiqūna l-sābiqūn
56:11 ›
أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ ۝١١
Bijan Moeinian
They will be those nearest to God
ulāika l-muqarabūn
56:12 ›
فِی جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِیمِ ۝١٢
Bijan Moeinian
They will live in the Gardens of Paradise
fī jannāti l-naʿīm
56:13 ›
ثُلَّةࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٣
Bijan Moeinian
Most of them will be from those who responded to the God’s call earlier
thullatun mina l-awalīn
56:14 ›
وَقَلِیلࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝١٤
Bijan Moeinian
And a few from those who responded to the God’s call later
waqalīlun mina l-ākhirīn
56:15 ›
عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مَّوۡضُونَةࣲ ۝١٥
Bijan Moeinian
They will be reclining on the luxurious furnishings,…
muttakiīna ʿalayhā mutaqābilīn
56:16 ›
مُّتَّكِءِینَ عَلَیۡهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِینَ ۝١٦
Bijan Moeinian
neighboring each other
Muttaki-eena AAalayha mutaqabileena
56:17 ›
یَطُوفُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَ ٰنࣱ مُّخَلَّدُونَ ۝١٧
Bijan Moeinian
They will be properly served by…
yaṭūfu ʿalayhim wil'dānun mukhalladūn
56:18 ›
بِأَكۡوَابࣲ وَأَبَارِیقَ وَكَأۡسࣲ مِّن مَّعِینࣲ ۝١٨
Bijan Moeinian
eternal youths [perhaps those who died young] with nice cups and pitchers filled from…
bi-akwābin wa-abārīqa wakasin min maʿīni
56:19 ›
لَّا یُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا یُنزِفُونَ ۝١٩
Bijan Moeinian
a flowing spring which will neither intoxicate them nor cause them any hang over
lā yuṣaddaʿūna ʿanhā walā yunzifūn
56:20 ›
وَفَـٰكِهَةࣲ مِّمَّا یَتَخَیَّرُونَ ۝٢٠
Bijan Moeinian
And they will present before them every kind of tasty fruit so that they may choose whichever they desire
wafākihatin mimmā yatakhayyarūn
56:21 ›
وَلَحۡمِ طَیۡرࣲ مِّمَّا یَشۡتَهُونَ ۝٢١
Bijan Moeinian
As well as the meat of any bird that they may desire
walaḥmi ṭayrin mimmā yashtahūn
56:22 ›
وَحُورٌ عِینࣱ ۝٢٢
Bijan Moeinian
They will wed beautiful-eyed women…
waḥūrun ʿīnu
56:23 ›
كَأَمۡثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ ۝٢٣
Bijan Moeinian
… as lovely as well-guarded pearls
ka-amthāli l-lu'lu-i l-maknūn
56:24 ›
جَزَاۤءَۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٤
Bijan Moeinian
This is your Lord’s reward for their righteous deeds in their worldly lives
jazāan bimā kānū yaʿmalūn
56:25 ›
لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ فِیهَا لَغۡوࣰا وَلَا تَأۡثِیمًا ۝٢٥
Bijan Moeinian
They will be blessed by lack of profanities and sinful talks [no more lying, backbiting, slander, bragging, mockery, sarcasm, etc: a society of noble civilized people]
lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan walā tathīma
56:26 ›
إِلَّا قِیلࣰا سَلَـٰمࣰا سَلَـٰمࣰا ۝٢٦
Bijan Moeinian
Only soothing, peaceful words would be exchanged among themselves
illā qīlan salāman salāma
56:27 ›
وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡیَمِینِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٢٧
Bijan Moeinian
And the people of the right hand; how fortunate will be the people of the right hand
wa-aṣḥābu l-yamīni mā aṣḥābu l-yamīn
56:28 ›
فِی سِدۡرࣲ مَّخۡضُودࣲ ۝٢٨
Bijan Moeinian
Surrounded by thorn less lote-trees
fī sid'rin makhḍūdi
56:29 ›
وَطَلۡحࣲ مَّنضُودࣲ ۝٢٩
Bijan Moeinian
Amid clustered plantations, fruitful banana trees and flowers piled one above another
waṭalḥin manḍūdi
56:30 ›
وَظِلࣲّ مَّمۡدُودࣲ ۝٣٠
Bijan Moeinian
And extended shade
waẓillin mamdūdi
56:31 ›
وَمَاۤءࣲ مَّسۡكُوبࣲ ۝٣١
Bijan Moeinian
And constantly flowing clean water
wamāin maskūbi
56:32 ›
وَفَـٰكِهَةࣲ كَثِیرَةࣲ ۝٣٢
Bijan Moeinian
And abundant fruits
wafākihatin kathīrati
56:33 ›
لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةࣲ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةࣲ ۝٣٣
Bijan Moeinian
Always in supply and none forbidden
lā maqṭūʿatin walā mamnūʿati
56:34 ›
وَفُرُشࣲ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ ۝٣٤
Bijan Moeinian
And luxurious furnishing
wafurushin marfūʿati
56:35 ›
إِنَّاۤ أَنشَأۡنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَاۤءࣰ ۝٣٥
Bijan Moeinian
I (God) create for the people of the right side…
innā anshanāhunna inshāa
56:36 ›
فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا ۝٣٦
Bijan Moeinian
.. perfect matched…
fajaʿalnāhunna abkāra
56:37 ›
عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابࣰا ۝٣٧
Bijan Moeinian
… loving mates…
li-aṣḥābi l-yamīn
56:38 ›
لِّأَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٣٨
Bijan Moeinian
… who have never been touched before
Li-as-habi alyameeni
2 The Guilty
56:39 ›
ثُلَّةࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٣٩
Bijan Moeinian
The right side people will be those …
thullatun mina l-awalīn
56:40 ›
وَثُلَّةࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٤٠
Bijan Moeinian
… who joined the right path at the beginning and later
wathullatun mina l-ākhirīn
56:41 ›
وَأَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ ۝٤١
Bijan Moeinian
And the people of the left hand; how unfortunate are the people placed on the left hand
wa-aṣḥābu l-shimāli mā aṣḥābu l-shimāl
56:42 ›
فِی سَمُومࣲ وَحَمِیمࣲ ۝٤٢
Bijan Moeinian
In the midst of hot wind and in boiling water
fī samūmin waḥamīmi
56:43 ›
وَظِلࣲّ مِّن یَحۡمُومࣲ ۝٤٣
Bijan Moeinian
In the shade of black smoke
waẓillin min yaḥmūmi
56:44 ›
لَّا بَارِدࣲ وَلَا كَرِیمٍ ۝٤٤
Bijan Moeinian
Neither refreshing nor cool
lā bāridin walā karīmi
56:45 ›
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَبۡلَ ذَ ٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِینَ ۝٤٥
Bijan Moeinian
They were people who used to have an easy and comfortable life before meeting this misfortune
innahum kānū qabla dhālika mut'rafīn
56:46 ›
وَكَانُوا۟ یُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٤٦
Bijan Moeinian
[but instead of being grateful to God,] engaged constantly in great sins
wakānū yuṣirrūna ʿalā l-ḥinthi l-ʿaẓīm
56:47 ›
وَكَانُوا۟ یَقُولُونَ أَىِٕذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝٤٧
Bijan Moeinian
They used to jokingly say: “When we die and turn into dust and bones, will we be raised up again?”
wakānū yaqūlūna a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn
56:48 ›
أَوَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝٤٨
Bijan Moeinian
[Continuing their joke:] “How about our forefathers who died before?”
awaābāunā l-awalūn
56:49 ›
قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ وَٱلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٤٩
Bijan Moeinian
Say (Mohammad) to them:…
qul inna l-awalīna wal-ākhirīn
56:50 ›
لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِیقَـٰتِ یَوۡمࣲ مَّعۡلُومࣲ ۝٥٠
Bijan Moeinian
…. “Surely you and your forefathers all will be gathered together one day, the time of which is already determined by God.”
lamajmūʿūna ilā mīqāti yawmin maʿlūmi
56:51 ›
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَیُّهَا ٱلضَّاۤلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٥١
Bijan Moeinian
“Then you disbelieving deniers.”
thumma innakum ayyuhā l-ḍālūna l-mukadhibūn
56:52 ›
لَءَاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرࣲ مِّن زَقُّومࣲ ۝٥٢
Bijan Moeinian
“you have to eat the bitter fruit of a Hellish tree known as Zaqqum.”
laākilūna min shajarin min zaqqūmi
56:53 ›
فَمَالِءُونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ۝٥٣
Bijan Moeinian
“And fill your bellies with it.”
famāliūna min'hā l-buṭūn
56:54 ›
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَیۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِیمِ ۝٥٤
Bijan Moeinian
“And, on top of it, drink that boiling water…
fashāribūna ʿalayhi mina l-ḥamīm
56:55 ›
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِیمِ ۝٥٥
Bijan Moeinian
… like a thirsty camel.”
fashāribūna shur'ba l-hīm
56:56 ›
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٥٦
Bijan Moeinian
“This is the way that they will be welcomed on the Day of Judgment.”
hādhā nuzuluhum yawma l-dīn
56:57 ›
نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ ۝٥٧
Bijan Moeinian
I (God) have created you; if you would have only believed
naḥnu khalaqnākum falawlā tuṣaddiqūn
56:58 ›
أَفَرَءَیۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ ۝٥٨
Bijan Moeinian
Have you ever thought about the [”insignificant”] semen that you discharge
afara-aytum mā tum'nūn
56:59 ›
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥۤ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقُونَ ۝٥٩
Bijan Moeinian
Is it you who created it [and a child out of it] or the Creator
a-antum takhluqūnahu am naḥnu l-khāliqūn
56:60 ›
نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَیۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِینَ ۝٦٠
Bijan Moeinian
[The same Creator Who created you] has predetermined your death; none can stop the will of God
naḥnu qaddarnā baynakumu l-mawta wamā naḥnu bimasbūqīn
56:61 ›
عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَـٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِی مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦١
Bijan Moeinian
In order to replace you with a new generation and recreate you into a new kind of being that you do not know anything about its characteristics
walaqad ʿalim'tumu l-nashata l-ūlā falawlā tadhakkarūn
56:62 ›
وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٦٢
Bijan Moeinian
You have already witnessed (the miracle of) your own creation; why do not you believe [that God can perform the miracle of recreating you] then
Walaqad AAalimtumu alnnash-ata al-oola falawla tathakkaroona
56:63 ›
أَفَرَءَیۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ ۝٦٣
Bijan Moeinian
Have you ever thought about the seeds that you sow
afara-aytum mā taḥruthūn
56:64 ›
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥۤ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّ ٰرِعُونَ ۝٦٤
Bijan Moeinian
Is it you who [blow out of your spirit to] make them to grow? Is it not the Creator who makes them to grow
a-antum tazraʿūnahu am naḥnu l-zāriʿūn
56:65 ›
لَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمࣰا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ ۝٦٥
Bijan Moeinian
If it is the Creator Who makes the crops to grow, the He may turn them into hay. Then you will cry
law nashāu lajaʿalnāhu ḥuṭāman faẓaltum tafakkahūn
56:66 ›
إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ ۝٦٦
Bijan Moeinian
“We lost.”
innā lamugh'ramūn
56:67 ›
بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ ۝٦٧
Bijan Moeinian
“We are deprived [of God’s blessing].”
bal naḥnu maḥrūmūn
56:68 ›
أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ ٱلَّذِی تَشۡرَبُونَ ۝٦٨
Bijan Moeinian
Have you ever thought about the water that you [take for granted when you] drink
afara-aytumu l-māa alladhī tashrabūn
56:69 ›
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ ۝٦٩
Bijan Moeinian
Who made the water rain down from the sky for you? You or God
a-antum anzaltumūhu mina l-muz'ni am naḥnu l-munzilūn
56:70 ›
لَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ أُجَاجࣰا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٠
Bijan Moeinian
If God had desired, He could have rained down salty water. Why are not you grateful [about the simplest things which are of the most importance for your survival]
law nashāu jaʿalnāhu ujājan falawlā tashkurūn
56:71 ›
أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِی تُورُونَ ۝٧١
Bijan Moeinian
Have you ever thought the fire that you “make”? Who Created its wood [and its initial spark] ?...
afara-aytumu l-nāra allatī tūrūn
56:72 ›
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَاۤ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِءُونَ ۝٧٢
Bijan Moeinian
You or the Creator
a-antum anshatum shajaratahā am naḥnu l-munshiūn
56:73 ›
نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةࣰ وَمَتَـٰعࣰا لِّلۡمُقۡوِینَ ۝٧٣
Bijan Moeinian
God has given you the fire as a mean of thought and as a mean of your advancement [from animal level into a civilized intellectual being]
naḥnu jaʿalnāhā tadhkiratan wamatāʿan lil'muq'wīn
56:74 ›
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٧٤
Bijan Moeinian
[After given these intellectually stimulating example, it is time that you] Glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme
fasabbiḥ bi-is'mi rabbika l-ʿaẓīm
3 Judgment is Inevitable
56:75 ›
۞ فَلَاۤ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَ ٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٧٥
Bijan Moeinian
No disbelievers; I (God) swear by the moment that the star explodes [and turns into a Nova]
falā uq'simu bimawāqiʿi l-nujūm
56:76 ›
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمࣱ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِیمٌ ۝٧٦
Bijan Moeinian
And this is a tremendous oath, if you knew what I mean
wa-innahu laqasamun law taʿlamūna ʿaẓīmu
56:77 ›
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانࣱ كَرِیمࣱ ۝٧٧
Bijan Moeinian
That this is the glorious Qur’an
innahu laqur'ānun karīmu
56:78 ›
فِی كِتَـٰبࣲ مَّكۡنُونࣲ ۝٧٨
Bijan Moeinian
In a book well guarded by God
fī kitābin maknūni
56:79 ›
لَّا یَمَسُّهُۥۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ ۝٧٩
Bijan Moeinian
Only purified ones may touch (grasp) it except the purified ones
lā yamassuhu illā l-muṭaharūn
56:80 ›
تَنزِیلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٠
Bijan Moeinian
Sent down by the Lord of the worlds
tanzīlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn
56:81 ›
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِیثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ ۝٨١
Bijan Moeinian
[After such a solemn oath] Do you regard it, then, as unworthy of serious attention
afabihādhā l-ḥadīthi antum mud'hinūn
56:82 ›
وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٨٢
Bijan Moeinian
Do you deny this truth of utmost importance simply because it may not be good for your business [that you have to close your idol worshipping temples, gambling casinos, sex shops, liquor stores, drug business, etc.]
watajʿalūna riz'qakum annakum tukadhibūn
56:83 ›
فَلَوۡلَاۤ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ ۝٨٣
Bijan Moeinian
When [the moment of death arrive and] the soul reaches the throat
falawlā idhā balaghati l-ḥul'qūm
56:84 ›
وَأَنتُمۡ حِینَىِٕذࣲ تَنظُرُونَ ۝٨٤
Bijan Moeinian
And you see that the person is dying
wa-antum ḥīna-idhin tanẓurūn
56:85 ›
وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٨٥
Bijan Moeinian
I am the closest to the dying person but you can not see
wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walākin lā tub'ṣirūn
56:86 ›
فَلَوۡلَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَیۡرَ مَدِینِینَ ۝٨٦
Bijan Moeinian
If [as you claim] you are under no authority and you are truthful about…
falawlā in kuntum ghayra madīnīn
56:87 ›
تَرۡجِعُونَهَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٨٧
Bijan Moeinian
… your claim, then go ahead and restore the soul
tarjiʿūnahā in kuntum ṣādiqīn
56:88 ›
فَأَمَّاۤ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِینَ ۝٨٨
Bijan Moeinian
If this dying person has [chosen the right path] been close to me, then he will be welcomed with joy,…
fa-ammā in kāna mina l-muqarabīn
56:89 ›
فَرَوۡحࣱ وَرَیۡحَانࣱ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِیمࣲ ۝٨٩
Bijan Moeinian
… peace and flowers entering to the Gardens of Paradise
farawḥun warayḥānun wajannatu naʿīmi
56:90 ›
وَأَمَّاۤ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ ۝٩٠
Bijan Moeinian
If he is a part of the people of the right hand, he will be greeted with “peace be with you” by the
wa-ammā in kāna min aṣḥābi l-yamīn
56:91 ›

inna hādhā lahuwa ḥaqqu l-yaqīn
